Antons comments are inexcusable. I'm early 40s and know full damn well how offensive that word is. Knew it in the 90s, know it now. It was widely used in the 80s and 90s for aggressive racism. People from India and Pakistan suffered awful racism during that period (that word, dog shit through door etc). People seem to have forgotten that.

Absolutely. For the life of me I have NEVER understood how he got away with it.

Thanks for posting the article, I couldn’t access it.
I don’t really understand how the verdict is due this week. I thought the hiring of solicitors meant it was going to court. Is it just down to whether the BBC clear him of bullying? And if they do, does that mean he could return to Strictly?
Questions not just directed at you OP :)

It wouldn't go to court unless he has committed a crime, would it?
It's a civil case at the moment, I think, so it won't unless the police get involved and he is charged with something.

I don't know what the accuser wants to be the outcome....money, an apology? Is Amanda pushing to get him charged with an illegal offence? Assault, etc?
I don't know.

For what it's worth, I thought her dancing was really good.
I thought she would get to the final.

I didnt warm to her, though. Thought she was big headed and wouldn't like being told what to do.
I am not defending Giovanni because I never warmed to him either.
I felt a bit sorry for him when Len gave him a telling off during one week's show because I thought Len was a bit OTT nasty, but now all this has come out, maybe Len knew he was a wrong 'un.

I had thought this was a personality clash, but my jury is out regarding Amanda and Giovanni.

It'll all come out in t'wash.

But I want to hear his side of the story so I can make up my mind.
I wish he'd turned up to the ITT interview so we could see him and hear what he said for ourselves.

Also, re Giovanni, even if he is cleared, he wouldn't want to return, would he???
Even if he wanted to return, I don't think he could. This whole thing has gone too far and it all started with a complaint about him.

Me preparing for the day ahead on the Strictly Tattle thread.

Don't confuse social media outrage and actual outrage.

They get millions of viewers, the vast majority of whom are not on internet forums or face book. They will just see Daily Mail articles and if they see a headline saying Gio has been cleared of any wrongdoing or has been given words of advice re his conduct then they won't think twice about him appearing on the show again.

Amanda’s complaint has been acted on, Gio lost his job on Strictly and no doubt other work too.
Even if Gio is cleared by the BBC, plenty of people will still say he’s guilty of everything Amanda has accused him of.
In the absence of actual evidence (video footage, independent witnesses) this case comes down to he said/she said.
I don‘t agree that being a woman means you are always telling the truth, nor do I believe that Amanda has completely invented her grievances.
I‘m unsure where she is planning to go with this next, I can only assume she is going to sue the BBC for lack of duty to care?

I felt sick reading that I have never doubted what happened but reading the details like following Zara screaming at her so bad she would hide in the bathroom and cry behind curtains is just beyond losing his temper because he's desperate to win' that's the behaviour of an abuser. Also with comments like 'have you put on weight' when she's wearing skin tight costumes is so nasty and manipulative.
And he wonders why she couldn't improve her dance skills when she was likely in survival mode.

See, this is the thing. When news broke about Graz everyone was shocked because he does adorable very well.

I thought at first he'd lost his temper and had a go at her, which would have been bad enough but this seems to have been a sustained system of abuse that continued throughout her time on Strictly only stopping when he knew other people were about.

He fooled everyone. No one would believe Zara if she'd told them what he was really like.

Oh does it fuck. It wasn’t a bloody faux pas, it was out and out racism.

Racism for an event that happened 15 years ago.

You deal with racism by going to the police - not by going to a lawyer looking for a payout.

And this is my issue with all of this stuff. By the sounds of the graz/zara incidents - they should have been reported to the police. Not by shoving him out the door and giving Zara sympathetic looks.

If Amanda really feels she's been badly treated, go to the police and report it.

But honestly, what are the police going to about an a*****e who's decided he'd not going put in any effort cos he's looked around and realised the show is rigged so that certain contestants are better than you and get a better edit snd they'll win, so there's no point in him or you putting in any real effort.

And does anybody else think its a bit mental that Graz has went nuts with Zara cos he felt he needed to keep up with Layton-type standards.

But Gio has chucked it and wasn't putting in any effort cos he knew that Amanda couldn't keep up with Layton type standards

This whole situation is nuts. And it does go back to BBCs handling of the show.

And all in its 20th Anniversary!!!!

Maybe Amanda won’t do anything next. If she did raise the complaint so that it won’t happen to anyone else, then she has hopefully succeeded and there will be a huge culture shift and an actual duty of care. The BBC do though as well as holding the pros to account, also need to hold those at the top accountable, which at the moment appears to not have happened.

exactly. i said it before, but my mother is a HUGE strictly fan…. for the time that strictly is on 🤣 the pros just cease to exist for her between series (apart from johannes, who she loves) and i imagine a large percentage of their viewership is the same. she isn’t really online, doesn’t post in any forums etc.

she DID notice the graz story but i think that’s purely because the bbc themselves led with it. most of the gio stuff has passed her by, as will a lot of the rest. if gio did come back, a very large majority of their viewers would just go “oh there he is” and settle down for saturday night.

Nice bit of victim blaming 👍

Is it monetary compensation she wants?
To prove a point?
To get him cancelled?

I have no clue.

I thought Amanda was doing really well in the show up until she pulled out, so it does seem a little strange that he would say that.
I never bought into the FR nice guy act though, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was being snarky and dismissive towards her.

There is still a hard core of Beryls insisting “that dancing is tough and they should not sign up unless they are willing to put the work in”. However, the tide does seem to have turned and more of these comments are being challenged in most of the channels I have seen online.
Although before the paywall kicks in the daily fail it says he’s on the verge of being cleared
