That’s awful poor Zara. There’s absolutely no excuse for that.
This is awful. Physically assaulting a partner on a light-hearted family show that you know you don’t win is appalling behaviour but Zara obviously didn’t feel she could tell anyone about it and that makes it even worse.

It’s like some Pros aren’t able to accept they won’t win and just be ok with being a part of it. I get it’s a competitive industry but Strictly is not the World Championships

The thing is it depends who witnessed it. I said earlier how if it was a runner, a camera assistant etc essentially someone “low down” on the strictly ladder it could be really hard to have the guts to come forward and make an accusation against one of the professionals especially one who was well liked and well in with the producers. It doesn’t make it right but the fear of not being believed/being dragged into a dispute or losing their jobs would have been very real
I completely agree and could anyone even trust the BBC to take appropriate action on something so serious?!

The only other pro that hung around with Graz and Zara all the time was Kai. He seemed very taken with her, and vice versa. Remember he did the jump scare with Graz in her dressing room? Wonder how he is feeling now? Presume he wouldn’t be happy if he knew about the abuse, as although he’s a bit of a taskmaster he’s never been accused of the things Graz has. He does have a temper though, as I’m sure most do.

For some reason the alleged report that he also spat on her makes it even worse.

poor zara :( i keep thinking about how genuinely excited she was to do the show, and how proud her grandparents were - how awful that she obviously didn’t feel she could question/report it, and that now she’s still going to take the brunt of the nasty comments.

as others have said way more eloquently than me, where in the world were the producers when this was going on. a contestant on your show was physically assaulted and nothing got done about it for months. where is the safe guarding?

the bbc will never do it but skipping this year and fully reviewing the way the whole show is run would be a good idea.

Apologies if this has been answered but to read DM articles behind a pay wall, click on the aA at the top left (that’s where mine is) when viewing on the DM website (rather than the app) and select ‘show reader’. It then gives it in a word-type document with no ads

A junior production member witnessed a Graz incident but was too scared to report it until the Gio investigation.
Sadly this happens in so many workplaces. A junior production member is unlikely to risk their career on the basis that they witnessed some behaviour they deemed to be abusive, with no knowledge of any video evidence. If the producers hadn’t opened up this wider investigation and given people a space to speak freely this likely would’ve never come out. It’s extremely brave of them and Zara to come forward and just shows that so many shows probably need investigations like this.

Screenshot from an earlier tattle thread last year. I get people saying victims stay silent but why go to these lengths to show how close they were?

I wonder if the situation was more like this if Zara did not see or realise his behavior was off.....

If he was getting frustrated with how practice was going maybe he kicked a chair, punched a wall or was shouting and swearing, spat at the floor. All nasty behavior that Zara or anyone should not be subjected to, but not directly aimed at her. If this was the case it's still classed as abusive behavior but maybe would not register to some one to report. It's only now footage is revised that it's come out?

With this and the Gio thing bringing about discussion over the culture of the show and training conditions being too strict, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the contestants for this year are now really anxious about who they’re gonna get paired with and how they’ll be treated.

Also, if everybody’s training footage is getting reviewed, it’d be interesting to know if any of the others have been given warnings or been asked to adjust their methods. They’ll want to be extra careful now.

I just don’t understand the levels of competitiveness the pros reportedly have. This isn’t the world championships with fellow professionals. This is a family friendly TV show with (usually) complete amateurs and is about them LEARNING to dance.

I really don’t get it 🤷🏼‍♀️
They need the publicity of Strictly to lengthen their careers. Look at all the spin off tours, media opportunities, freebies, book deals most of them get now. In some cases the pros are just as well known as the celebs, it has become a golden goose for them.
