One Day - Netflix Series

I think a lot of people would mind Emma‘s character less, if she looked like Daisy Edgar-Jones.

But I think it’s great that they were mismatched! As an earlier post said, it’s nice to not see a stereotypical beauty cast in the main role. And to me, I thought Dex really loved her. You could tell Emma daren’t believe he would be interested in her (I’ve been in this position 😐) and maybe it was her intellect he was attracted to, as she wasn’t ’his league’. To me that’s part of the magic of the story and I felt the chemistry was there; in their eye contact and even their awkwardness. And it’s fab that’s she’s Asian. Like Bridgerton, it’s great that brown people are being cast in starring roles.

The actress that plays Sylvie on the other hand…. seems to have the same expression in everything I’ve seen her in!

Loved the soundtrack - I’m a little younger than them but the music gave me all the feels 🥰and I noticed the Storm watch too! I could watch it all again x

Omg. I am SICK with nostalgia! The music, the clothes…
I am a hard hearted cynic but I bawled. I just loved this series so much.
Dex was such a ride… he kept reminding me of young Damon Albarn and I cried again at my lost youth. I’m going to take to my bed for a day now and think ‘what if?’
Waaah😭😭😭

Yes to Damon, in the later episodes😍 there was a side profile where I thought exactly this!

Having first read the book, I love the character of Emma.
For me, it's not about the looks, it's that the actress isn't good in this role. She doesn't capture the essence of who she is written as.

Tbh in hindsight I think Emma was just badly written. At least at the very first time they meet she’s supposed to be loud and opinionated, this Emma is a wilting flower. I do think she comes into herself more as they get older and definitely in Paris onwards. But it doesn’t feel like book Em.

To me, the actress portrays Em as someone that swings between two states; someone with a bad smell under their nose and someone with a really bad smell under their nose.

I didnt think there was chemistry until Paris and I think at that point for me Ambika‘s acting was brilliant and she became the Emma who you could see who Dex loved. The script and direction maybe didn’t help her, a permanent sucked lemon face doesn’t show defence and insecurity. But after they got together and her character relaxed and knew she was his equal she was lovely and her wit was funny rather than bitter

I also am as someone else here has said confused at ending, did that kiss at Edinburgh really happen cos if it did I can’t see how they would have separated. The Christmas thing if she had been awake would they have got together. That was a sliding doors moment so was the kiss him dreaming it might have been 😔

Yes, it was Dex reminiscing on what could have been...........

I'm going to start it again tonight. I think I'm on episode 5.

For me, if they'd have given Emma a pile of curly hair, a glint in her eye and a better sense of humour it would have helped. You could see how she would have attracted attention in the first place and held it with her wit and ability to take the piss out of Dex. As it is, she just seems like a teenager.

Just finished this series and serious nostalgia from the 90s with the music. I haven’t read the book or seen the film. I expected a happy ending and it’s just so sad. I don’t know what people are talking about the actress not being attractive I think she’s naturally gorgeous
