One Day - Netflix Series

I got strong Damon Albarn vibes tbh

I really wish I got what others have from it. I really wish I could feel the palpable tension. I’ve started rewatching Normal People. Now that’s tension and intensity from the off

I agree with you. It didn't move me nor did I feel the tension or chemistry. It did make me feel nostalgic though even though I'm a bit younger than them. I'm going to try Normal People. Where is everyone watching it?

Yeah, it’s on iplayer. There is a normal people thread and I’m conscious not to derail this one with chatting about it but I guess there’s similarities between the storyline but vastly different. Maybe this is the difference between men writing it compared to a woman. Women (usually) get the emotional intensity far more than men.

Where’s the one day thread please?

I've finished it. I changed my mind on the music, it got a lot better.

I still think they miscast. Having seen a clip of the film and talked to friends who've read the book I think they needed a less hot Dex and a hotter Em to be blunt. She didn't have enough punch to be believable in attracting the attention of a shallow young posh guy and got more mousy as the years went on so her sparky personality and wit come didn't across either.

Up until Paris he just treated her like tit and she moaned at him. I get that we see one day but why on earth did they stay in touch?

I know the writer didn't write Rachel's death in Cold Feet but helped out with writing the series more generally but it really felt like a copy of that to me - 'Will they won't they' couple get together and she's killed on her way to view a house. I was quite invested in it all nevertheless so I guess I see it all as a missed opportunity. I love stories like this and it just seemed like it could have been brilliant.

I HATED the book Normal People so much.
And said I'd never watch the series but it was lockdown and I was bored 😂
Anyway I thought it was really good. So much better than the book.
The character of Marianne was better. In the book she was irritatingly 'not like all the other girls but strangely attractive to all the boys'. Especially when she got really thin

I watched a couple more episodes of One Day last night - inc the Greek holiday. I think the problem with Emma isn't her attractiveness but she is so bloody mardy I don't get why Dex could be bothered with her. So bloody judgy all the time.

I sat reading reviews during one of the earlier episodes trying to figure out if it was worth persevering with because Emma done my head in at the start, all northern sarc/mardy, but it was.

Everything changed when the power dynamic shifted and funnily Emma seemed softer. She reminded me of a girl I worked with, pretty but had an aura about her that made her enigmatic.

I’ll be listening to the official playlist on Spotify this weekend 🎶 the music was fantastic.

I finished this last night and I was bawling!! I found it so sad. Thought they had great chemistry the entire time and thought Emma was brilliant, her character was just sarcastic and thought it came across really well. Some episodes in the middle bored me and I hated dexter for like 2 episodes but my heart was shattered for him at the end. Really loved the two of them together and it did give normal peiole vibes. However normal people I found to be quite depressing the entire show, where this did have a lot of happy moments also and was just more really sad at the end whereas normal people was a bit happier at the end
