One Day - Netflix Series

I nearly switched off when I saw them go on holiday as I was thinking ‘they aren’t even friends?! They have nothing in common?! What is going on?!’. Glad I persevered. As others have said, I enjoyed it from Paris onwards chemistry wise. Felt very sorry for Dex, his life was so tough and he really did deserve a happy ending. I ugly cried for about 10 minutes after the sliding doors moment.

Just finished this series and serious nostalgia from the 90s with the music. I haven’t read the book or seen the film. I expected a happy ending and it’s just so sad. I don’t know what people are talking about the actress not being attractive I think she’s naturally gorgeous
I also think she’s gorgeous. A striking face! But I don’t think those actors had *the* chemistry needed for this role. It fell flat for me. I did enjoy it, but it wasn’t 100%.

This is actually something I dislike about the story. We ARE supposed to feel sorry Dex and nothing else really. He has so many sad things happen to him that we can’t really criticize him for, say, heavily drinking while alone with his infant daughter, or insulting Emma several times. We have no problem criticizing Emma for the things she says and does, because she’s a typical Written By A Man- woman. 14 episodes and we don’t get to see anyone from her family. Nothing ever explained why she was the way she was in the beginning. The only reason we get is that she had a crush on Dex for a long time.

That's another grower, I hated the first few episodes but loved it I was so obsessed with it in lock down. Stick with it
Same. First couple of episodes I thought meh but then I was hooked. I was so obsessed! I could relate to Marianne and Connell in so many ways. I’ve never been struck by something as much as I was Normal People. It invaded my thoughts, it was all consuming for me. I hoped One Day was going to be the same but nope. I just didn’t get their relationship dynamic, feel any chemistry at all. I think some of it maybe is that we know nothing about Emma. I want to know people, understand why they think, feel and act the way they do. Absolutely nothing to do with her looks or the fact she is played by a brown person as someone previously suggested. I think the actress is beautiful but the script wasn’t.

I’ve just watched the episode with their ‘friendship breakup’, which in the book is such a pinnacle point, and has so much emotional depth… and in the episode?! Nothing, I didn’t feel anything. Bloody hell, they even missed out THE line from Emma!! ‘I love you so so much Dexter, I just don’t like you anymore…’
To be fair to the film; Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess smash that scene.
I see people raving about Leo’s performance, but so far, I still prefer Jim Sturgess as Dexter. I’m really disappointed in this episode.

Is there a lot of sex scenes in it? My 14 year old daughter has shown interest in watching but I can’t find any good info on how much sex and how graphic they might be.

Took a while to get into it, I think in part because the unconventional 'same day each year' structure meant that the huge leaps in their relationship in the first few episodes took place entirely offscreen. Whereas a typical TV show might pick the most important or dramatic 14 days of the relationship, this showed the same calendar date each time; some of those therefore being more obscure in their relevance.

I’d say it’s fine for that she group. I can think of maybe 4 sexual scenes across the entire 14 eps; nothing mega full on and they don’t last long.

I started watching yesterday and am on episode three (I think?).
I loved the book and read it ages ago. Haven't seen the film.
I found the first episode really dragged and struggled to understand their attraction to each other tbh. All that faffing around in her bedroom with her running off to the toilet to stare in the mirror.
I will persist though.
I always pictured Dexter as a sort of Spencer Matthews type 😂
The actress who plays his mother is stunning.

The first episode KILLED me! The tension between them is unbearable!

However comparing Dex to Spencer Matthews has just sort of killed the illusion for me! 😂

i thought their chemistry was palpable, and really came through towards the last 4 episodes 💔

I’ve watched a couple of interviews with them both and they seem like really good friends, they still have the chemistry off screen too.
