Their chocolate & sweets used to be made by Thorntons (who also did the tablet) and they've since stopped after being taken over also.... I'd suspect they don't supply M&S anymore either which would explain why
I heard this thing about M&S being supplied by Thorntons ages ago which is odd because I thought M&S chocolates were decent quality but never rated Thorntons. Wonder if they gave M&S their best work

and all these stores brands that are produced by name brands what do they do in the factories?production to make them worse?I say this as someone who had a Kelloggs Nutrigrain bar the other day, bought some from Lidl in the same flavour variety suspecting made by same and they are smaller, lower quality and the grain is different. Do they have 2 production lines - one for their own brand and one with lower quality ingredients etc? or stuff like lads this lot of soup n beans for Lidl add more water/liquid

Yes they do. Look at it like a clothing factory, they don't churn out the same style all day everyday. They'll run a line then switch to a different product line. This is why the argument oh but they use the same factory is a false flag.
M&S outsource their manufacturing but retain quality control. They will have different ingredients and processes to other brands

There is a chocolate factory near my relatives that when they change the line they drain the last of the chocolate and sell it in 5kg slabs. It's really tasty!

Regarding the made in same factory thing, I noticed a good while back that M&S started using cardboard to pack all of its coated chicken ranges. Then months later sainsburys and Waitrose started using the same packaging for theirs. (Maybe Tesco and Asda too but I don’t go in them as they aren’t near me. Do we think all the fried chicken etc is the same stuff?

It won't be the same stuff, it'll be as above.

Not food, but I bought M&S's Soft Iris fragrance recently and I am OBSESSED with it! I wish it wasn't an eau de toilette though, so it lasted longer. I'm now hunting through Fragrantica to try and find a similar perfume with better longevity 😅

Ooh sounds lovely! I remember reading about it being a dupe so I googled and….

Ty for this! Fragrantica suggested both the Coco Mademoiselle and Miss Dior, so I might go down to Boots later to see if they have them in stock so I can have a spritz.

Hopefully I'll like one of them because it will make Mr Duck's Christmas shopping list easier to write 🤣

I used to work in a cheese factory, there are different lines for different products of different qualities. McDonald’s cheese and all the retailers (Tesco Asda M&S etc) along with local cheese were all made in the same factory, but used different ingredients and quality of ingredients
Co-Op salt and vinegar crisps had tyralls farm as an address at one point so I assume they are tyralls crisps with a different flavouring mix, they also have an exclusive flavour with them to.
