I’m simply watching the show cause I think the women in it are gorgeous, same reason I watched GoT, Cersei is still my fictional wife.

I don’t understand the hype around Daemon though, but maybe because I find Matt Smith to be terribly ugly, there’s a reason why he was cast as Prince Philip and as a Targaryen. Inbred.

Ep 5 - yes! Sad that it was the younger cast’s last episode but what a way to end it. Alicent and her dress signifying the growing divide between the Blacks (Targaryens) and the Greens (Hightowers). Larys “Clubfoot” Strong stirring the pot. Ser Criston taking Rhaenyra’s rejection…well. The King getting sicker and Daemon being well, Daemon. 😬

Really looking forward to the time jump next week and seeing where the characters are at - and how well Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy portray the older Alicent and Rhaenyra.

Still finding him really sexy as Daemon 🤣🤣😩 especially when he's speaking high valaryian. I feel so sorry for Viserys everything is turning to tit. Ser criston is a jealous hole. Rhaenyra admitted it was a marriage of convenience said they could still see eachother. He made a vow of chastity, he will never be allowed to marry or leave anyway. I knew as soon as they had a wedding party a murder would happen GOT can't have a peaceful wedding 🤣😩.

Matt Smith isn't conventionally attractive but I really love his voice and he's a great actor. He has something about him which draws you in, a star quality. He's still my absolute favourite in this series. Loved it when he killed his wife 😅

Was Ser Cristan rather homophobic there?
It was unexpected that he was suddenly the aggressor at the wedding.

I also love Matt Smith. He’s not the sexiest guy around, but there’s definitely something about him. 😂

I believe it was because Joffrey was mildly threatening blackmail to protect Laenor (I know your secret, you know mine). Criston was already enraged because of Rhaenyra’s rejection of his proposal to run away and get married and now having to stand and watch the celebration of her marriage to someone else. I think it’s more about upholding his own honour (he only wanted to go off and marry Rhaenyra because she had taken his chastity and he felt it was the right thing to do). He likely was homophobic too though. In Game of Thrones, Joffrey Baratheon refers to the rumours of Renly Baratheon’s homosexuality as “deviant” and wants to make it punishable by death. I imagine a lot of people would’ve felt the same.

Yeah I also don't understand what made ser Criston act this way. Maybe that the guy knew his secret?

Laenor's lover, Joffrey, correctly inferred that Criston was (one of) Rhaenyra's paramour(s). The guy was happy with this arrangement, probably because he and Laenor could never have had a publicly accepted relationship anyway, and fatally assumed that Criston would also be happy with it. I think basically, 1) Criston was already in a bit of a state because of guilt over breaking his oath 2) he was probably anxious about Alicent telling the King about his affair with Rhaenyra and consequently being tortured and executed (he begged Alicent not to geld him and just execute him quickly - Alicent didn't outright confirm she wouldn't execute him) 3) he is also in a state because he did all this to basically get sideman privileges, which isn't what he wants at all. having someone basically know and celebrate it like it's a good thing enraged him and sent him into full murderous bastard mode

It's also possible he is homophobic, given the world seems homophobic, but can't say for sure - if he is, he would've perceived Joffrey's comment as an even bigger slight

I think it echoes GOT in that the inciting incident to the conflict was inappropriate 'coupling' being used to destabilise centres of power (Cersei and Jaime, Joffrey Baratheon's illegitimacy, and Littlefinger pulling the strings) and cause civil war. Combined with the cultural resistance to having a woman in as the ruling monarch, Daemon has essentially kicked this into action by getting off with Rhaenyra and allowing that to get back to Otto and Viserys. He's taking a big risk here as he's planted the seeds for everyone to turn against the Targaryens - he got rid of Otto but in doing so, he's set Alicent against the Targaryens, and Alicent has children with a claim to the throne. Him killing his wife to free up space for a Targaryen wife demonstrates his confidence that nobody stands a chance against him - he doesn't give a duck that the Royces/the Vale have substantial reason to turn on him and is certain he'll get Runestone. Powerful people saw and seemingly believed the Royce cousin's accusation of Daemon so they could turn on him as well - esp. the new hand because his son has already expressed allegiance with Alicent. Criston is now gonna side with Alicent because she's shown him mercy and compassion, but the only reason this situation happened to begin with is that she brought him in to question him about Daemon and Rhaenyra. Daemon has basically kicked off a war because he feels disenfranchised and is power-hungry :/

Sidenote RIP short-lived queen Rhea Royce - loved it when she told Daemon to go duck the sheep if they're so preferable hahaha

My other half was watching he normally doesn't like anything GOT related but he said Ser Criston had the perfect set up. No need to be a monk and he gets to shag a rich woman with no strings attached and shes married to a gay man so not much competition it would be most men's dream 🤣🤣🤣.. I think she has much more chemistry with her uncle though I swoon when they speak high valaryian to each other. I really think Daemon murdered his wife so he might have a chance with Rhaenyra 🤣🤣😩

My husband said the exact same thing. He was like “what’s his problem?” 😂

Daemon definitely did this. He wants Rhaenyra because he wants to further their blood line and have a chance at the throne.

It was quite sad that Lady Rhea was not at all what Daemon had described - she just had the full measure of him. I wish we’d seen more of her character.

Yeah!! She was gorgeous too. I think it says a lot about his character and intentions tbh. He is clearly good at wooing women and throwing his power around so it must have stung his ego that Rhea couldn't fucked with it (literally). I'm not sure what I make of the directors' comments but they said that it bugged Daemon that he didn't have all the power in the situation with Rhaenyra, and with Rhea he seemingly had no power over her at all. he would've hated it

Also disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Rhea. She reminded me a bit of Arya Stark and Yara Greyjoy.

Think that Alicent will use Ser Criston’s confession to her advantage later. Loved her entrance in the green dress. (Also liked Rhaenyra’s wedding hair). Looking forward to seeing the new Alicent and Rhaenyra actors, but will miss Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as young Rhaenyra and Alicent.

Also looking forward to seeing what Larys gets up to.
