Womanhood and injustices against women #2

I was just going to make a similar response!

And how many of these gallant women, who cared for the wounded and the sick often under shellfire, who were bombed along with the men when they were working in the hospitals , pulling 12/14/16/ hour shifts as part of their regular duties, and longer if they were needed - how many of these "wenches in trenches" have their names on the wall of the heroes? NONE.

It is only comparatively recently that a memorial bench were built in their honour in the Lochnagar Crater - it had to be placed there because no births town seemed to want it.

Gisele Pelicot's husband found guilty.
What a strong woman.

Waiting for 51 verdicts for the rapists....all guilty so far.
I do hope that when this is all over (and hopefully all of these abusing scum get what is coming to them), Giselle continues to be supported. There is going to be a huge "let-down" in many ways. She will have been living on adrenaline and determination for so long, and then suddenly this won't be needed and she may feel a terrible slump in her mood. She may need support and care now more than ever.

Or perhaps there will just be a huge feeling of relief that it is over - or a combination of the two. Maybe she will become a crusader for women - she'll certainly never be forgotten for her role in bringing these men to justice and, from what I have seen, revealing all of the flaws in French rape law.

Whatever she needs - I hope she gets it.

You are a wonderful woman, Gisele - I wish you every joy in life in the future.

I quite agree. This article touches upon the trauma the family endure but I can only imagine what she is still going through.

Gisèle Pelicot has spoken briefly to reporters outside the courtroom, saying that she respects the court and the decision it made, in her first remarks since the court handed down its verdicts and sentences.

“It is with profound emotion that I am here, the trial was a very difficult ordeal,” she said, reading from a prepared statement.

She said that she was thinking of her three children and her grandchildren. “Because they are the future, it is also for them that I took on this battle.”

She continued: “I’m also thinking of the many victims who are not recognised, whose stories often remain in the shadows. I want you to know that we share the same battle.”

She noted that her thoughts were also with the other families affected by this case and expressed gratitude to the many who had supported her.

She added:

When I opened the doors to this trial on 2 September, I wanted society to be able to take part in this debate. I have never regretted that decision.

I have confidence in our ability to collectively grasp a future in which everyone, women and men alike, can live in harmony, with mutual respect and understanding.”

Too short? Really??

I'm glad Gisele is getting justice but I would hope that because of how many men took part there would be a national or even international conversation about the mentality of men. Because you wouldn't easily find 51 people willing to commit murder or rob a bank, you'd probably have to get people from other countries involved to make up the numbers, but I'm not surprised that 51 men (all from one local area I'm assuming) were willing to rape an unconscious woman.

And they don't even have the 'excuse' of mob mentality because they all decided to do this individually.

It’s higher in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 15-20% according to a very quick google.
The Muslim population in France is estimated at about 10% of the total population, with Muslim men making up roughly 5% of the male population, assuming a 50/50 male-to-female split. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Muslims represent about 15-20% of the population, meaning Muslim men make up approximately 7.5-10% of the male population there, assuming an equal gender split.

Given that this group makes up at most 5% of the population in France but accounts for 35% of the perpetrators in this case, it’s something I can’t help but reflect on.

I don't think it's as simple as cultural attitudes towards women. That doesn't account for the action of the others involved and it's doing a huge disservice to Giselle to focus on a sample of the men. Something messed up is going on if a diverse group of men from one area can do this and it can't be explained by religion or ethnicity. There is some kind of mental sickness in men that so many of them do this or defend those who do

I had a look on the bbc website at the names of those disgusting men. Out of the 51 people, 18 names are associated with Muslim or Arab origin. 35%. I'll leave that there for you all to ponder.

So then, 65% are of French and possibly Christian origin. Whatever you're trying to say about Arabs or Muslims could be said for others. I mean, the Church of England has been part of a child sex abuse cover up for how long? And not by people who just practice the religion but people who are meant to be an example.

I think that suggests sexual deviance in men crosses religion and nationality.

I’m not trying to make any specific statement, it’s just something I noticed. The math doesn’t lie, and I’ll leave it up to others to form their own conclusions. I agree with you that sexual deviance in men crosses all religions and nationalities—there’s no disputing that.

In my personal view, these men were already sickos for seeking out sexual experiences where women were role-playing as unconscious. Once they arrived and saw the lady was clearly unconscious (and some even returned), they became opportunistic rapists, thinking the chances of being caught were low. The question I’m left wondering is: How many men would engage in such acts if they were certain they could get away with it?

Tbh, the fact it can't be narrowed down to a certain type of man is what makes this so shocking and scary.
