This elderly lady has been representing the Queen and the RF for over 60 years, if she hasn’t learnt by now that asking someone ‘no, where are you really from’ is a bit of a conversation stopper then it’s a bad job.
Also, its long past the days when she could just turn up to things, say what she liked and swan off, expecting everyone to smile politely. She should have done a bit of research into the invited guests and asked about their work, not demand to be told where their ancestors were from. If she's so elderly she can't be trusted not to be respectful of guests then she should have retired. Other guests heard the conversation, including a Tory MP and said it was unacceptable.

It sounds like the lady in waiting maybe due to her age was a little confused by ever changing language around heritage/colour. Only in the last few months has it gone from bame to? Can't remember what the current word is.
Personally if feel bad if I had been the cause of making someone unemployed after such a long career with instant dismissal.
I'm white but don't always look it with a deep tan in the summer and have been asked more than once by white people where I'm from!
Instant cancel culture now instead of examining the cause of situations 🤷‍♂️
I wouldn't be in favour of cancelling someone for a mistake around language either but if the conversation happened as described in the tweet above then she deserved it in my opinion.
Even if you leave race out of it, it's rude to keep asking someone the same question over and over. Surely she'd picked up that Ngozi had an issue with her questions and she should have stopped out of politeness and good manners even if she didn't think herself that she was being racist.

Interesting how quick this was dealt with by BP. Can't help but think that wouldn't have been the case if we still had the Queen. I loved her but it was clear that in many ways she hadn't even tried to move with the times. Interesting that under Charles within hours it was dealt with, she was gone, a statement issued and the lady invited to discuss it with them. This is the sort of thing I can imagine HMQ sweeping under the carpet. I do think Charles needs to totally overhaul the inner royal circle...maybe he will maybe he wont.

Something to ponder: if prince Charles or Andrew had fallen in love with a black or brown daughter of Commonwealth president or diplomat, how would royal household and british media handle that? :sneaky:  :giggle: :devilish:

I don't believe the conversation was racist. I believe it was insensitive of Lady Hussey to press the subject if Ngozi Fulani obviously didn't want to discuss it. Perhaps a quiet word could have been had about respecting boundaries. I do think Lady Hussey being forced to resign is wrong. She has not said anything that is defined in law as racist. She shouldn't have pried but it sounds as though she was trying to engage in conversation.

The conversation was corroborated by others who were there. She hasn't used made it up to cause trouble.
No her actual tweets

I tend to find harranging someone doesn’t lead to an engaged conversation.

Even if she had issues with racism in the rf from her rweets, the conversation shocked other people present I meant. So she wasn't blowing up a minor incident. I don't understand how people find it so hard to elueve that people brought up to believe they are superior by birth could possibly think they are superior!

Why would
I have to agree, something seems a bit off by that she called the RF 'racist' because non-working Royals were not able to be on the balcony, and calling Charles and Camilla being domestically violent towards Meghan (based on what, an Oprah interview rather than any insight into their personal lives?). This event has completely erased the work Camilla has done in regards to DV. Why would you attend the function hosted by a woman who apparently was racist and violent towards her step daughter in law?

I think the actions of the Lady in Waiting in regards to moving her hair out of the way overstepped a line, but the woman calling out 'racism' doesn't seem to be doing so in good faith, given the past accusations against the RF. On reflection, the language used by the Lady is clumsy and old fashioned, but it appears that she wanted to ask about this woman's heritage and how this translated into setting up a charity for specific racial groups of people.
I would’ve politely declined the invitation if I was her ,it’s clear she had issues of how the royals treat POC I would have to be true to myself regardless of the charity.

So, what are you saying … because she has tweeted in support of Meghan in the past it means a conversation, over heard and corroborated by others, didn’t take place or that she went to the Palace looking to bring down anyone who spoke to her?
No I’m not saying that at all I’m saying I wouldn’t be in the same room as people I find abhorrent.

Does make you wonder how intelligent these people are when they do and say things which are offensive, despite knowing times have changed and it's no longer acceptable. In this case it does seem deliberate, but why do that?

She must have known it would overshadow the work done by Camilla and everyone involved, and again bring more negativity to the royal family. It's mind boggling, it really is.

They are living in their champagne bubble. If you skim through Valentine Low's book ''Courtiers'' you will notice how almost everyone among personal and private secretaries were white, military or Etonian-type guys.

Specialist support for African & Caribbean heritage women affected by abuse

Perhaps Lady Hussey researched their Twitter, which HIGHLIGHTS the African and Caribbean links the charity has. The charity openly mentions it on their Twitter.

Absolutely. I don't agree with any of Ngozi's tweets above but that doesn't take away from what Susan Hussey said today. If anything, it makes me wonder about the palace and the way they prepare for these events. They invited a woman who set up a charity specifically for black DV victims. Did they think she wouldn't mind being asked where she was really from?

There’s a full Guardian interview the woman’s background is no secret….
