Her picture is in the Mail article linked above.

Regardless, her first answer of "Hackney" should have been sufficient.
She was being deliberately provocative because she knew the elderly woman wouldn't understand that her subcontext was that she was born in the UK but had different ethnicity.

Well done Ngozi, you have just threatened people in your supposed secure safe houses.

Um, did this tweeter miss where Ngozi said that she didn't know where in Africa her ancestors were from?! How could she then be a proud Igbo or whatever? 😵‍💫🤯
I’ve no idea I’m not the tweeter, just posted as there’s lots of mixed opinions on it.

You are talking absolute shite.
Ngozi was being provocative by quite truthfully replying that she was from Hackney? How exactly is that provocative? It’s the truth.

As for your pathetic assertion that she has threatened people in safe houses - give your head a wobble. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Don't be so ridiculous. Elderly people aren't all ignorant and racist. Plenty of 80 year olds only retired in the last 15 years and so would have been subject to diversity policies and gone on diversity courses.

My parents were born in 1920 and neither would have been so rude as to probe further. They wouldn't have demanded that their Scots friends with Italian surnames furnished the part of Italy that their ancestors came from either.

People have been immigrating to the UK for centuries. One of the earliest Roman burials in England is of a woman with South Saharan ancestry. There have been black and Asian communities in the UK since the eighteenth century. Foreign students have been studying in and settling in the UK from the former Empire since the 19th century. Furthermore, I doubt if Lady Hussey missed that her godson was at the unveiling of the statue to the Windrush Generation from the Caribbean.

Why are you so keen to victim blame? Do you only do this with racism?

PS I'm 61. Am I about to become ignorant and racist in 19 years?

How has she threatened people in her safe houses? For refusing to answer a nosy lady’s racist question? What a rubbish statement.

I don’t think SH was interested at all if her descendants were brought from wherever in Africa. Ngozi herself shared that her parents are from the Caribbean and that’s why her charity started in this community as the violence against women in this community wasn’t taken seriously.
See, I absolutely get the outdated idea to use that as conversation starter. SH has probably expected she would talk about this and her charity and then ask two or three questions about the charity before moving on to the next person.
Ngozi didn’t react as expected and instead of jumping right ahead to the charity bit SH pressed on. I mean if she was dead set on following a script she could have brought up the information about her parents herself. It’s public information. Even if her intentions weren’t racist at all, she would obviously not doing a good job but instead rudely crossing into someone personal space and showing a complete lack of flexibility in conversation management. Those wooden standard conversations might have worked as long as HMTQ was still alive, but that’s most definitely over (something W&K should work on asap. They are also not very good at it. At least W is showing some change but is sometimes socially awkward so he comes across a bit strange. God for him I have a heart for socially awkward people. Not that it matters though) So, time for retirement in any case.

She works for a charity that supports black women who are in domestic violence homes. She shared her experience because it was relevant. Stop making excuses for such outdated and racist behaviour from Susan Hussey.
No excuse for Susan Hussey's remarks.

However given her age she would have remembered when Windrush first came so it would not have been a completely unusual question from her generation in the past even if unacceptable now

Yes, Ngozi turned up in African dress and a hairstyle not familiar to SH concealing her namebadge which may have been confusing to a woman in her 80s who was trying to process what she was representing. I'm not condoning what SH purportedly said.

Have you been in a safe house? Weirdly enough they can destroy lives. I've been asked to write about my experience.

Why isn’t it ok to say out loud how insane and ridiculous all this woke tit is. The tiptoeing, the kowtowing, the elephants in the room. This is absolutely out of control.

Most decent hardworking Brits couldn’t give two craps what someone’s background is. We just don’t care. We DO care if you are a complete and utter twit.

Why is all this being forced on us, now more than ever.

Everyone cowering in fear from being called raaayyycist. Even on here, it’s not ‘cohesive’ to call it all out and speak freely. Where is all this going to end.

Somebody better start pushing back and quick. This migrants coming over. You should all know by now there’s a bigger agenda going on. If this post gets removed, there’s your answer!

This elderly lady has been representing the Queen and the RF for over 60 years, if she hasn’t learnt by now that asking someone ‘no, where are you really from’ is a bit of a conversation stopper then it’s a bad job.

I think you have to look at the whole conversation.

Ngozi explained that she was British, but the racist wouldn’t accept that.
“Where are you really from?” Think about what that means coming from a white person to a person of colour. Well, yes OK, I suppose you may well have been born here, but let’s face it, you’re not properly British are you? I mean, you’re brown.”
I’ve heard tit like this about my kids since they were born. It’s sickening, it’s disgusting and it’s racist. There’s no excuse for it. Ever.

“concealing” her name badge is a word that implies deceit. Having a bit of hair fall in front of it is not the same as concealing it. Ngozi immediately said which charity she was from, and even told Susan that she didn’t know where her ancestors came from, but this wasn’t enough forher.

Extrapolating this chat to mean Ngozi is threatening the people in her safe house is a pretty extreme reaction, and combining that with your earlier comment that we are ignoring domestic violence is not cool. Discussing racism does not mean any of us are ignoring domestic violence. I think it’s a real shame that Camilla’s event got overshadowed by Lady Susan’s tactlessness, she should have a much better grasp of basic social cues with her experience.

Exactly. Age isn't an excuse here - she's a representative of the monarch so she should know better. You'd think with all the Meghan and Harry stuff that the whole palace would be hyper aware of race and the need to be careful of what they say.

Apart from the race aspect, she was being really pushy and rude too. If you ask a stranger a small talk type question, you need to accept whatever answer they give you even if you think it's wrong or not a full answer. If they don't want to give you anymore info then you back off and change topic. You don't keep pushing it with someone you've just met if they're signalling that they don't want to go there.

@Miss Begotten have you ever been in a safe house to protect yourself from being killed then getting abused there?

You are vastly underestimating the effect DV has and the abuse by people purporting to 'help', set up by ego. It exposes curiosity behind the PO boxes and façade of housing associations and gossipy, idiotic staff who spread information.

Ngozi has obviously used this in a racist way rather than trying to keep people safe.

Anyway have you ever been in a safe house?

SH wanted to know her heritage although she went about the wrong way in keep persisting the question.
I do think there are acceptable ways to ask someone about their heritage. It's nice to show interest in a person's culture or heritage but 'where are you really from' is not it.

That sounds like a terrible experience and I'm sorry you want through it but I don't see how Ngozi has put anybody's safety at risk or used anything in a racist way. You seem to be suggesting that she shouldn't have said anything about what happened today but really it's Susan hussey that shouldn't have said what she said.

It sounds like the lady in waiting maybe due to her age was a little confused by ever changing language around heritage/colour. Only in the last few months has it gone from bame to? Can't remember what the current word is.
Personally if feel bad if I had been the cause of making someone unemployed after such a long career with instant dismissal.
I'm white but don't always look it with a deep tan in the summer and have been asked more than once by white people where I'm from!
Instant cancel culture now instead of examining the cause of situations 🤷‍♂️

If you read the transcript posted on IG, she asked Ngozi 7 times. If she was a "little confused" by her being from London, why not say "Oh of course, I'm so sorry."

She knew exactly what she was doing.
