I like Adrian Mannarino's style. He is so efficient with his energy. His strokes are very sleek with no extra ornamentation. He relies on accuracy and angles rather than pure pace. Because he is smaller than most players he has developed this style. It is lovely to watch. He has improved over this past year and I hope he does well in the coming tournaments.

I also like Sebastian Korda - very laid back. He is very tall and comes from a family of athletes. His style is to hit hard and get into the net. I really like his interviews but fear he may be too laid back. He is another one, like Taylor Fritz, with a highly attractive/plastic looking girlfriend which puts me off.

Holger Rune is my other choice. Danish which is unusual for tennis. I enjoy his energetic game and fierce fist pumping. His relationship with his mother - his coach - is interesting too - he will order her off court if he finds her presence too much. She understands and goes. I like this dynamic.

Ah yes, I enjoyed Korda’s matches at Queens - even though he beat Norrie, who I’m growing to quite like too. I want to like Dan Evans but he seems a bit full of himself and bad tempered.

On the subject of British players, Katie Boulter looks to have a lot of potential - she was surprisingly powerful in her games at Wimbledon (up until the point where she was over-awed by centre court and massively out-played by Rybakina)

One of my friends came across Dan Evans on a flight and reported that he was extremely entitled and up himself. Sadly.

I like the look of Boulter too. It's great she has a tennis professional Alex De Minaur as a boyfriend too. Should help her a lot.

Happy to see more Daniil fans and that people don’t see him as a brat who complains for complaining‘s sake. Because that’s not what he does. I think he likes to entertain, I think he’s more sensitive than he often lets on (think AO final 2022, which almost broke him). And I think he and Stefanos are never going to be friends lol
He is usually right when he's complaining, but shushing a crowd is never going to go down well 😆.

A very smart guy, meanwhile tsitsipas is on twitter reposting cliche quotes he saw, like a 15 year old 😬. The revenge dance has been a highlight of the year 🕺.

It's a shame Medvedev will be on the other side of the draw for Djokovic in the uso.

He’s like those kids at school who were told they were bright and had loads of potential, but then made a big deal about never revising or putting in any effort in case it turned out they were actually just average and didn’t really have what it takes to be excellent after all.
Maybe it was a bit of a curse beating Federer at 20.

Did anyone watch this event at the weekend? I'm not sure how I feel about it. Although I'd probably go if I was in LA.

The Frankfurt lineup looks far better imo:

It reminds me of the Hundred in cricket especially the gaudy graphics.

I’m not sure why there are nicknames for players who didn’t participate. Is Rublo the best they can come up with for Andrey - that’s the name of his clothing brand anyway.

I saw someone on another forum saying that the court looked smaller but it could be an optical illusion with the doubles part removed.

Those are the players for the German event. They'll come up with those names themselves, rublev's team either wasn't feeling imaginative or wanted an excuse to promote the brand, or both 😆

I wouldn't want to face danill on a chess board, stefanos I think would be far easier 😃

It's probably the lack of doubles lines and different camera angles.

@Yel Thank you. I hadn’t realised there was another one in Europe. I expect he is trying to promote Rublo as he said last week that there should be clothes available for purchase in the next couple of months.

I don’t know how Daniil came up with chessboard. Like you say I expect he’s good.

I had noticed his "play for the kids" stuff, didn't realise it was his own merch.

It's all way too pretentious. It's only logo and text stuck on some generic stuff. If I had his money I'd try to actually launch something unique to cover new ground.

Onto Djokovic

He's already had a fair bit of (inforced) rest this week. Maybe really worried about uso.

LOL at Djokovic withdrawing from Toronto for “fatigue“ 3 weeks out from Wimbledon - even though I think he should prepare for the USO however he wants and it’s better than a last minute withdrawal. Before the Wimbledon final he was being painted as invincible. I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the field do against Carlos in Toronto. Time to step up. I’m not able to watch any of the tournaments before Toronto although I’ve not heard that Carlos is planning to play again until then.

Let’s face it; the Covid years probably gave him a bit of an advantage. He was injury-free and could rest when the tour paused. He might be an incredibly player, but I guess at 36, a bit of a rest won’t hurt his chances. He’s experienced enough to go into USO without having played a single match. Annoying.

I think that's one reason they're only allowed to miss one 1000. Although they always let them off with tenuous excuses and I guess they don't consider his forced missing of the sunshine double against that.

My immediate thought was that Fakervic is back: he’s reverse-ferreting his Wimbledon defeat.

Urgh, the BBC defending Andrew Castle 😡

Sorry, can’t seem to link the article but it’s in DM.
