I still think of her as ā€˜Chris Evert-Lloydā€™ as that was the name she played under in the years that I was mostly aware of her. Apparently their marriage broke up because she had an affair with Adam Faith! šŸ˜±

literally just spent the morning reading her wikipedia šŸ¤£

she also originated the term ā€œtennis braceletā€ - which i also didnā€™t know!

Iā€™d always wondered why single-strand diamond bracelets were called ā€˜tennis braceletsā€™ - itā€™s testimony to what a huge star she was at the time that she says something once and it becomes to globally recognised terminology!

Blimey! I didnt know that either! I remember enjoying her matches back in the day

Sabatini was my favourite and I would love to say it was strictly for her tennis ability. I wish I had been born earlier as the women's tennis era of the 70s and 80s looks fantastic.

When I was at uni, she was my boyfriendā€™s favourite too, for no tennis related reason whatsoever, and I was rather jealous. My mum had some Gabriella Sabatini perfume šŸ˜

My favourite player of all time is Steffi (with Rafa a close second), and I still remember a stunning Wimbledon Graf/Sabatini match from around 1988.

if i was putting my money on only one, i would say rune too. but it is crazy to think of how big the quality gap is right now.

i used to be a big taylor fritz believer but i think he just hasnā€™t got the right mindset at all, heā€™s likely going to be another bernard tomic and just never truly live up to his potential. also i intensely intensely dislike him but i think kyrigos is going to go down as a complete wasted talent.
Yep the gap is huge at the moment, but others could have the rapid rise that Alcaraz has. He could of easily been knocked out of queens at the first match and not progresses much in Wimbledon and he'd be in a totally different position right now.

I think kyrigos is scared himself of ever really fully committing and coming up short. So he'd rather go along with a half assed I try sometimes attitude.

Agree with Fritz, he's not that interesting to me and seems like he's peaked. Maybe I'm being hash but his influencer girlfriend puts me off supporting him. Nike had those ugly outfits that all the young guys were repping, it really didn't suit Fritz

Medvedev is by far the most entertaining on the tour, I could literally watch hours of his meme moments. The guy is a goldmine.

EXACTLY right about kyrigos - i think he was so scared of looking like he actually cared that he tried to do this whole nonchalant not bothered either way vibe (as well as being a complete brat) and it destroyed any true success he could have had. he was a great talent but ruined it for himself.

i have a soft spot for medvedev. mainly because he instantly looks exhausted and like heā€™s played five sets about two minutes into any match. relatable!

Favourite male: Rafa Nadal. Such an exciting dynamic player who doesn't rely on his serve unlike a lot of the men.

Favourite female: Monica Seles. She was so dominant from mid 1990 to 1993, winning 8 slams whilst still a teenager. An astonishing record. She wasn't just powerful, she was mentally tough and extremely tactical too.

Of the current crop, Alcatraz is my clear favourite. I don't really have a favourite female player, although I do appreciate the way Ons Jabeur often manages to outfox her more powerful opponents, just a shame the mental side lets her down in big finals.

Iā€™ve tried to watch Taylor Fritz but seeing his gf after every point put me off. Heā€™s still in the top 10 despite not seeming to be doing that well.

Iā€™m also a fan of Daniilā€™s antics.

Reactions: Yel
Seles had to be incredibly tough to ever deal with what she went through.

I would love to build a male player with the Goran serve, the Courier forehand and the Federer backhand. How many slams?

Happy to see more Daniil fans and that people donā€™t see him as a brat who complains for complainingā€˜s sake. Because thatā€™s not what he does. I think he likes to entertain, I think heā€™s more sensitive than he often lets on (think AO final 2022, which almost broke him). And I think he and Stefanos are never going to be friends lol

I agree that at this point Rune looks most likely to be able to keep up with Carlos. I know Carlos is a fan and friend of Sinner and has talked about him being his biggest rival in the future. But I think Jannik still needs a bit more time.

I loved Medvedev's "small cat" moment.
I was just about to post this! šŸ˜

My other favourite was when he played Rafa in the final of the US Open in 2019: they played a highlight reel of Nadalā€™s career, and Medvedev said something along the lines of ā€œitā€™s a good job I lost, because what could they show for me?ā€ šŸ˜

Heā€™s like those kids at school who were told they were bright and had loads of potential, but then made a big deal about never revising or putting in any effort in case it turned out they were actually just average and didnā€™t really have what it takes to be excellent after all.
