Forgive me if this has been discussed to the death, I haven’t been on in a while.

What’s the deal with Michelle? She’s been there two years and never so much as had a Christmas partner. She was barely even in the clauditorium last year and then she didn’t even do the live tour. I know she’s on the pro tour but that casts been set for quite a while now. IMO in the few times I’ve paid attention to her in the clauditorium she comes across very cold and not someone I’d be bothered watching with a partner if it meant benching someone else. And I read somewhere (could’ve been reddit) that she had a bit of a reputation backstage of being bratty and just really rude. She also doesn’t appear to be particularly friendly with any of the pros and you never see her with any of them outside of work. I really wonder if they’d keep her this year, especially as they don’t appear to have any intention of using her.

I agree re all the previous talk of there being no need for 5 extra pros, one male and one female would do it. Especially when they don’t use them all for blackpool backing dancers etc and bring in more anyway.

ETA: my source (reddit). Obviously take with a pinch of salt etc etc

I'd say the story likely has some legs to it, but the timeline is a little iffy, and if she does return, then it's fabricated. I remember that a user on here went to the launch show and said that her boyfriend was behaving badly and causing problems in the audience. Then she was nowhere to be seen for the first half of the series. I do wonder if those two things were connected. There had to be a reason for her being absent, and like you, I don't think she comes across particularly likeable.

It's interesting that she wasn't cast in the live tour, but it was unusual this time around for them to have 3 long-term female pros sign up as backing dancers, normally they would skip it. I assume Katya & Karen needed the money and Nadiya maybe wanted to be with Kai.

Glad that Gio is coming back. The slurs against him have been disgusting. So what if he is a tough teacher? It's his livlihood and profession. Don't sign up to the show if you're not going to take it seriously.

5 separate people (4 women of multiple ages and one man) having issues with someone's behaviour in the training room is not something to say "so what" about. Bet you've not been on the receiving end of someone like that.

Then others such as Debbie and Rose who haven't complained did very well listening to the expert and respecting their patch. Anton never cared about his partners not taking it seriously and that was his choice. Gio is a young man trying to set himself up for life. How you do with a partner on Strictly plays a big part in what earnings you make in the next 12 months. If a celebrity is signing up for the pay cheque and a bit of a laugh, then that's bad.

Just thought I'd let you all know

Gio's advertising his tour dates for 2025 🤣🤣🤣

I'm going to see him in 2 weeks. And as I've said before, I'll let him know how much he's loved around these parts 🤣🤣🤣

It isn't "slurs" for people to talk about the experiences they had with him and how they felt as a result. When several people have had similar issues, it's very likely that there is truth in what they're saying. Strictly is about the celebrities, not the pros, they should be teaching the celebs in a way that works for both of them, not just sticking with the same style of training for everyone and making the whole experience overly stressful for their celeb. It's just an entertainment show, there's no need to be a "tough teacher."

That's exactly why they should be signing up. What reasons do you think celebs should have for doing the show?

It a Saturday night shiney floor show. No one is going on it to take up a career in dance … they don’t even learn to dance, really - they learn a routine. No one is going to go to a Charleston competition dressed as a spooky bee keeper.

of course the celebs go on for the cheque unless you think that Les Dennis really thought he was in with a shot. They also go on to promote a show they are already on or to kick start a career.

A good teacher doesn’t just have one teaching style and expect their pupil to adapt to it, they adapt to the pupil. A good pro also should be able to read their celeb and know when to push and when to draw back, like Gorka with Nikita. A coffee break looking out the window at the trees.

I recently re-watched the Tina Turner tribute they did last series and Michelle was dancing with Neil in the opening sequence, just the two of them at first with Laura Mvula singing. I thought she was good and pleased she did get a bit of the spotlight.

Skim reading that Gio article in the DM and the sentence about the BBC being grateful to him solely winning that BAFTA and his dark and brooding good makes me suspicious that this article is from his team and he is the BBC source.

I wondered the exact same thing. It’s very much a ‘puff’ piece.

I had the same thought.

Snap! 😁

Absolutely. Literally every single person on the show, front of stage and backstage, is there because they’re getting paid to be there. Not one single person is turning up for free. They’re all there for the cheque.
And no one - on Strictly or any other tv programme or anything else in life whatsoever - is ‘bad’ for hoping not to have a tit time of it. 🙄

Strictly is all about the celebs. I love the pros and I am glad to see them do well from it, but the show needs all sorts of celebs to take part. This will only happen if they know they will be treated with respect. Gorka with Nikita is a great example of what strictly should be - she enjoyed it even though she was never going to win.

It is not a serious competition, it is Saturday night entertainment. Gio would do well to remember this. Also just because Debbie and Rose like him, it doesn’t mean the others are lying.

So he was only able to get 2 out of his 9 partners to listen to him?? Maybe he needs to change his approach.
Also Giovanni has multiple income streams now outside Strictly- it seems quite low on his list of priorities, which may be why the other pros largely seem to avoid him.

Also interesting that that puff piece says Faye decline to comment.., why not just deny it?

I know many have said the number of benched pros is excessive. I did agree, until I thought about how they nearly had Nadiya stand in for Nikita last year. They had three benched or eliminated male pros, and they still ended up picking her because the others were unavailable or unsuitable in some way.

Gorka would have been too short. Graz would have been a good replacement for Nikita, but he'd gone home to visit his wife as soon as he got eliminated. I'm pretty sure Neil's tall enough, so I wonder why they went for Nadiya instead of him? Was he unavailable because of being a new dad? Or was he just considered aesthetically unsuitable, to put it kindly. I mean I don't think there are many people who'd say they'd have loved to see Layton jive with Neil, so they probably made the right choice.

If an injury as late as week 7 can result in needing to replace a male pro with a female one, I can see why they want a few spare, especially in the earlier weeks, so you don't get a really mismatched pairing.

eta: lol, I completely forgot FR existed. Presumably he was considered unsuitable also. Wonder why? 😂

Maybe she doesn’t want to get involved and doesn’t feel strongly either way? I don’t think she hated him, but they weren’t best mates either
Yeah but given that they seemed fairly pally she could easily comment on a post or something to get the FR stans off her back.
Anyone remember there were rumours they were shagging? There were pics of some lunch where he was touching her face
The fact that she’s silent suggests to me she doesn’t want to support him.

ETA found it. He has his fingers in her mouth 🤢

With Gio I think it could be true that whilst some of his partners got on with him that they also recognise that perhaps his teaching method can be very tough and wouldn’t suit everyone, so maybe why they don’t want to comment. I have said before Michelle V summed it up with he is tough but that is what she needed and that style isn’t for her everyone. A good teacher on a 1-2-1 basis will adapt their style to get the best from their pupil.
I liked Gio and saw a couple of his shows until the way he came across with Ritchie, the comment about it didn’t matter about not being in the dances because no one cares about them, which to me even as a joke is disrespectful towards all the choreographers that work on the routines, then last year his mardy attitude towards Vito and then to top it off reading that he called Krishnan sh!t - again meant to be a joke but at least have some respect for people who are completely out of their comfort zone. Decent celebs are not going to want to go on strictly if pros are shouty and disrespectful about them even if it is sold as a joke. Since winning with Rose he comes across as Strictly is beneath him and that they owe him a favour for staying in the show.
