If anything, last year could have done with a few more ringers. Half of the semi-finalists being Annabel & Bobby was a joke. You had just Layton & Ellie who were actually good, maybe on-paper Nigel & Angela S were intended to be better.

Maybe we were spoiled by 2021/22 - those years had 10 proper contenders between them - Rose, John, AJ, Rhys, Hamza, Helen, Fleur, Molly, Will & Tyler.

100%. I didn’t realise how good last years cast were until I rewatched and compared to this year. I think they were all on a similar level as well, whereas this year Layton and Ellie stood out by a mile. All of those who got to Blackpool were genuinely very good last year.

TBF Amanda was good too, pace FR. And Angela had a lot of potential which I don't think Carlos really exploited (I know, I know, they're delightful pals).
And let's not forget, audiences did not like Fleur and Molly, no matter how good they were!

Yeah that’s true. Amanda probably would’ve made at least the quater finals had she stayed (not sure how popular she was) and Carlos did scanlon dirty with that cha cha 😢. When I went to see the tour I actually thought Scanlon was probably the best of all of them. Shame she didn’t stay longer

Also that picture of joe and Ellie sitting at the table, Ellie looks about 2 foot tall.

After Jade and Will I’m always amazed when still competing athletes are on Strictly. they have their own training schedules and regimes and know their bodies and what works for them and they aren’t going to risk a medal just to go another week. You could virtually see Jodie switch off when his stump started to have issues.

I didn't realise Jody was still seriously competing at the top level. He won a 15th World championship medal this weekend and has eyes set firmly on Paris. Glad to hear injuries didn't set him back too much.

Speaking of cycling, I know previous cyclists don't tend to have personalities that transfer well to Strictly but now Laura Kenny has retired I'd love to see her on a future series.

Laura Kenny surprised me at how engaging she was in all her retirement interviews as I've always thought she was a bit shy and awkward before. I don't really get Strictly vibes from her though, but she'd be a decent booking as a big Olympian name

Hoping we'll get some plausible rumours soon - I think it was about April/May last year when there were stories about Amanda and Ellie

I thought she’d be good too, but I believe she said she wanted to retire in order to spend more time with her children so I’m not sure if she’d be up for strictly. I suppose it’s only 3-4 months of your life?!
 
Nikita is apparently going to be on Loose Women now (undoubtedly to announce his civil partnership with Layton and their run of sold-out West End shows)

meanwhile I wish I could unsee this

Colson on GMB (live from The Rovers in his police uniform)
David on Lorraine
Louis on This Morning
Nikita on Loose Women

This is exactly what I said the other day, the general bb audience will have forgotten him and most of the others by this time next week. If he’s planning on leaving the biggest show on tv for the sake of an occasional presenting gig with eurovision or this morning then he’s very daft.

David on the other hand I think will get a lot more mainstream presenting work because that’s what he excels at, best to just stick to what they all know 😂

He’s just said on Loose Women that he’s got no plans to leave Strictly and he’s happy to stay there every year for as long as they want him
