There’s normally an element of truth to these but I don’t see them benching him, they’ve got to either bite the bullet and he leaves or they keep him and deal with the fallout. I reckon they’ll handpick him a partner he’ll get on with, and is unlikely to turn on the bbc (someone who works on another bbc show). I do wonder who’ll be benched this year given there should be 8 female celebs and 7 male, and likely to be a female same sex couple this year…The Strictly source has spoken - who knows if it's true. It's bollocks if the reason they don't give him a partner is to 'protect' him, though I would love to see the Beryl/DS meltdown
Strictly 'undecided about giving Giovanni Pernice celebrity partner'
The professional dancer, 33, has criticised by ex-partner Amanda Abbington, who pulled out of the show 'for medical reasons' last series, later accusing him of difficult behaviour during training.www.dailymail.co.uk
I thought Gio didn't feature at all in the group dances last year. I can't remember one where he was he was the lead.
I've mentioned this before - Anton talking about being at the front of group dances then gradually finding yourself at the back - that was Gio last year.
I definitely thought they were easing him out.
I think he got injured and then was filming his show with Anton when they were filming the pro dances, the assistant choreographer Arduino danced in his place I think. I remember he was the coach/director? in the musicals week group dance where he shouted at them all and didn’t dance because he was injured, lovely foreshadowing thereI thought Gio didn't feature at all in the group dances last year. Make the Antonificiarion complete - give him Jennie Bond to steer around for an awkward couple of weeks (a foxtrot to ‘They’re changing Guards at Buckingham Palace’) and then 14 weeks’ of Clauditorium haunting. There’s normally an element of truth to these but I don’t see them benching him, they’ve got to either bite the bullet and he leaves or they keep him and deal with the fallout. Yeah, they are harmless and of course can say what they like on their thread, and I think our mockery was light-hearted.I notice the DS thread are upset about being called obsessed by some here. I did think comparing them to Misery was a bit mean and overboard lol. And they're not anywhere near the level of Rios. (I know I compared them to them myself. But they're not like the Rios who still won't accept they're not gonna get married 3 years later and are always infantilising, ableist and misogynistic creeps in how they speak about Rose.)
Oh and despite their recent protestations, there have been plenty of negative comments about Ellie and Vito and their friendship/partnership in that thread from the start. I remember, because they were my joint faves, so it annoyed me every time I saw it. One of them (though it may not have been in the AT, it might have been in the main forum) called Ellie's win 'the British public celebrating mediocrity instead of excellence' or something like that (not an exact quote, couldn't be bothered looking for it, but definitely something close to that) which really pissed me off. Straight up delusion there, Ellie was nothing close to mediocre. She was better at the slow ballroom than Layton and any other year she'd have been the best dancer and been the one receiving hate from the 'too good to be there, it's not faaaaair' whingers.
Anyway, it's only the occasional post I find a bit silly or a bit annoying, I still enjoy the thread overall or I wouldn't follow it.
These folk need to get a life. Its a light entertainment showYeah, they are harmless and of course can say what they like on their thread, and I think our mockery was light-hearted.
I was badly disposed to them because some of the biggest Lakita fans on DS during the series were so anti-Vito (the ones saying he needed to be punched in the face or that he was vile and disgusting). TBF I think that was not the people who are currently posting in that AT, but there was such a pervasive sense that Vito (and Ellie) were the biggest threats to Lakita winning (which was never going to happen anyway), and some of them got so carried away in their frustration that Lakita weren't going to win. I do remember someone saying Ellie winning was like preferring Blue Nun to Bollinger, and of course someone calling her mum a 'fishwife' for celebrating so much when she won (imagine *anyone* daring to say that about Layton's mum!)
So fine, if they like to obsess - just the snide comments like the one a couple of weeks ago that the E/V friendship was a sham because he hadn't seen her play, are out of order.
FR and Patricia Routlege looking more and more likely - the only one who won't take any nonsense.
Yes, I remember things were quite tense and nasty around the few days before and after the Final. I get the frustration - I started to get quite annoyed myself that Layton and Nikita had zero chance of winning despite how much hard work they'd put in and the amount of improvement they'd produced.Yeah, they are harmless and of course can say what they like on their thread, and I think our mockery was light-hearted.

You’ve got to wonder as well who would actually want to be paired with him. There’s normally an element of truth to these but I don’t see them benching him, they’ve got to either bite the bullet and he leaves or they keep him and deal with the fallout. This is I the problem with hiring trained dancers and performers, as any improvement they make will go unnoticed because they already looked amazing on week one. I thought Layton's technique and footwork did massively improve but to the average viewer he was brilliant from the start, because he did 4 backflips in week two. It just opens up the door for unnecessary scrutiny which the bbc could avoid by stopping hiring trained dancers! (Obviously not just Layton he's just a recent example)I started to get quite annoyed myself that Layton and Nikita had zero chance of winning despite how much hard work they'd put in and the amount of improvement they'd produced.
Someone suggested earlier an Olympian would be a good fit for Gio because they'd be focused and hard-working, but I'm not even sure an Olympian would want him. Thinking of Adam Peaty - he seemed actually a little bit terrified of Katya, and several of their ITT interviews were about how she'd 'broken' him with training to the point of exhaustion or near-injury.
I think he was a bit out of his depth because, while they're used to training hard, Olympians are also used to being the best in their field, not struggling with something that doesn't come naturally to them, and with movements that might go against their training/muscle memory etc.
Add in a cold, unsupportive partner yelling at you in between ciggie puffs, I think a lot of them would prefer to give it a miss.
I tend to think if it was Maura, especially seeing as he was imminently dumping her, he'd have probably called her something quite a bit stronger, though also probably beginning with C.
Also we all kept saying here how competitive and hard-working Amanda was, to the point of being a bot and not radiating any enjoyment. Maybe she was given to Gio last year because producers wanted him not to have another Richie and to have someone very focused with natural talent. And look how poorly that worked.
The problem isn't his partner, it's him. Rose was the great triumph, but she said she could just turn off her hearing aids when he annoyed her, plus at a certain point he could tell they might win and obviously that influenced things. And even with all that (great partner who clearly wasn't 'difficult', natural dancer etc) he was still caught on camera storming into the training room shouting 'where is the stupid cow??!' either about Rose or his then-gf.
To misquote T. Swift: 'It's Gio, hi, I'm the problem it's Gio'.
