I have to say the one thing that's surprised me the most personally is the naivety of the adult audience and fans and their genuine shock at the world of dance being brutal and that some professional dance teachers do abuse their power and often their students physically and mentally .

I agree totally with the Rev when he says it shouldn't come as a revelation to anyone that Srictly has a 'dark heart' didn't we all sadly sort of know it deep down .

Absolutely this! With each year getting more and brutal with gruelling training regimes and needless injuries, how could anyone be surprised that the environment wasn't cosy and caring?

Genuinely, no.

I'm not as long watching it as others on here, and of course I got a laugh, like most people, out of the best friends forever stuff that they all spout, as they leave.

Did I think that there was actual abusive behaviour in the background, such as has been revealed about Graziano? No, I didn't.

Definitely and where's the line

How many times on training VT have we seen contestants with the 'nicest' of pro's take a broom stick and tape, make them lift there arms up high in hold position then strap them to it for hours so they have to keep in frame,
they always complain of how painful it is, always ask to be allowed out of it and they just get made to wear it for longer

Is that going to far physically ? Are they not respecting someones right to say no ?
I think a lot of 'methods' will be under scrutiny right now.

Is Zara taking a pot at 'poor me'?
No, she wasn’t the one who brought up Graz’s treatment of her. A BBC employee did. And then they spoke to her. She has a career at the BBC - she probably felt funny about complaining at the time she was on the programme because of that fledgling career. She is speaking out as a result of the BBC’s investigation into Gio which has been widened out to tease out problem areas.

From the Daily Fail:

A source said: 'Graziano has lost everything. He is in pieces and filled with remorse. He knows, quite rightly, there is no way back for him in showbiz in the UK. His Strictly dancing career is over.

'He’s fled back home and is living on a farm, earning a pittance, and throwing himself into manual labour.

'He says he is literally living next to some cows- it’s an astonishing fall from grace.'

Boo fricking hoo.

His family has a vineyard in Sicily which he was visiting when all this kicked off. So he's basically staying with family, helping out on the vineyard. Hardly living a life of indentured servitude.

Wonder if he's already put a call into Ballando or is letting the dust settle. I saw a popular Italian twitter account call for him and Giovanni to be hired. Giada must be hoping her own job there won't be affected.

I don't think this is the same thing tbh. Dance is physical and even on a lighthearted show like strictly you have to introduce some technique and push the contestants to some extent if they're going to make any improvement. I think if they didn't improve each week it would get boring very quickly. But you can push someone and be a strict teacher without being abusive and degrading and letting your massive ego takeover.

Working on a family owned vineyard in Sicily sounds like the fucking dream tbh, what a prick

It makes you wonder how many of these “disputes” way back in earlier series translate now into bullying. Think we’ve become a society more vocal and aware of people’s actions and behaviours. the BBC were probably quite quick to brush things under the carpet in the past but have seen so many skeletons pop back out of the cupboard they’ve had to change gears.
The ones I remember are Ola and Steve which was all a bit odd and Amy and Danny. They both got cast as rumours really.

There maybe plenty of others that have kept quiet. It’s quite sad that so many seem to be BBC employees and although I know that probably because they’re more likely to get chosen, you do wonder if they’ve kept quiet in fear of it damaging their career to complain.

The whole emphasis going forward needs to be on the show being fun - and celebrating improvements however small. Case in point Tony Adams. Some of his dances were joyous, and it was obvious he and Katya worked really hard. But several times the judges just actually openly laughed at them and refused to give a proper critique. And you could see on both Katya and Tony's faces how confused and hurt they were. Because the 'weaker' dancers work just as hard as the better ones. They don't set out to be a joke.
The judges can still give a low score, but still be kind and encouraging. It's a little thing but would change the culture and atmosphere of it all for the better imo.
Also judges should drop the 'well one of you really doesn't deserve to be here' type comments in dance offs.
Totally agree! Imo they should judge people based on how they perform based on their ability/age/prior training etc. Not saying they have to be given 10s but like you said the comments could be so much nicer and encouraging. I also think that they should drop the sob story/this is SO meaningful/we are having the best time ever falsities and just let everyone enjoy it for what it actually is.
