I don’t enjoy the show as much as I used to probably because it has strayed way too far from its original concept. It was a dance competition based on Latin/ballroom. Now it seems that anything goes - C.C. with no elements of any recognised Latin or ballroom dance and barefoot interpretive wafting/running around for example.

Also the opening group dance at the start of ‘both’ nights could do with reining in.
Watching a host of world champion ballroom/Latin professionals perform a non specific dance, wearing some sort of themed costume to fit in with whatever random song the producers have chosen, seems a bit of a stretch. Much preferred the old days when the pros would perform a recognised dance, with no themed scenery, wearing the appropriate outfit for either a ballroom or Latin group number. It showed their skill, artistry and how the chosen dance should look when performed by professionals.

A few weeks ago I was looking at group opening dances from the past and came across a jive from 14 years ago to Rebel Yell. Everyone is in traditional jive wear dancing on an undecorated set. So easy to watch and appreciate all the steps. (The singing isn’t too bad either compared to what we get nowadays!)

Any long running show has to move with the times and aim to stay fresh, but most of the changes are a step too far for me.

Sooo you’re saying the rights holders can say no to this? 😅
(I’m so sorry I’ll see myself out)

Totally agree re:Johnny Bailey in the Wicked film! I loved him so much in Company and Last 5 Years but I haven’t really seen him dance… excited to see it all come together. 💚

I love love love Jonathan Bailey! He’s such a fantastic actor, Company was incredible. Anyone else getting their heart broken by him in Fellow Travelers? It’s killing me 😭

He’s so brilliant and just fantastically heartbreaking in Fellow Travelers. I met him last year and he is as just as lovely and warm and kind as you’d hope.

The best Musicals week routine will always be Faye doing Lonely Goatherd

I’m okay with Strictly keeping theme weeks around because every so often you get an absolute gem like that. Between that and her Halloween CC and her old Hollywood style show dance, I’d have loved to see Faye win.

Just watched, as I was being force-fed tequila last night at friendsgiving. So, hungover thoughts:

Layton - it was interesting, but I didn't love it. And those shoes...no baby.
Nigel - stunning, sexy, beautiful, undermarked.
Annabelle - she might actually be the most improved of the ones left, and I adored the choreo. But she's uncomfortable to watch because she's thinking so hard (maybe she should apply that to her batshit anti-vaxx views instead of a paso)
Angela - lacking in the hips, but I smiled the whole way through and I love how she's developed.
Bobby - I think he did well to resist the obvious production manipulation, and I love a contempowaft (yeah, yeah, I know!). It was ok.
Ellie - fan-bleeping-tastic (walking up Vito?! Insanity), but I did feel there wasn't the passion in her face. Still deserved at least a 10 from Anton, if not Craig.

I wish I'd remembered to vote, because despite having an amazing week Nigel is in danger. I think it's going to be an Angela/Nigel (possibly Layton) DO, which I really don't want. I'd rather a Bobby/Annabelle one. I wish they'd have a non-elimination week when they've had drop-outs, because I'm still salty we're missing out on a 4 person final.

Also, why the duck do they never credit the actual artist of a song that's been covered?! That's a Kate Bush song, not Maxwell. Just like Dancing On My Own is a Robyn song, not some BGT toilet flush.

Im having to rewatch it with the sound off- im scared all the local cats and dogs might end up on my doorstep. Seriously though, the vocals seem to get worse each time, her voice cracks at one point

Hayley didn't sing the Celine number it was the new (ish) guy. So it could have been worse.

I suppose we'll have The Lion King next week after it not being used for movie week. Can't believe they used it twice last year. I had totally blanked Mardy doing Miss Saigon, which I'm grateful for.

It is incredible that all the couples have scored a 10 now. It really does feel unpredictable.

Not poor ol Nigel. He struggles to get 9's out of these judges.

I'm not so sure about a Nigel win but I do want him in the final to stick it to the judges/producers and deliver a couple of real wow routines to close off the series. Plus the fact that the final needs a 3rd couple and he has more to offer at his best than Annabel, Bobby or Angela.

Can't see past the win going to Ellie.
There’s no chance Nigel will win, Ellie has been the clear winner for weeks now. Still hoping he makes the final though as I would much prefer to watch him over Bobby or Annabel

Almost ten years?? That’s quite a gap and very different life stages.

I have a similar gap with my husband met at the same age age as Ellie & Veto too, on paper it can look a lot but once you get to late 20s that gap closes massively. It just really depends if at the beginning the couple are at the same life stage as one another. And if the older (usually male) partner is sensitive to the fact there can be a power/life experience imbalance.

👌🏻Fully agree re Annabel
