They used a Hamilton song in last year’s musicals week pro dance, so they obviously have the ability to use it.

But wasn’t that with cast members from the actual productions performing the songs while the pros performed a dance routine around them, so more a case of the production doing a guest slot with the pros rather than them allowing Strictly to perform their own version of the song.

it was. and likewise the six and etaj numbers they did in the same routine involved the current casts of both shows - so i think (like you say) this impacts on the rights as it’s basically the show itself doing a guest slot.

it’s a shame though, as they just always pick the same songs from the same shows when there’s so much amazing potential out there. but i guess they can’t help it if they’re restricted budget wise.

I know this is going to sound silly to many people but those few minutes of re watching Katya and Nigel's rumba honestly make me feel like just in that moment with the two of them there's still a bit of goodness in life
At the very end where he holds her he just dances with his eyes completely closed and it feels so beautiful to me i could cry everytime I see it 😢
Im having to rewatch it with the sound off- im scared all the local cats and dogs might end up on my doorstep. Seriously though, the vocals seem to get worse each time, her voice cracks at one point

Yeah, I'm enjoying it too. I liked Hamza a lot as a person last year, but he basically won it in week 4 and none of his subsequent dances really had the same impact.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this year, I like the fact that there's no real nailed on winner like there was in the last few years - imo.
I liked Hamza and I love Jowita, so I was delighted they won. I never really took to Helen.

This year, it's almost at a point where I hate to see any of them leave. 😁

I know the three I want in the final, (Nigel, Layton and Ellie and their equally lovely pros) whether it will be them or not remains to be seen, of course. But I'm loving it.

I don't think the issue is with couples dancing to songs from Hamilton on the show. Hamilton has a lot a rap in it, we all know how bad the singing can be, imagine them trying to rap?

I'm in a bit of a cleft stick with Musicals Week because I wish they'd do something different, but I also only like a small number of musicals 😂

I absolutely loathe Hamilton, so if they never did it I'd be quite happy. I don't like Six, or Rent or Wicked and anything that Andrew Lloyd Webber has ever done.

Basically, I'm impossible to please 😂

Honestly, I think they should come up with a new theme week altogether.

I wasn't expecting my favourite of Nigel's dances to be a Rumba but here we are. I know very little of dances, and full disclosure I dislike strictly and avoid it like the plague - I'm here purely for Nige then I'll never watch it again, but I'd always been lead to believe that a Rumba was the kiss of death. I'm really pleased that I loved it so much and he actually got a lot of great comments for it. I wonder how he compared to other male celebs in this dance as I have nothing to compare it to 🤣

Bit left field but I wouldn’t mind if someone did the “and we went dancing” number from Blood Brothers: all about reflecting your life story through dancing and someone gets the chance to be Marilyn Munroe.😀

Looking at last year they used Chicago (Molly's Charleston to Hot Honey Rag, which IMO suffered from having been done impeccably by Georgia), The Lion King (groan, for Hamza, please no more Disney!), Fame for Kym (but that was a holdover from the previous week when she had Covid), Miss Saigon for Will (problematic!), Cabaret for Helen (good), and An American in Paris for Fleur (also good).

The previous year was even worse IMO: Matilda (that awful CC by Tilly and Nikita), John being forced to do Mary Poppins, and then The Sound of Music, Singin' in the Rain, Footloose, and Frozen (the last three fine). And who can forget the piece de resistance: Tom shitting the bed to Les Mis!

in short, Musicals Week = generally wank.

Thinking about Hamilton music, someone mentioned it was used in DWTS. I do wonder with that now being on Disney+ in the USA and the Hamilton pro shot being on there too did that play a factor?

It's the only dance this series that I've watched on repeat. Was not expecting to like a rumba this much either 😆

The two other male rumbas that stick out in my memory are Jay McGuiness (equally packed full of emotion) and Kelvin Fletcher (absolute filth)
