I felt like it was going to be between Angela and Nigel for which one ended up in the dance-off this week. There are certain dances it’s never good to get this late and the CCC must be one of the worst.

I liked Angela and would have preferred to watch her over Annabel and Bobby but I’m not surprised she’s gone. And Layton ending up in the DO was inevitable at some point. However I’m pleased he avoided it for so long. I wasn’t a fan of their AS (the song choice didn’t give Nikita a lot of smooth to work with) and the low leaderboard position seemed to make the DO likely for them this week. I hope it doesn’t knock either of them because they’re a joy to watch together.

I’d prepared myself for Nigel to be out this week so him making musicals week is a really pleasant and welcome surprise. Every week for him here on out feels like a delightful bonus to me.

I don’t care how much Annabel has improved. I disagree with what she stands for and the people she chooses to associate with so I shall continue to ignore her presence in the show no matter how much the judges praise her. And now Bobby’s done his inevitably emotional CC, I’d be happy for him to go next week thank you.

There’s no way Ellie isn’t winning this. She’s sweet but Layton would get my votes in the final over her. The locked in winner is a lot more fun in the years when I’m rooting for that person than the years where I can take or leave them.

I'm so surprised they haven't used anything from Hamilton yet. I think a dance to something like Burn would be great.

I don't think they've ever used anything from Jersey Boys have they?

Just like with Movie week I'd like to see less obvious songs being chosen.

Maybe they don't have permission to use them ? Do they need to get permission to use songs if they aren't using originals ?

You can argue that the celebs don't need to partake, but I blame BBC for abusing and manipulating the celebs in these situations

I think production tend to steam-roller over the contestants to get what they want.

A friend of a friend was on an earlier series. They and the pro fought tooth and nail against a particular song/theme that they were given as they loathed it and thought it was inappropriate. In the end the pro point-blank refused, and they were given something else at the last minute, but the ‘something else’ was dire as the song, costume & dance were completely mismatched (there were a lot of ‘WTAF was THAT?!’ comments online at the time). The theme/song they refused was later ‘gifted’ to someone else in the same series (who presumably either didn’t mind it, or didn’t dare argue in case the same happened to them).

This was back when things seemed less blatantly manipulated than they are now, so Christ knows what it’s like nowadays.

I saw a comment somewhere from Layton (The One Show?) where he said he wasn’t going to dance to anything he’d been in.
(Of course Production might have other ideas)

I hope he doesn't. The blonde is throwing me though.

After listening to Bobby I feel like it was definitely the producers who pushed for this. Especially when his focus seemed to be on how lucky he really was to have all he has (which no doubt Jade would be delighted with) but I definitely did feel like he didn't want to bring her up. It felt like he was dissociating afterwards a bit of I'm honest and I wonder did he get sold they idea that the dance wasn't really about his mum just that they were using her favourite song and he thought that was a nice idea?? I dunno if I'm explaining myself right at all!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

No you explained perfectly. I'm surprised at Dianne filming herself before the show writing a card to her dad and drawing a picture of her and Bobby winning. Bit icky.

Bastards 🤣

I have just realised that I said Vito was being accused of being a pedalo! :ROFLMAO: I would certainly peddle h[REDACTED!]
DS needs to have a word with itself.

Layton and Nikita's outfits were dreadful. I don't know which was worse, possibly Nikita's. It looked like there was material that had to be used and that's what he got.

Delighted that Nigel and Katya's dance went well, and shock, horror, Katya got an acknowledgment from most of the judges. I nearly fainted 😁. They won't overmark them though. Ever.

I honestly didn't get what was being conveyed by Bobby's dance, the bit with Dianne on his shoulder had me particularly puzzled. As I said upthread, there's a naivety there that I sincerely hope wasn't being exploited by others.

Thought Ellie and Vito were fabulous, as usual, and I loved the VT 😁

I have said before I think Angela hides behind humour and I think she is finally starting to show her real self a bit more. I just love her partnership with Carlos.

Annabel is the dark horse of the competition, and the judges love her. I'm a fan of Johannes so I find myself watching him, not her.

Like others, I was really looking forward to Strictly sparkling up my life especially this year.
So all I can say is KEEP DANCING 💃🕺

I think what bothered me about Bobby's CC is it felt less genuine and connected to who he is as a person, and therefore less sincere.

Annabelle's, Nigel's and even Adam's all felt more real. Annabelle's grief is obviously still present in her life, I don't believe Nigel would have picked that song/styling for himself, but the sentiment behind the dance was very real, and I could easily imagine young Adam dancing around the living room to BSB with his brothers.

Even going further back, Chris Ramsey being a bit daft to PJ and Duncan definitely captured him as a person and Bill's was perfect for him as a passionate musician.

It felt more like Bobby had to do what people expected him to do rather than what he might actually want to do, if that makes sense?

Totally agree! I mean, heaven forfend we use anything that’s CURRENTLY RUNNING, either in the West End or touring (perennial gripe!)

Anyway fingers crossed they buck the trend this year. Moulin Rouge is a great shout; would love them to do something from Hamilton (Layton would make a fab Angelica 😅) or SIX as discussed earlier.
Or they could really push the boat out and include some Sondheim… hahaha who am I kidding… nice to wish for, though.
Have they ever used Dancing Through Life? Bit on the nose, I appreciate, but would be better than the time when they crucified DG.

A song from Hamilton was used on DWTS a couple of years ago which gives me hope that Strictly could use it if they wanted to.

Some productions might say no to their music being used but it seems like a great way to introduce a musical to an audience who might not have heard of it before. However perhaps they say no out of fear of the Strictly singers butchering their songs!

I can see them including Wicked next year as the movie comes out in November. Dancing Through Life is a great shout - the prospect of watching Jonathan Bailey sing it is the main reason I'm looking forward to seeing the film version.

An observation on the Bobby supporters is that I see a lot of them on TikTok but I don’t think they actually watch the show. There’s always loads of comments on Bobbys dances like “what score did he get” etc which makes me think a large portion of his and Diannes fanbase don’t watch the show and just see the videos online, and therefore aren’t voting, hence the dance off last week

Sooo you’re saying the rights holders can say no to this? 😅
(I’m so sorry I’ll see myself out)

Totally agree re:Johnny Bailey in the Wicked film! I loved him so much in Company and Last 5 Years but I haven’t really seen him dance… excited to see it all come together. 💚

I thought that was Diane-in-heaven as indicated by Diane reaching skywards with a wistful expression and then sliding down and walking off as shadow-Diane vanished.

I'm the same, the crop of "celebrities" this has been awful, made worse by the inclusion of a Love Island contestant. It's like they've run out of money or ideas, and the best dancer isn't going to win. It's getting to the point with this show that the winner is a foregone conclusion by Week 5 because everyone goes nuts for one of their dances and that's all everyone bangs on about (Hamza's salsa last year for example)

My sister works in telly. Apparently the BBC spunked all their money up the wall on this year's Eurovision so had nothing left to spend on the celebs, thinking that just because it's Strictly it will do just as well with z-tier.

I’m really worried they might try get Layton to do a song from ETAJ or Billy Elliot 😬 which frankly would be a complete nail in the coffin. I can’t decide what I want to see him doing - his Charleston should be pretty good and I’ll riot if I don’t see him rumba 😂 but I recon he might get ballroom again.

I think Layton will be alright with DO. I’m sure it’ll shake him but you could tell they were both expecting it this week, they were very hot across all social media on asking people to vote. I do think it might throw Nikita though. He’s super competitive & I think he went too hard with content in this dance. Really hoping he reins it in a bit next week & focus on a great dance and not throwing the kitchen sink at it. I like that he’s taking risks with his coreo but it didn’t pay off this week I don’t think

They said on the One Show a few days ago that they already know their Musicals Week song and they got the one they wanted, and Layton said he didn't want anything from a musical he'd been in, so that rules that out, thankfully.

Jeff's face last night when Bobby was sat on the sofa trying to express his grief in his own words but sadly just not really being able to articulate it in a way that made sense was the only moment I felt moved
obviously as a dad he said well done but you could tell Jeff knows Bobby is disconnected and needs help that dance was way to on the nose, almost depressing to me .

I would love to know who this was!
