Is anyone else struggling to get into it this year? I’m just not enjoying it as much but it could just be me. One good thing is that I’m not invested enough to have a favourite - I love that for me! It takes the pressure right off 😂

There does seem to be something missing from it this year. I think it's a combination of the celebs this year not having as much character as previous years (they're all very lovely but not really characterful, if that makes sense?) and the whole show just starting to feel a little old fashioned. The hosts and judges all just feel a little old and stuffy now, whilst the singers are just butchering most of the songs they perform now.

Someone like Rylan or Alison Hammond with the energy and enthusiasm to replace Tess would be a good start (although to be fair, a potted plant could do better)

It needs fresh blood both in front and behind the camera.

Morning everyone
Just a little check in to clarify something from last night.

So minutes before the show started my lovely Auntie turned up unexpectedly to announce that we wouldn't be seeing her this Christmas
She had bought with her my pressie hamper filled with fancy goodies and in it was also a bottle of prosecco
Im not a big drinker but was like oh sod it shall we have a glass now and watch strictly (my son now stays his dad's at weekends so I was glad of the company 🙁) anyway after she left I had the opened bottle there and thought why not.

I then came on here singing/shouting baby baby and what not and rambling on about Nigel feeling us all up and some such drunken nonsense after that rumba and I think a few posters thought it was sick because they put a 🤢 so if my post offended any of you lovely lot then of course I am truly sorry, I was very very drunk at the time 🤦
(I also reeked havoc on another thread aswell but they deserved it lol)
I think it says a lot about the tone of this thread that I don’t think anyone even noticed! 😆

I’m really worried they might try get Layton to do a song from ETAJ or Billy Elliot 😬 which frankly would be a complete nail in the coffin. I can’t decide what I want to see him doing - his Charleston should be pretty good and I’ll riot if I don’t see him rumba 😂 but I recon he might get ballroom again.

I think Layton will be alright with DO. I’m sure it’ll shake him but you could tell they were both expecting it this week, they were very hot across all social media on asking people to vote. I do think it might throw Nikita though. He’s super competitive & I think he went too hard with content in this dance. Really hoping he reins it in a bit next week & focus on a great dance and not throwing the kitchen sink at it. I like that he’s taking risks with his coreo but it didn’t pay off this week I don’t think

The shadow mummy disappearing leaving poor little Bobby all alone was simultaneously the funniest and sickest part of it.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I saw the beginning of the dance and said... nah this isn't for me.

I know everyone deals with grief and death differently. But the fact that he never seems to mention her and wants to be successful on his own merit ( which is extremely admirable) just convinces me this was a total set up by producers.
I lost my own mam at 12 and I lit a candle for her at my wedding and asked the priest not to mention it. Personally I just prefer to remember her in my own way.

You only said what I was thinking to be fair 🤣

I saw a comment somewhere from Layton (The One Show?) where he said he wasn’t going to dance to anything he’d been in.
(Of course Production might have other ideas)

I’m sure he’ll be fine with being in the dance off. I think he’s expected it every week since week 3. It might even actually be better for him to have it actually be a thing that happens

I had a feeling this would be the dance off and result. I found Angela completely forgettable and it wasn’t her dance at all (maybe having such a strong dance last week didn’t help).

Layton is following that well trodden ringer path of hitting the dance off when his scores dropped. That was the first of their dances that I didn’t really enjoy to be honest, too stilted and “bitty” for me. But his overall dancing exquisite and he could knock anyone one else out of the dance off.

I really liked Nigel’s dance and feel he was underscored again. He’s popular but there may be an element of people voting for him because they’re sick of him being dragged every week.

Annabel was much better than I thought she’d be! I’ve seen worse Paso’s. I think a lot of folk will think Angela going over her is the first shock elimination.

I’m not really sure what to say about Bobby and stay in the realms of politeness. I’m no fan of ‘sob stories’, that’s no secret but I don’t grudge anyone an opportunity to tell their story in CC…I just don’t get how that was a tribute to Jade Goody AT ALL. It reminded me of a kinder gym class, just loads of running and jumping. Jade was a lot of things but she struck me as someone who would like a dance so I think a more fitting tribute would have been something he could do an upbeat, disco dance to. Staying away from S Club Seven though 😬

Anton definitely has an issue with Ellie and Vito. Surely it’s not because Vito has stolen the Most Popular Italian title from his mate? He gives out 9s and 10s RELENTLESSLY and isn’t nitpicky with anyone…yet she had to have a point taken off.

I'm the same, the crop of "celebrities" this has been awful, made worse by the inclusion of a Love Island contestant. It's like they've run out of money or ideas, and the best dancer isn't going to win. It's getting to the point with this show that the winner is a foregone conclusion by Week 5 because everyone goes nuts for one of their dances and that's all everyone bangs on about (Hamza's salsa last year for example)

Just seen the spoiler. Looks like the emotional blackmail worked 🙄

After listening to Bobby I feel like it was definitely the producers who pushed for this. Especially when his focus seemed to be on how lucky he really was to have all he has (which no doubt Jade would be delighted with) but I definitely did feel like he didn't want to bring her up. It felt like he was dissociating afterwards a bit of I'm honest and I wonder did he get sold they idea that the dance wasn't really about his mum just that they were using her favourite song and he thought that was a nice idea?? I dunno if I'm explaining myself right at all!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I might have laughed if it wasn't disgusting of the beeb. They've done similar to Annabel (the Ghost film songs/twinkly lights).

You can argue that the celebs don't need to partake, but I blame BBC for abusing and manipulating the celebs in these situations

It wasn’t Jade’s favourite song. Jeff used to play it a lot and it became Bobby’s favourite. I feel the dance was more about Jeff than Jade and the lyrics of the song were written by Kate Bush for the film She’s Having a Baby and was about the male character. Sounds like Jeff to me as he obviously had to step up when Jade was dying.

No doubt Bobby wanted it to be about Jeff but the Producers intervened. He didn’t even mention Jade in his acceptance speech at the soap awards. He only mentioned Jeff.

I think if they are struggling to book Celebs, they need to look at themselves. Three months’ is a lot of time to block out of a diary … and the whole media circus around it is ridiculous. Long Lens photos through training room windows with nudge, nudge, wink, wink insinuations must put strain on people however much they know it’s rubbish.

Add to that the fact that sometimes they seem to forget they are dealing with real people, not Lego figures to push round for the sake of a story and ‘good’ TV and it’s no wonder they are making Eastenders read the small print of their contracts or having Breakfast presenters play rock, paper, scissors to see who gets to bulk the cast list out.

Sara Davies said she was meant to dance to a song from Six but she was eliminated the week before so it never happened. I’ve been waiting and hoping for that song choice to get used ever since. It didn’t happen last year but a song from that could suit Ellie. And I’m still holding out hope for them to finally remember that Hamilton exists and use something from that.

There’s so many brilliant musicals out there and I’d love the BBC to vary what they use rather than always picking the same musicals.

(Having said that, I’d love to see Nigel dancing an AT to Roxanne from Moulin Rouge if he’s still in. I don’t think it’s been used since Simon Webbe and it’s due another use.)
I'm so surprised they haven't used anything from Hamilton yet. I think a dance to something like Burn would be great.

I don't think they've ever used anything from Jersey Boys have they?

Just like with Movie week I'd like to see less obvious songs being chosen.

For Hamilton they would need both partner and pro to be POC really, so they can't use it with this crop but I'd love to see a viennese waltz to burn one day.

There are so many musicals out there and some excellent new ones in particular - please not the same old schtick as every year!
