I don't care if we're not getting jaw dropping dances at this stage, everyone bar two couples were a joy to watch. I honestly think the likes of Kelvin and Danny have spoiled some viewers and they expect WOW moments from the get go so anything that's simply good or pleasant to watch isn't enough... (But only if the media aren't ramming their dance training down our throats).

I don't see how Layton gets the "oh it's unfair" treatment from the same people who still give out that Ore won over Danny. Especially when Nigel, Angela S and Ellie all have previous dance training too, and Nigel has a hefty musical background given his age too.

Anyway. All this to say it's a shame this thread is a bit of a downer 🤣 it feels Almost uncool to say I'm really enjoying the show this year

I absolutely love strictly and I’m enjoying it so much.
I did compare it to a wake until Krishnan showed up last night but that’s because all the dances were so flat, people seemed deflated, everyone was making mistakes. Then it got really good!
I think that’s the thing with reality tv there are people you love to hate and that makes it interesting to watch. Not everyone is going to love everyone or every dance. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised by Zara she seems absolutely lovely but her dance last night was not good. I said the same about Nikita (contestant Nikita - not Nikita God of the dance floor) she was a lovely girl and I wish she’d done something like I’m a celeb so we could have seen more of her, but dance she could not.
Layton has an unfair advantage over the likes of Zara for example in a dance competition, he is a ringer in every single sense of the word but I adore watching him and Nikita dance and I think what Nikita does with their partnership is incredible and I voted for them last night.
Ore had one good dance - Danny Mac was robbed and that’s a hill I’m prepared to die on 🤣
I absolutely love this thread, no one is nasty, yea a bit snarky but it’s all good fun and we are all strictly fans.
I adore the show despite making the odd snarky comment here and there 😏
I do love a wow moment and I think we got one last night in Ellie’s dance.
 
Robbed. I still watch his dances on YouTube. Danny was a huge ringer but probably my all time fav contestant. His dances with Oti were incredible. I think Laytons on a level with him but sadly, he gets more hate because he’s flamboyant and not afraid to show it. He won’t win so just enjoy watching some professional level dancing 😁

Ellie is a fantastic dancer, I’ve been really surprised by her!

According to her Wiki they married in 2015 and divorced in 2018, the year she had Charles Venn.

In 2017 she had Simon Rimmer who wasn’t that great and they finished 11th.

In 2016 she had Will Young, who withdrew in week 3. She won the Children in Need Special with Lutalo Muhhamed and she did the Christmas special with Ainsley “well hellllllooo Jill” Harriet.

I don’t know which year they split and I don’t remember her being particularly distracted or low any of those series but she didn’t really get off the ground with Will ‘The Original Mardy Will’ Young

I think that was the year she was with Charles Venn … she did a lovely speech when they went out about how he had respected her as a teacher, a partner and a woman.
 
I definitely need to not watch this and read on here just before bed as I had a sex dream about Nikita last night. Quite disconcerting for a middle aged lesbian 😂 I think one of the most attractive things about him is his confidence and how comfortable he is in himself. Him and Layton are a fantastic partnership. I’m also trying to convince myself that he looks like a soft butch 😂

I haven’t really watched strictly properly for the last few years but I’m really enjoying this years. I barely remember some of them but there are ones I look forward to watching and will rewatch.

Layton and Nikita - I don’t really care about Layton being a ringer. They have amazing chemistry and Nikita looks to be having the time of his life with the choreography.

Ellie and Vito - they are a joy to watch and I hope they make it to the final.

Nigel and Katya - his nerves seem to trip him up (literally last night) but when he gets it right he’s fantastic.

Krishnan and Lauren - I could watch these two all day. His joy is infectious and she really seems to bring out the best in him.

Bobby and Dianne - they surprised me last night, I thought it was beautiful. He seems like a sweet kid who is enjoying himself.
 
We're all here because we're fans of Strictly, but I like the equal opportunities snarking too ;)

On that note, last night was so dull I was almost hoping for a shock boot to liven things up.

I like Nigel but I want to like him more, and I want him to be better than he has been since the first week. I'm not feeling too enthused about the win probably being between Nigel and the boy wonder, who is becoming so infatuated with Dianne that it's kind of awks to watch.

Come through Ellie, she should be in the final. I also thought Vito was going in for the snog at the end of their dance. Showmance or? 👀

What has happened to Angela S? She hasn't really lived up to expectations.

Krishnan is a joy, I just wish he was a better dancer so he could rival the contenders. Excuse me while I go all Tess like, but look at his little happy face 🥰

Annabel - needs more energy, good legs but needed more upper body charleston moves, still adore her!

Layton - wow! Deserved more 10. I also preferred him dancing as a bloke rather than camping up female pro face. Love his and Nikita's coupling, always excited to see their dance

Ellie - amazing! Although I think the toon could have been made more paso-fied. Deserved 10s.

Bobby - ghastly thermal vest, HOWEVER! It showed of his graceful flowy moves. It's the first time I've gotten almost teary over a dance, probably cos the performance was so unexpected.

Krishnan - his counting was distracting and it could have been better, but having not liked him the personality, I adore seeing him. His and Lauren's coupling is perfect.

Angela R - was hard to see in the blackness of the black. She did v well, but it wasn't enough pow for me. I would like her face or her eyes to do some acting, otherwise it freaks me out!

Yes her body moves but her face seems permanently frozen in the same expression. 😨

And he's in the same position as her too because Faye was a ringer as well but it's the person with the most dance experience that's always going to face the criticism.

I feel the same but didn't know how to word it, I completely acknowledge that Nigel, Angela S etc may have dance experience, but Layton's seems a lot more, and very recent too...if there were ringer categories he'd definitely be in a higher one

I think Nikita is one of the top pros.
He has been fabulous since he joined, imo.

I love that he can let loose so much dancing with Layton. They are perfectly matched, they obviously work really hard, and are thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Pure joy to watch.

Honestly that was one of the moments of the night for me. The joy!! I don't even know if that bit at the end was choreographed. Krishnan going from interviewing the Israeli ambassador and covering horrible news to.. this.. is everything. He must be protected until at least Blackpool!

Looking on the various FB groups it's interesting to see how much Beryl chat there is about Ellie and Vito - some even saying they now prefer Vito to Gio etc. A lot of talk about how she was undermarked, which I think will help her as it gives her a slight underdog vibe. I do wish the show hadn't put Layton on right after her as it kind of took away slightly and some of the other dances were a real slog. (For the record I don't really think Ellie was undermarked but more that maybe her and Layton should have been equal (and also Anton giving both her and Adam a 9 was an insult).
I saw James Jordan on Twitter (boke) saying it was a 9 for him as she was walking around a bit, though I wondered if Vito had put in a slower bit to give her a break, having admitted that last week he threw too much choreo in and she was a bit overwhelmed.

And for info, I looked up the fregolina, and it's the bit where Ellie danced behind his back while in hold - Vito claims nobody has done it on Strictly before (did he rewatch every paso, in which case, oh boy, when he got to John Sergeant..)

I was meh about him in his first series when he was trying to be the hot one, but seeing him in his 2nd series being an amazing teacher with Ellie, getting the best from her, being so invested in her won me over.
This series him showcasing Leyton's vast dance experience, whilst still teaching him, but then getting to perform himself like a pro too without taking it away from the celeb has been brilliant to watch.

I don't fancy any of the pros but I do want to be best friends with some of them IRL 🤣

I'm pretty sure they mean they want to download the song. I didn't rate the band's version of it though, the percussion and bass weren't mixed well enough so it sounded really ploddy.

Ooft, I will never not be disappointed by Eddie's dances. I still think he could be so good - if only Oti was still there, I feel she'd have been perfect for him.

Yes I thought that version was terrible, and not even sure it suited the dance that well. Eddie’s dance last night was such a let down, he really isn’t improving at all.
