Lovely, simple, elegant opening number, costumes perhaps a bit too simple.
Nigel - I didn't share a lot of people's optimism that it was going to be good. Katya should save her comedy routines for duffers. I think the costumes hindered them a bit because it was even worse than the rehearsal snippets which I didn't think looked all that great to begin with. Still, it was bad enough to be funny and I find myself rewatching it with a smile on my face, after the initial 'oh dear' reaction had passed. A bit disappointing for a proper contender to do a dance where the best bit was the Batusi, but it'll help his journey narrative.
Angela R - Kai as a peroxide blond 14 year old boy mincing about in curtain shorts with a blinding white rictus grin was so disconcerting I still haven't properly watched the dance. I simultaneously couldn't keep my eyes off him and couldn't look at him dead on, like some kind of Eldritch horror. Angela's wig was unspeakable as well.
Zara - Not too bad for a non-dancer but the poor thing is just all limbs she can't quite keep under control. I mostly liked the choreography and the routine picked up halfway though, a shame it wasn't that good all the way through. I hope she continues to improve. I'm conflicted about whether Graz looked adorable or terrifying as Puss.
Layton - Not quite as good as I was hoping, but still quite good. You can see his previous training is hindering him a bit here. He's so used to going all out and spinning about like a whirlybird by himself he's having trouble calming down and letting himself be led. Someone earlier in the thread compared him to Rhys, who managed to calm down and stop being so frenetic and spiky by the later stages of the competition, so hopefully Layton will be able to as well.
Angela S - I probably would have enjoyed it more if the song hadn't made me want to rip my ears off. Good, but not amazing, I thought 9s were a little much. She surprisingly managed to pull off that wig though.
Ellie - Loved it! Favourite dance of the night. Aww, Vito's proud, happy little face was so sweet. Think she and Angela should have swapped scores.
Amanda - I hated practically everything about that (the dress, the song, the acting) but annoyingly her footwork seemed really good to me. Think Craig's score was ridiculous, though it evens out as she was overscored last week.
Nikita - She seems a nice girl. Shame she's in a season with so many with dance experience, she might have had slightly better luck a different year.
Annabel - Pretty good but not quite as good as I was expecting her to be at a slow ballroom. She may have peaked week 1 due to the extra rehearsal time. A lot of faffing about in that routine. She wasn't bad but I really wish they'd saved such a good song and costume for someone really good.
Jody - I think he did a pretty decent job of performing for a non-actor, the character wavered a bit but he mostly sold it. A good effort considering his struggles this week.
Bobby - I find him so irritating, my eyes couldn't roll any harder at that VT without falling out of my head, so why did he have to have one of the best dances of the night, dammit! Even Dianne's choreography was better than usual. (I assume the lying down on the floor bit was something from the movie, haven't seen it in too long to remember.) His knight costume being a silly little scarf was so funny omg. But also, I'm crying foul, other people were stuck with more encumbering costumes. Anyway it's his first dance I've enjoyed, and the first one where it seemed he was putting in a reasonable amount of effort, so fair play to him.
Adam - As a The Magicians fan, the song is emotionally devastating to me (IYKYK) and now I have a new trauma to associate with it. That moustache, god, poor Luba! Dance was pretty decent considering the lack of rehearsal time, not that he needed to do much to do better than Nikita. Thought the scores were a bit much though, he should have been lower than Nigel, or at least equal.
Eddie - What was Shirley smoking with the 10? It was one of the best dances of the night, but come on. He did quite well but I don't think he looked totally comfortable, you could see him thinking about the steps. How did Karen look in that suit though?
Krishnan - I was hoping it would be iconic, and it was 90% of the way there for me, bless him. I wish he'd given it a tiny bit more oomph, but appreciate that's a pretty tall order from a 50 year old newsreader. He sold the character pretty well and did a solid if simple routine. And his emcee makeup suited him so much more than I thought it was going to!

Feel bad for poor Zara being in the dance off, hope it doesn't knock her confidence too much, I think she still has some potential to get better. Hoping Jody goes next week rather than him keep tempting fate with an injury. Glad poor Luba didn't go out dressed like that.
