I don't think knowing tons of the celebs is even important provided that it's a balanced cast and there are a few nostalgia names that people might recognise (even if not that relevant any more, like Matt). It's only one factor. The 3 criteria to use on whether or not someone is a good casting IMO is if they're a good dancer, a good personality on the show and if people know them. Most are missing one or maybe two of those but that's fine. If you're missing all three, that's maybe a casting mistake and they've had a few of those over the years.

Who would you say was a casting mistake? I’m not trying to provoke a fight but just interested to know!

This series is two episodes in and already dying with the wokeness turning people off. The ratings are down a lot from the same episodes last year. This isn't a group of girls or boys in a club dancing with their mates. It's professional dancing and it's known for men and women dancing with one another. It's not homophobic to say it. Same sex couples won't work and will only harm ratings. Ellie I am sure she will give it her all but she will struggle in hold and Nikita will end up with a bad back from crouching more than a jockey does. The line up is really poor too. They always have come out last who the producers see as the star of the series and so it's been Matt Goss. Most famous for a 35 year old song wrote by two guys for him and his brother and has been hidden out of the limelight in America for most of the time since.
Personally I found the lineup this year the best in ages. I knew who all but about 3 of them are and the only one I really don't like at all is Richie as I find him annoying on the radio. Didn't know the DJ bloke or the woman from BGT or whatever it was. I love them trying new things (if you think it's a serious dance competition then you've clearly never watched it, it's always been about popularity and performance). I really enjoy them trying out different things and was very excited about how dances would work with Ellie S, she's a fabulous young woman and her inclusion is well worth a watch whether it works out or not. Same sex coupling has been a thing in the dance world forever and adds another difference to the competition, I enjoy watching the swap of lead etc. You may not like inclusion but many of us do plus I don't want to watch the same show every year, it would be boring. Also, as already said, TV viewing figures are down throughout. It's a show I'm hearing being talked about as much this year as others.

Vick Hope immediately springs to mind as someone who missed all 3. Katie McGlynn from last year maybe as well - not a big enough name to make up for missing the other two factors.

i’d forgotten that vick hope ever did strictly!

i think the audience will forgive a lot for someone who is a good personality and a decent dancer, even if they don’t really know who they are. a contestant just needs to be able to make a connection with the audience (which both vick and katie just didn’t do).

a) No they don’t.

b) Fleur danced last on Saturday.

c) Are you the poster who thought Rose is blind?
Yes, it is the same poster who said Rose was blind, and the same one who's made multiple posts about hoping Katya is dating her friend Aimee. I had assumed they just thought they'd make a cute couple, but now they're complaining about wokeness and saying same-sex dancing can't work despite John and Johannes coming second last year, I guess they're actually just a creep who thinks lesbians are hot but shouldn't have equal rights. 🤮

Kaye: Mainly known to the unemployed, those on maternity leave or obscure work shifts. Not a prime time star.

I am none of those things and know who Kaye is. It may have escaped your notice but since the pandemic a lot of people work from home now rather than go in the office. I always have daytime tv on in the background whilst I’m working from home, full time 08:30am - 5:00pm weekdays

Yes clearly as I have mentioned ratings being half they used to be so plenty feel that the Z listers and wokeness is a big turn off. It's probably had it's day and needs resting for a bit like X Factor is.

Wokeness? What do you mean by that exactly? Are you annoyed at the inclusion of people with disabilities? Or different sexual orientation? Or skin colour?
If that’s what Strictly going woke actually means then I’m all for it.

Yeah Vick Hope wasn’t great. I seem to remember after she left the papers saying she burnt her bridges at the BBC by being a diva or complaining about something but now she’s on drive time on radio 1 so not bad. And engaged to Calvin Harris!

I think she was someone who was expected to be better than she was by everyone including herself. When a young, fit, attractive female has little to no inherent dancing ability it seems to take people aback. She also had Graziano in his first year, and Vick, the ex-Language student (speaking French, Spanish and Portuguese?) said she found the language barrier with the Italian hard to overcome.

Sadly every online discussion attracts a professional contrarian who likes to subject everyone to the benefit of their ‘anti-everything’ superiority.

It’s as tediously predictable as the occupations of the Strictly celebs each year 😁

I do feel that before they announce the line up, every year we know we’ll get an
Eastenders cast member
Radio DJ
Retired sports star
Children’s presenter
Ex Soap star
Someone from ITV’s morning shows
Stand Up Comedian
Paralympian

And this year they’ve ticked every box.

Always - but as they’re aiming to cast people known to a wide range of the public, there are only so many occupations they can draw from. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe one year they’ll cast a really famous chess grandmaster? 😁

I think we've found Allison Pearsons Tattle account!

The overall vibe I'm getting from this series is very much 'let's get back to normal ' - a pretty standard Strictly line up, a full studio, and to me their doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary about having same sex couples in the line up - it's almost as if they're now as much a part of Strictly as Tess's inability to deliver a punchline (in a good way though)

In 2022, trying to kick up a stink about same sex couples (in third year of casting) and disabled contestants (in sixth year of casting) is probably just desperate attention seeking

I used to be one of those people who wished there were two Strictlys a year.
I started itching to know the line up in June and felt impatient from that moment until the announcements began.

This year, I wasn't excited to hear the line up.
Why? Because I have realised I can enjoy the show more if I don't know who is on it.
Also, I learned that I prefer it when I still don't know who they are after the announcements.
I can get to know them as the weeks go by and I enjoy that more.

Having said that, when the show started this year, I actually forgot to record or watch it.
I have now seen both episodes via I player.

Now I remember why I am no longer as eager as I used to be to watch it.

One of the singers has a voice that spoils my enjoyment of the live music.
Jason Gilkison's choreography in the group numbers spoiks my enjoyment, too. I find his routines crowded, messy and unimaginative.

I know this is just my personal feelings, but I just thought I'd post anyway to put forward my reasons for not watching because my reasons are different to those suggested up thread for the dropping off of viewers.

If they replaced that singer and if they replaced that choreographer, I would probably get excited and eager to watch it again.
