This series is two episodes in and already dying with the wokeness turning people off. The ratings are down a lot from the same episodes last year. This isn't a group of girls or boys in a club dancing with their mates. It's professional dancing and it's known for men and women dancing with one another. It's not homophobic to say it. Same sex couples won't work and will only harm ratings. Ellie I am sure she will give it her all but she will struggle in hold and Nikita will end up with a bad back from crouching more than a jockey does. The line up is really poor too. They always have come out last who the producers see as the star of the series and so it's been Matt Goss. Most famous for a 35 year old song wrote by two guys for him and his brother and has been hidden out of the limelight in America for most of the time since.

Found a site to watch the US one on, and I'm absolutely on the floor laughing at how happy Gleb looks in contrast to poor Gio. He's giving Richie-like levels of energy, bouncing around like an excited toddler at the end of the dances and when they get the scores.

Meanwhile Gio out here like

Of course, he's got a lot more to be happy about with a ringer/contender, but he seems so much more comfortable in general.

That said, I hope the Gio/Richie partnership eventually gels better, because he's not a totally hopeless case, I think there's potential for improvement.

i mean, to be fair, i don’t think this show has EVER claimed to be about “professional dancing”, the very first series had christopher parker in the final after all.

it’s a saturday night bbc entertainment show, no deeper than that. it essentially is people “dancing with their mates” or at least a celebrity dancing with a professional. i can’t in any way see how a same sex couple would affect ratings. the tango was originally a two man dance anyway, the show is high camp as it is, your average strictly viewer has already sat through some incredible stuff. two men or women dancing together isn’t going to be the final straw unless you’re a high level daily mail reader, in which case this article already speaks to you 🤣 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ballroom dancing is well known for women dancing with women because of a shortage of men. In competitions too, they wear matching dresses often.

Let's not forget the Argentine Tango was a dance for two men. I really don't think that many people are bothered by same sex pairings or go to Strictly to see traditional ballroom dancing. Same sex couples worked well enough for John and Johannes to get to the finals last year with some very well acclaimed dances, so saying they won't work is a bit lost on me when it's proven they have.

Tbh tho, easy to switch off when somebody starts complaining about "wokeness" as if diversity and representation is such a terrible thing.

How come the Anne Widdecombe/Anton partnership isn't proof that opposite-sex dancing doesn't work?

And a person with dwarfism came second on the German one last season, and fifth on the American one several years ago.

The ratings for Strictly used to be huge. The last few years it's been around half as many viewers since it's ruined the format to try and be more inclusive. It's not helped by the line up.....

STRICTLY-2022-4308549.webp

Ellie Simmonds: On her way down from her career high at London 2012.

Ellie Taylor: Probably best known to most people for her bit part on Mash Report on a obscure satellite channel.

Fleur East: Eight years since her career high of being second on X Factor.

Hamza: Who? Really is barrel scraping.

Helen: They mention most of all her being a former Blue Peter presenter. She left that nine years ago.

James: Currently on his career high and on TV regularly.

Jayde: Ask someone to name a comedian and you'd be lucky if they named her. Heck make it easier and tell someone to list female comedians and most probably still wouldn't name her.

Kaye: Mainly known to the unemployed, those on maternity leave or obscure work shifts. Not a prime time star.

Kim: Fairly big name as she's up to recently done a long stint on one of the biggest soaps in the country.

Matt: His prime years were nearly 40 years ago. In recent times probably best known for getting naked on Celebrity Juice.

Molly: Best known for being a kid on BGT a decade ago.

Richie: Most wouldn't have recognised him in a police line up. Bit part voice on a radio show.

Tony: Had his prime three decades ago. More recently just a flop Football manager.

Tyler: Works on a small time radio station that gets very few listeners compared to Radio 1, Radio 2, Heart, Capital etc.

Will: Decent standard of name. Got a very strong CV of shows he's been on. Hope he wins it.

bless you for writing all that out but they never exactly get a-listers. the only way to do this show is to be able to commit to weeks of training and giving up most weekends, someone who’s career is on the up isn’t going to be able to or want to do that.

and sure, you don’t know who they all are. i didn’t know who some of them were either. but you were still able to write a decent mini cv for each of them, so they’ve done something relevant at least 🤷🏼‍♀️

🙄 You do understand that watching Strictly isnt compulsory and other channels are available?

This is a show that has had Bruno purring Scccccooooottttt not to mention all the rest of his totally unsubtle innuendo’s, Brendan literally vamping it up to whatever soft rock classic the Beeb could get the rights to, Len pickling his walnuts and threatening to show his buttock cheeks in Woolworths window, Russel Grant being fired out of cannon with 1000 sparkles, Arlene just wanting raw sex, Julian Clary and his maracas and just about every dance Erin ever choreographed.

You just know that if Strictly had been a thing in The 1970’s we would have had one or more of John Inman doing a hilarious Cha Cha to The Streak set in a Department Store, Danny La Rue in full rig doing a stately Charleston to On Mother Kelly’s doorstep, Dick Emery as Mandy doing a couples choice to ‘Mandy’ and John Noakes doing a quickstep to ‘Get down Shep’*

Strictly is the same as it always would have been, was and is.

(* is it wrong to want this episode to exist other than inside my head)

Yes clearly as I have mentioned ratings being half they used to be so plenty feel that the Z listers and wokeness is a big turn off. It's probably had it's day and needs resting for a bit like X Factor is.

I think the thing to remember with viewing figures is that they are down in general anyway. From what I can gather, while the numbers may be down the percentage share watching as live was the same … and we haven’t had the consolidated figures with the catch ups yet.

a) No they don’t.

b) Fleur danced last on Saturday.

c) Are you the poster who thought Rose is blind?
