I’m also not sure he’d want to compete with Vito (who’s a much better dancer and has a fresher vibe). Idk, he just seems over it.

I wouldn't be shocked if this were his last season. Apparently he's not doing the tour in Jan (his own tour clashes with it), and he is one of the less engaged pros on social media about the series. OTOH as people have said, without an ongoing presence on SCD every year surely your own audience slips away? He may have other big plans.

I am not unhappy with Vito being groomed to be the new Gio. He def got a lot of positive attention on Twitter on Saturday night!

Neither would I, I would absolutely hate it though. I really hope he goes out on a slightly higher note than this one... 😭

I loved Sara and Aljaz's partnership last year, but I still really wish he'd done one more year and gotten someone really good. Can't handle Gio leaving too, especially after what looks like it'll be a trainwreck of a next few weeks.

There’s always some in the wings to be ‘The Next’. Gio was The Next Vincent and now Vito is The Next Gio.

It doesn’t matter if they’re nothing like each other just so long as their Celeb and teach them how to say ‘Roly poly’ or ‘hot pot’ it’s all good in Strictly world.

Anton had his wake-up call to the harsh reality of how Strictly works in series one and never took it seriously after that. I’ll never forget him basically laughing in James’ face on the It Takes Two John Sargent special.

Anton always realised it was also an entertainment show and if he knew there he was no way of winning he went out to entertain. Anton has always got the spirit of Strictly.
 
I really loved the Gio/Rose partnership but it’s a new year and it’s nice to see new folks, new partnerships, same as I felt watching others I’ve loved over the years.

I think a couple of other factors haven’t helped- the return of the Clauditorium means you can see people a lot more on display rather than sat at the tables. It’s been ages since we’ve had it and I can’t really remember if everyone used to stand in their couples or not, and I guess a lot of the public can’t either.

R&G also had a pile of awards events/comic relief and some other stuff so their partnership was more elongated than most others, so it’s still in a lot of people’s minds more than normal.

I hope Richie has a lovely time even though I find him irritating AF as he’s a nice lad and is very excited. I’m surprised there hasn’t been any social media posts/comments only because Gio seems to pretty much live and die by his PR lady and I can’t think a trashy Sun article about him looking a bit of a petulant child is the press they want off the back of last year.

She gives me Alison Hammond vibes, even down to the flat-footedness. Hopefully she can lighten her feet in later dances should she remain in the competition.

Ah, so not really indicative of how the public voting patterns would go if it’s just a poll of DT’s website visitors rather than the wider voting public (who, let it not be forgotten, kept Widdy in for bloody aeons!)

I ‘knew’ DT back in my former DS days (and back in the days when he used to crib the spoiler from Monaogg’s DS spoiler thread). The spoiler generally comes from a audience ‘mole’ (which is why there were a few missing spoilers during the covid series), but as far as I know he doesn’t have any inside ‘scoop’ on the phone votes (though he does play up the ‘insider connections’ shtick as he likes to maximise his website clicks due to the massive amount of ads he runs on there).

Anton knows what side his bread is buttered, he's always moved the way Strictly demanded.
  • You want trad ballroom? You get trad ballroom, no problem.
  • You want him to laugh at Brucie and Tess' jokes, and Craigs' occassional cruelties? Anton flashes his teeth like a hyena.
  • Take on the duffers? No problem, Anton gets paid just the same, and more time in December for panto, everyone wins!
  • Less ballroom, more Latin, they say? Here, have Ruth Langsfords' Samba, be careful what you wish for.
  • Same sex partnerships? Anton loves them, especially rumbas! (though being serious, his championing of John Waites' rumba was v. sweet)
  • Oh, it's COVID, Bruno can't be here and there is an increasing focus on Contemporary Dance? Here is your faithful servant Anton, selflessly prepared to resign as pro and be a nice cheerful judge on both a temporary (and permanent) basis, what a good friend to Strictly Anton is!
