He's also an actor , so you would assume he's more comfortable selling the story of the dance straight out of the gate even if the technique is lacking. He's already got more performance skills to draw on than the cheeky-chappie sportsman or newsreader or politician types

I agree on that: it's an ugly lift at the best of times, doing it in week one after only a couple weeks training is absurdly dangerous, especially when it's the person who is doing the lifting who is the amateur, and both Dianne and the show producers should have known better.

If you're going to do a lift early in the competition in your American Smooth, how about the sane, safe and supported one as shown at the very end of Ali Bastians' American Smooth, memorably described by Mr Monkseal back in the day as "The Floating Shiitake Mushroom Lift". Look how elegant it is! Look how controlled the move is. She's not been flung up over his head like a sack of spuds in grave danger of crashing to the floor, she's being supported at waist and knee by her partner, twirled easily, and set back down gracefully. Easy(ish). Pretty. Safe.

The show has had a good run of casting random celebs and then it turns out to be enjoyable, so I hope this series continues the trend

she’s obviously a decent dancer with natural rhythm but i don’t think they’ll be able to overcome the slight awkwardness of it. and that’s no one’s fault at all, there’s some things that you just can’t work around. i wonder how the ballroom will look. i agree with you that nikita has to get out of the habit of naturally reaching for her back and aiming higher.

I agree. The height difference is so extreme it automatically makes you think 'father and child' so I don't see how a lot of the dances will work. All power to her though.

yep. and it’s a thing that really can’t be worked around (without being directly patronising to her i suppose) - they’re very likeable together and she was great last night, but i just don’t know. there’s so many dances i’m picturing (the rhumba or the waltz for two) and just wondering how it’s going to work. i’m sure they have plans for all of them though, i just need to see a ballroom.

I know some people are a bit jaded at the thought of Helen having a sob story, but her ex really is in the #menaretrash camp. She has a baby who’s not even 1, and seems to be getting on with it (although I’m sure we’ll get an emotional VW to ‘You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman’).

I think Gio thought he wanted be part of it but cannot behave normally with a partner just teaching- he's so used to creating this fake are they/arent they set up he's at abit of a loss with Richie. He doesnt want to flirt with him but thats a huge part of his persona
 
I was out last night so just caught up with the show. Helen was great but I think Will could be the winner. He’s got great personality. Also love Hazma. Top three for me, I’d bet on them being in the final! And maybe Ellie S if there are 4!

Oh and Danny Mac was robbed, in case it came up in the thread last night and I missed it 🤣 I did miss Oti, she’s always been my favourite pro!

I think Gio could've got away with a bit of light flirting with a male celeb if the male celeb wasn't likely to jump his bones in response. But I think Richie could be more obsessed with a flirty Giovanni than Sara Davies is with Aljaz.
