I also think it’s time for Tess to go but let’s be honest would she ever get another gig? She’s hardly the best presenter out there she knows she got it cushy at strictly, does she ever do anything for the rest of the year? She’s going nowhere unless she gets given the boot although it wouldn’t surprise me if she has a non sackable clause in her contract 😂
I don’t mind Tess really … she keeps things moving along which is her main function, she‘s a link with the early days, seems to be supportive behind the scenes and gets the show.

Do you think that maybe it’s mainly women who vote, and they tend to vote for who they fancy? I can see in Tony’s case, for example, that he might get some dedicated Arsenal fans voting, where they wouldn’t normally bother. But I wonder what the demographic is for people who do actually bother to vote? I don’t suppose there’s any way of knowing really.
It’s definitely a popularity contest as much as a talent one; but that’s always going to be the case with a show where there’s a public vote involved.
I definitely think that’s part of it. I’d say (without any evidence to back this up lol) that women do make up the majority of voters and this year for example Will Mellor will be getting a lot of votes for being fanciable. I don’t think it’s always enough to get them the win, but it doesn’t hurt.

I agree with everyone here, it’s time for a shake up. For me, who sees themselves as a strictly expert having watched every year 😉 I would suggest:

- Max 12 celebs, it only now that the shows aren’t seeming like a total slog
- Sort the pros out. Stop picking from a pool of so you think you can dance winners and go back to proper ballroom and Latin champions etc
- swerve couples choice
- Bring back a 50/50 split on ballroom and Latin each week and leave Argentine tango and Charleston until the quarter final
- 2 themes a year- Halloween and then one that changes every year
- get rid of the VTs we don’t need them
Plus I think the pros need to be spoken to ...all the gushing over use of the word proud and the really over the top leaping about after they dance. I get that they are pleased etc etc but reign it in a bit!

I’ve watched since series 1 and I agree with all of the above.

I’d add:

Get rid of Gilkinson and his LSD-addled pro dances. Go back to the pros doing recognisable ballroom/Latin routines and showcasing the moves that should be seen in each dance

Have a standard content requirement for each dance: for example, you can’t call it it cha cha (and be awarded a 10) for a couple of lock steps and a New Yorker.

Stop prodding everyone into sobbing about how it’s the greatest experience of their lives, wah wah wah. It’s dancing on the telly for money and a career boost 🙄

yep.

i think women are also really harsh on other women in general. you get a lot of “oh i just don’t like her” or “there’s just something about her” - a female contestant has to be good but not too good, gracious, quiet but not too quiet, nice but not sickly sweet etc. men can just be charming.

I'd agree with most of the changes listed but slight unpopular opinion, I'd rather stick with somewhere between 14 & 16 celebs. I feel like they need to cover all bases in terms of age, ability and professions in the cast. 12 celebs also means a shortened run and that leads to a 2020 style situation where some of them skip almost all of the dances that they aren't good at. In addition, 12 celebs means we'd have to ditch some pros and would also leave us with less space to add in new pros.

A suggestion though to make the first week or two easier - bring back the two night premiere. They had half of the celebs on the Friday and half on the Saturday on Week 1 until 2016.

Same here. I don't mind her either.
I wouldn't mind her if she didn't keep trying to contribute to the conversation when the judges are giving their feedback. Her shrieking 'so do youuu!'to Anton last night was infuriating like shut the duck up Tess no-one is talking to you!
And the 'aw bless' stuff is so bloody patronising especially with Hamza just because he says thank you to the comments. What does she expect him to do, pull a Brendan?! 🙄

I think there is always an assumption that female celebs, rightly or wrongly, bring With them a past history of dance lessons … doubled for females working in the music industry.

i hate that she does that to hamza. and it seems to be been every week too - it comes across as so condescending when he’s just being polite.

she has a difficult role (as opposed to claudia who can have a joke and a connection with the couples) but it seems like she still hasn’t quite judged the best way to do it.

is It just me that imagines Jayde sat in the training room waiting for a Karen to come so they can do an AmyandTom … but Karen has packed an overnight bag and is off for a Pamper And Prosecco weekend.
i read that as Pampers and Prosecco, which would be totally different! (possibly involving Aljaz and Janette)

I feel quite gutted for Fleur, on her birthday, to know she's not liked much. Over on DS they are tearing her apart, and Vito, who apparently needs to be axed. I agree with whoever said that Jenny Thomas needs to go, and Jason G. and get fresher choreographers in.
ETA:apparently the decision to save was unanimous so at least Shirley saw sense!
