I’d suggest binning Couple’s Choice. It’s pointless, as no matter which of the genres a couple chooses (street/commercial, jazz/theatre or contemporary) it generally involves a lot of ‘acting’ and running about manically whilst gurning at the camera.

A lot of the time, if I miss the announcement, I can’t tell which of the three they’ve chosen. I go by if they aggressively jump up and down a lot from one foot to the other and/or spin around on their back then it’s the first, layers of make up and clothing with lots of props and hats or sticks involved is jazz/theatre and anything involving barefoot fannying around in floaty clothes being miserable is contemporary.

Obviously there have been a couple of good Couple’s Choice dances (actually can only think of Gio and Faye’s), but on the whole they, for me, are very meh.
 
I am strictly obsessed. I move social things so I can watch it on Saturday night. I love the build up, I love the live shows and I love it takes two, especially when it’s rylan. But this year I don’t get excited about a single couple… I just haven’t got anyone who makes my hair stand on end. Yes I like Hazma, Tony and Tyler but they don’t excite me. And I always always forget Helen. And I miss Alijaz. And I hate Halloween. And (controversial) I don’t really like Ellie S on this. Sorry Ellie… Oh big surprise is that Jowita is a real fave. That’s all for now 👋🏻

Spreading the dances about just seems like such an easy thing to get right, so why do they keep cramming the same ones into one show?

Have we even had a good old bog standard waltz yet this year?

ETA - there have only been TWO Waltzes up to and including last night, that’s crazy! Ellie and Nikita had one on week two and Molly and Carlos had one on week three

I'm pretty much the same. I missed two weeks in a row this year and I'm not that fussed.

I actually always forget tyler is there. But he should be more exciting! Love Hamza but honestly don't care if gets swindled and loses. I don't know why i feel this way. Tony ftw just to give the producers a kick up the hole. Also I want to be his mate

Definitely the right result and it saves me having to write to Points of View about a potential vote rigging incident 😉.

Not such a great birthday for Fleur. I don’t know what it is that people don’t like about her but I don’t think it’s because she’s a “strong woman” as there have been loads of them in the Strictly ballroom over the years. I don’t even think it’s the dance skill (she’s definitely a good dancer imo) maybe the intensity of it? Or maybe it’s just a case of people just putting their votes elsewhere 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree, just cannot muster any enthusiasm this year.

I just wish Ellie S would bloody shut up sometimes. I get she is excited but she rabbits on constantly. When they are in the Clauditorium and Claudia is talking to Nikita you can still hear Ellie mumbling on about something out of vision 😂

This isn’t new. It always has been a popularity contest, right from Christopher Parker getting to the final in series 1. Every year, without fail, better dancers leave ahead of contestants who get through on a wave of public support. The likes of John Sargeant, Anne Widdicombe and Ed Balls are probably the most obvious cases, but there are so many more examples.

The BBC make no attempt to ensure that it’s a ‘proper’ dance contest: it’s a light entertainment show themed around celebrities learning to dance, but given that there are decades of age difference between the oldest and the youngest contestants each year, the stupid themes/costumes/CGI and inappropriate music, and the exhortation to ‘vote for your favourite’, there’s no pretence that the show aims to promote ability over entertainment value. 🤷‍♀️

But I guess that’s what they’ve been doing with other contestants all along. I think week 5 should be where we start to see the 8s for the better couples. The Judges are ballsing up the leaderboard but I bet the producers love it because (they think) it brings an added sense of drama! It’s true what they say, we should vote for the people we want to stay for whatever reason.

I genuinely thought Tony’s dance was one of the better ones last night. Quite difficult choreography and the QS can be unforgiving. I thought he’d get 6,7,7,7 but that was based on previous comments he’d got. And he does have that obvious improvement whereas I think Helen, Molly, Tyler and Will seem to be going sideways improvement wise rather than up. Kym is improving, Hamza is improving, Fleur is improving. Ellie T and Ellie S are definitely getting better but I feel like I say every week “this is the week they’ll blow the Judges socks off…” but it’s not coming. Same with James, improvements but he’s not setting the Heather alight for me either (I can’t get my phone to not capitalise Heather - I really hope he’s not setting her on fire)
