Some of my thoughts from last night -
Was nice to see Tony have a break from being the joke act, but annoyed it was passed onto JoJo and Ellie. I don’t understand why there needs to be a joke act each week.

Kim is a miserable moaner, fed up of hearing how hard training is with work. But I did think she did a good samba.

I thought Hamza was going to be crap when I saw he was doing the samba but he was amazing. He has rhythm.

James and Will were both crap. Fed up of each week Will having to be doing his dance for someone. If he stays next week he will be doing it for the neighbours dog!

Jayde and Ellie S are over marked week after week.

Fluer was very good this week.

Didn’t like the couples choice but never do. I do like Tyler though.

The rest were pretty forgettable.

I don't get the fuss about what gorka said. Every year we have to listen to celebs sob stories to garner sympathy and votes in those reels they run before taking to the floor.
They show celebs at home staring at a pic of their mum 'my mum died when I was 9' or 'my grandad was my world but passed away on my cats birthday' or 'this was my dead nans favourite show. Me and her were dead close you know'

But that's the celeb saying it and their choice to talk about it. Gorka took that choice from Helen. That's the difference here - his intentions were good I'm sure, but let her bring it up if she wants to.

for me, i think it’s more that it isn’t his sob story and that he (however well-intended) shared it, in detail, without helen knowing he was going to do it. if she’d stood there and said all this stuff herself then that’s different and goes in with your post (which i agree with!)

Remember when they used to make some of the audience swap seats to make it look different? Not sure if they still do it, I'm not paying that much attention but also on the judges side the audience aren't as close to the dance floor as they used to be.

But they have to give people that day off on a Sunday even though the pros don't get much of one as they spend the day choreographing the next dance if they're still in.
The year I was there, it was quite a small amount of the general public in the audience and it isn’t that big anyway. In the old layout, all those behind the judges were producers guests, those you saw the couples waving to on the way up the stairs were guests of the dancers (I think) and they would move about those opposite the judges depending who was dancing.

At that time there was I think 24 seats at the opposite end of the dancefloor from the band, they were from the public queue, those who had been waiting the longest (the guy at the front had been waiting since 11pm on the Friday night!)

But what I’m leading up to is I think there will be less and less public in but that still won’t guarantee the results won’t get out

Regarding the BBC theme music for next week, I would simply refuse to perform unless they gave me either the music from the 1995 Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice to waltz to, or the sung part of the Red Dwarf theme to do a party Latin dance to, because its a genuine bop, and very danceable.

the red dwarf theme is an absolute bop!

there’s some decent music they could pick from if they went a little more obscure, but you know it’s all going to be the theme from eastenders or doctor who 🤣

I don’t think anyone has a problem with the sentiment - it’s the fact that Helen was clearly blindsided and has consciously kept her personal issues private, so having it sprung on her like that was obviously a massive shock, however good Gorka’s intentions.

Ooh yes, I would love to see a dance to the Red Dwarf theme. Best not give it to Amy tho, flashbacks of DJJ and all 😅

I think it was spur of the moment on Gorka’s part and probably came from frustration at the Judges comments and scores. There are couples who are fawned over and overmarked and couples who are picked up on technicalities and undermarked. It’s ‘his’ dance and I think he thought it would be Helen’s breakthrough.

I don’t think for a second it didn’t come from anywhere but a good place, he seemed really frustrated. I hope it doesn’t damage their professional or personal relationship though
Yes I agree he was clearly really proud of this dance and was buzzing about it all week if you watched stories and even Gemma was bigging it up all week. There was a lot of content in that dance and she did really well in a lot of it but it wasn’t really mentioned and the judges banged on about her confidence when I’m sure they know why it’s on the floor!
The woman’s husband left her when their baby was just born and this week when her baby isn’t even one yet and he’s having another baby and that was only announced during the week. God love her and I’m sure Gorka has been a huge support for her this week and hears people banging on about having the cold when her whole world has been flipped upside down this week!
There are people like Jayde who in my opinion don’t dance anywhere near as well as Helen who are getting extra marks for having confidence and being brave for going out and dancing and setting foot on the floor and Helen deserves just as much praise for what she’s been through this week alone never mind her dancing. No wonder Gorka was frustrated and stuck up for her when she did so well and just got comments about her confidence. He’s a nice guy and a family man and I think that’s clear to see and after growing so close to her is probably disgusted with the ex but also knows she needs a confidence boost not to be knocked by the judges and undermarked by the judges for not having confidence and wanted to boost her publicly and say his piece too! Sorry that’s so long 🤣

I think she knew what he was going to say and just reacted like she blindsided so her ex wouldn't be able to jump on it.Very clever of her and gorka. Great reverse psychology to look like you weren't expecting it . That's just my view though. It's not that deep and I don't care enough to analyse in great depth .

And my issue is that Helen really doesn’t seem the type to even want a sob story…..she’s a very ”get on with it” type and although she must be devastated inside, she really does not want anyone feelin ‘sorry’ for her…..plus as I said previously, do not give that cockwomble of an ex any airtime…..

I agree that Gorka meant well but went on too long. If he’d just said ‘it’s been a hard week’, fine. There was also a weird bit where he said something about her needing to believe in herself which sounded a wee bit scold-y. Didn’t help that he had a face on him during the scores.

I know people don’t like Kym but she didn’t use her dad’s illness (he’s just started cancer treatment but it’s basically terminal). Maybe that will come up in future..

If we have to have centenary week, I really really really want to see the following:

A samba to the Grange Hill theme tune
A jive to the Blankety Blank theme tune
A couples choice to the BBC News theme tune (a la Bill Bailey’s rave version of it)
A rumba to the Bird of a Feather theme tune
A cha cha to the Homes under the Hammer theme tune
A Viennese Waltz to the Howard’s Way theme tune
A salsa to the Antiques Roadshow theme tune
A Paso Doble to the Mastermind theme tune

It’s going to be tit, so let’s make it gloriously tit.

The DS mole revealed some of next week's dances which were announced tonight apparently. Some mental choices for BBC Centenary week o_O
Jayde & Karen dancing Charleston to Victoria Wood’s Ballad Of Barry & Freda

Ellie & Johannes dancing to Casualty theme tune

Will & Nancy have Viennese Waltz

James & Amy have Foxtrot (this is likely to be to Eastenders theme tune as in the ‘next week’ VT an Eastenders Foxtrot & Doctor Who Tango were mentioned)

Tony & Katya are doing Cha Cha to Grandstand theme tune

Molly & Carlos have Couple’s Choice
I expected nothing less than this to be absolutely unhinged, and it sounds like it will be delivering 😂.

I had a feeling about Kym's mid-table position, so chucked a vote her way. She got Fleur'ed. Glad Matt at least went out on a high
