Want to see Tyler do an Argentine Tango or a Paso next week.
Now Ina, don’t be mean. It’s not Tyler’s fault he agreed to do Strictly the year he was running the marathon and his brother was getting married in Mauritius. No, next week he will have a rumba where he’s allowed to stand totally still and occasionally wave his arms around for which he will be rewarded with a 10 from Shirley for simply existing 😉

I get the impression Gorka expected more from that dance and was disappointed with the judges comments. I think he maybe felt Helen could have put a bit more into it. Maybe she was better in rehearsals and didn’t do as well on the night? It did seem lacking in energy from her; the end bit where was dancing alone felt really awkward and lacklustre to me.
When he first started talking, I thought he was going to have a pop at her. “I know you’re having a difficult time….but that was gash”

I thought them not talking about it was the better way imo - I don’t think she would want sympathy votes. And she was trying really hard not to cry, maybe she’s worried that if she starts she won’t stop. I thought that was poor from Gorka tbh, I didn’t expect that from him

Yeah I have to say Gorka saying that really banged of trying to get rhe sympathy vote. Part of me doesn't blame him because they were all going on about their colds and not having time to practice while she had to shake off some serious personal tit and get down to business. That said she clearly wasn't expecting him to say it. Not cool imo.

i’ve got back and forth on it tbh!

i definitely think she doesn’t want sympathy votes but maybe gorka felt like he should say something as the dance hadn’t gone as well as he expected - but he obviously did it on the fly with no warning to helen, which i did think was bad form (even though his intentions were good). because he did it without thinking through what he was going to say, and in his second language in fairness, it just went on for too long and helen was obviously uncomfortable and trying to stop herself crying. i did feel for her, however good a gesture it was intended to be. if he wanted to say something like that, he should have run it by her first.

watching it again this morning i have no idea why they didn’t completely cut the music on the flamenco part, or why they had helen dance on a table where the panels almost hid her feet. it was very awkward.

I didn’t see Helen’s dance, and if Gorka went for a sympathy vote then that’s a shame.
And I’m a bit tired of all the tugging at the heart strings; I’d rather it was just a fun, dance show.
But if he was genuinely trying to pay tribute to her, then hopefully Helen will see that, and let’s face it; he’s not the one who has behaved like an absolute snake - that would be her ex.

I think it was spur of the moment on Gorka’s part and probably came from frustration at the Judges comments and scores. There are couples who are fawned over and overmarked and couples who are picked up on technicalities and undermarked. It’s ‘his’ dance and I think he thought it would be Helen’s breakthrough.

I don’t think for a second it didn’t come from anywhere but a good place, he seemed really frustrated. I hope it doesn’t damage their professional or personal relationship though

Yes, i think there are levels of poor behaviour when it comes to Helen and Strictly, and Gorka cack handedly trying to boost her confidence her when he was probably been around her all week is the very least of it, when her ex's girlfriend is crying to the papers about how wronged she is!

I'm a bit back and forth on it too, but mostly I just think it was a well-meant, heartfelt gesture on the spur of the moment, and that he just wanted to acknowledge that he understood why she was lacking in confidence, but he did believe she had it in her. A bit misjudged in the moment perhaps, but i applaud his intentions

She did look a bit uncomfortable to begin with, but she seemed ok once he'd finished (and they both seemed very happy on Helen's stories after)

i hope it doesn’t too - to be fair, i think on reflection she’ll see that he meant well and it was coming from a good place. as said above, she has so much else going on that having people in her corner who are preparing fight for her (as gorka obviously is) is important. my heart just went out to her as she obviously felt very put on the spot. they seemed fine on insta later though!

like you say, i think it absolutely came from a good place and out of frustration.

I did think Matt might avoid the bottom two and last another week, but surprised about Kym - thought it would be more likely to be James or Jayde this week
I’m actually really sad to see Matt go, I thought he was fab. It was good to see him loosening up and I think other years, he would have been a good ‘journey’ contestant.

I enjoyed Kym’s samba and it’s the right thing that she was saved over Matt.

Agreed. She did the little 💃 at the end and from her face it is hard to tell what she’s thinking. Maybe he should have said it in private to her afterwards but if wanted to say it I guess why not. He seems like a lovely partner. And anyone can see she is down. She’s looking very down & tired and I feel sorry for her without gorkas speech. I really thought she would be full of energy and topping leader board every week. I’m sure she did the Xmas one once & won?

I have the strong suspicion that we’re going to look back on next week’s show as something that absolutely did not work.

This is from the press release about it:

How many iconic BBC theme tunes are there that will actually suit a dance? And what does dancing “in tribute” to the BBC look like? This sounds like one of those ideas that should never have left the drawing board.

Oh no this sounds absolutely dreadful I thought it was a spoof until a press release was mentioned!

The leaderboard and Davethorps poll tells us:

-Will got ALOT of votes to avoide the b2. He got third on the poll; if he's getting these amount of votes for his worst dance so far then you could say he is a shoe in for a final slot unless something shocking happens in the future weeks.
-Tony is puling in a lot of votes 6th on the poll. A possible out stay his welcome contestant which people may resent in a few weeks??
-Kym got a really low vote. She was beaten by Jayde, both Ellie's, Helen, Tony and Will who all scored lower than her.
The fact Wet Welly Will has such a high percentage of the vote depresses me. If it had been just last night then I’d be the first to say he’s clearly unwell, he probably feels like death warmed up…but it’s not the only time he’s reacted badly to constructive criticism and it’s not from disappointed imho, it’s ego-driven

I was saying last night that Matt seems a bit emotionally fragile and I’m not sure the show was a good fit for him. I’m so sad that he’s gone, I would have liked to see him relax into it a bit more and grow in confidence. I hope he can go on to other things

i think he did the show too soon in all honesty, based on the more recent articles about him. i’m glad that he seemed happier in himself this week and more relaxed and so has left the show on a good note on a weekend that he obviously enjoyed.

I don't get the fuss about what gorka said. Every year we have to listen to celebs sob stories to garner sympathy and votes in those reels they run before taking to the floor.
They show celebs at home staring at a pic of their mum 'my mum died when I was 9' or 'my grandad was my world but passed away on my cats birthday' or 'this was my dead nans favourite show. Me and her were dead close you know' whilst wiping a tear away.

absolutely - he hasn’t come across well at all imo, even outside of being ill, and must have had a crazy amount of votes to avoid the dance-off. he must have a pretty loyal fanbase!

Regarding the BBC theme music for next week, I would simply refuse to perform unless they gave me either the music from the 1995 Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice to waltz to, or the sung part of the Red Dwarf theme to do a party Latin dance to, because its a genuine bop, and very danceable.
