Oh man SJP gets a rough time in here. šŸ˜¬ I haven't done much of a Google on the situation but does no one think it's interesting that Kim appears to be on her own with this, while SJP has a lot of support? If she is really awful why are the other two still involved? Or perhaps they are all 3 as bad, but then it's unfair that it's SJP who takes all the blame? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

She could be one of those types that is really nice to certain people, but gives others a hard time. SJP seems genuinely kind to Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon and I feel they are actually friendly, though not sure if it's in a colleague way or they are very close and meet up a lot. I do believe Kim.

I always found it hilarious when she was late submitting her column, imagine having nothing but one column to do and not managing it
RIGHT??šŸ˜
I always found it funny how they had all the free time to constantly be out every other night drinking in bars etc. Especially Miranda and Samantha . Samantha ran a PR firm, so I cant understand how she had time to see the girls so often, and Miranda was partner in a legal firm. How did she have so much time, and energy, to be out bar hopping most evenings?
In reality I think Samantha would have used male escorts alot like wealthy businesswomen often do, and wouldn't have bothered with the girlish gossip of Carrie and Charlotte. Miranda would probably have been single more often in real life I think. I think the series would have been more interesting if it had stayed more realistic , rather than becoming a fantasy.

Anyone else think that Samantha became a cartoon? At the start of the show she was believable as a confidant, sexually aggressive, single woman. But by series 4 had become a parody, getting sex anytime she wanted, with anyone she wanted, regardless of age, or situation etc. I also never bought her lesbian relationship either. She was straight, turned down the Brazilian woman, but then for some inexplicable reason changed her mind and had a relationship with her. Out of sympathy? The most she would have done was a one night stand with her, then moved on to the next dick. I thought the writing was ridiculous in that storyline.

SJP and CN are friends from years back - they have know each other for years, long before SATC.

I think KC is just older, and has more balls than the rest of them. she and SJP obviously clashed and just didnā€™t get on at all on a personal level and that seems to have spilled into their professional lives on set. And SJP does seem to have a tendency to constantly act like the wide eyed innocent party all the time - no doubt for clout and for positive PR spin. The public statements she put out after the death of KCā€™s brother for example were for the benefit of onlookers, not a show of genuine compassion.

What's wrong with trying to make the reboot more relevant? I think this thread clearly highlights some of the series' problematic elements around sexuality and gender.

I think Kim Cattrall openly said she wanted her part to be given to someone who could improve inclusivity.

I said earlier in the thread no doubt they will have a non binary character, no surprise there.

Seems the reboot will be about how pc and inclusive they can be rather than a story to tell
Yes. I also wonder how they are going to portray the "girls" this time. In the films they were portrayed as entitled rich witches, but I'm not sure they can do that now. I just think this is going to be a mistake. SATC is so 20 years ago, let it rest fgs.

Unless they actively address the problematic content of the original series and the abomination that is the second film, then it will just come across like a box-ticking exercise to avoid criticism.

Characters can grow, they can change, but currently it feels like theyā€™re basically just jumping on the chance to say ā€œsee we donā€™t need to be criticised anymore!!ā€ without actually working with the bigger picture, especially since SATC was always a product of its time.

yeah it actually seemed to get more problematic by the end with both of the films as opposed to progressing, the second was absolutely atrocious

I wish they just hadnā€™t made the films and left it with that perfect ending of her being with Big etc...

Hate the 2nd film but likewise HATE the ending of the 1st film where he brings out a pair of shoes and she forgives him and shags him in the walk in dresser. It hasnā€™t aged well at all.

I can forgive the series it was 20 years ago but the films not so much

Yeah absolutely. Samantha was my favourite but I have to admit it's easy to like her because she isn't a believable character. Fun, funny, non-judgemental, etc. Love or loathe Carrie she was a real person who was selfish, bitchy and made terrible decisions like many of us do - e.g. allowing that one person who's gotten under your skin to treat you like tit (Big) and constantly running back whilst ruining things with other guys who are much nicer and much more suitable (Aiden). It's real. I know lots of people like Miranda and Carrie, maybe a few like Charlotte but none like Samantha.

I also think that's why SJP behaved like she did towards KC - Samantha was the clear favourite despite Carrie being the lead. Personally I was shocked by how much they dimmed her light in the films, it seems like all of her funny/witty lines were given to Carrie imo. I think that was SJP's doing
