I understand the criticism the original show was too white, but that can't be fixed. The only way to fix it properly was to replace the four leads. Just adding diversity to side one dimensional characters no one really is going to care about in a much loved show with a built in audience isn't going to help. We already have people from minority backgrounds in supporting roles, it's the lead roles they need a bigger representation in.

I doubt the actresses will want to do another with the nastiness and constant criticism of how they look, it must be horrible.
I think the allusion to “constant criticism of how they look” is a total red herring that distracts from the responsibility they should take for making a total stinker of a show.

Cynthia Nixon did this early on in the series when she was on some US chat show and was asked about criticism of the show. She immediately pivoted the conversation to talk about the flack they’d had about appearance and how this was a common theme with older women because sexism etc etc.

Yes, women of course get scrutinised far too much on their looks, and yes, it’s unfair. Yes, I’m sure it was really unpleasant for KD to have millions of people trying to work out what she’d had done to her face. But to focus on this this seems like a way of deflecting from the main issue which is that the show is poorly conceived, written, acted and produced.

The vast majority of criticism on this thread - and the many, many reviews I’ve seen and read - is not about their appearance. Honestly, I don’t actually see “constant” criticism of how they look (the fashion choices yes, but nobody blames the actors for that). Occasionally I see criticism about appearance that is related to a more general theme - eg why are they trying to “age” these characters so much and make them appear like 80 year olds rather than 50 year olds (eg Carrie’s hair worn in a bun, the choice to put Miranda in grey wigs).

But actually the “constant” criticism is for character inconsistencies, plot lines that go nowhere, the prioritisation of a political agenda, poor editing, inauthentic acting and an overall vision that is confused, gloomy, depressing and completely devoid of the spark of the original series.

If there’s no series 2, that’s on the people who produced this series 1 garbage, including the three leads. It is absolutely not on the audience, who always had open hearts for the return of the characters they loved and who always deserved a much better show.

Spot on. I find it extremely hard to believe Che would be interested in Miranda. Not because of Miranda's "looks" but because she behaves like a pathetic fan girl. Che may have been interested in the old Miranda but definitely not this pathetic version.

This is so bad that I can’t even get to a stage where I feel anything about what they’ve done to the characters as all I ever see is a group of overpaid, vain, ham actors. It reminds me of when we used to put on school plays and you weren’t really paying attention to the story as you were looking at people you knew in real life. Despite the topics dealt with, it’s all very childish. Just make a spin off show for Anthony and call it a day.

Would 100% agree with a spin-off for Anthony, what are predictions for the last episode? I think the issue with Harry’s prostate exam will be back and we’ll be left hanging, I am still hoping for all in on che with someone else. Che saying last time she wasn’t seeing anyone else very much sounded like “at the moment” but no certainty they wouldn’t

It was also an accurate reflection of what life was like for single women in a particular socioeconomic class in Manhattan in the 90s. I was there during that period (admittedly with less sex and less money 😢).

I guess my very fun life was “too white” back then as well. What a shame I didn’t know. Oh well, boo hoo me!

The most horrifying moment of the recent episode was Miranda's willingness to swap her delicious Baguette Sandwich and Fries for Carrie's Mustard coloured Soup. Top tier friend right there 🤔

Is anyone else kind of glad they’ve had to get rid of the flashbacks or dead bigs ghost scenes? Maybe they would have made it make sense but I hate that stuff!! 🤣
As much as I hate this car crash of a show, I don’t think even they would have gone down the route of ghost big. Urghh can you imagine 😱😱😱😱
Was probably when she’s going about day to day, sitting in a restaurant, in a bar on a date etc… it would have been her having a flash back of when she was in that resultant/ bar with big. Which would have been good for this story being told for Carrie. Without it, and all the other scenes already filmed, it’s like something isn’t right with the scenes and the way they have been edited. I can’t really put my finger on it 🤔

So, according to Lea deLaria, everybody hates Che because they can't accept non-gender conforming inviduals and NOT because Che is an undeveloped, horribly written character whose entire personality is weed, woke and fingering.

I mean, if there was any grain of truth in the audience having a general problem with gender non-conformity, people would up in arms about Rock's storyline. And nobody is. Rock has been accepted and that's that. The dislike of Che is because Che sucks, and the storyline Che is involved in SUCKS.

Everyone hates Che, because Che is unbearable. Even the generation that Che should appeal to hates Che, because Che is nothing but a mass of cliches and a crappy person to boot. Why would anyone be rooting for Che, whose whole personality revolves around being a non binary, half Irish, half Mexican pot smoker, over a much beloved, much more nuanced character (Shteve) that we’ve gotten to know over several seasons of SATC?

If the moneys right...
They also look better than most people will look at 55.

Agreed! I also think they will have a very thick skin already. Unfortunately it's how people are with women in the media, but they faced lots of horrible comments about their looks during SATC too. SJP in particular has always had awful, awful comments about her looks and to my knowledge, has never changed a thing and continues to be fabulous.

If you replaced the 4 leads it wouldn’t be SATC anymore?!! How is that fixing anything? You said yourself it was a much loved show?!!

The show reflected the reality of those women’s worlds at that time. It was quite out there for its era in terms of sex scenes, and did include some POC and had multiple gay characters.

Michael Patrick King did an interview in Grazia where he said that in the writers room writers were encouraged to throw out ideas “he looked for suggestions that caused strong feelings, even explosions and tapped into that.” It seems very amateur to me & somewhat lazy. He could have instead devoted time to discussing the story arc of the three characters that would do justice to the fact that the entertainment industry doesn’t give a lot of airtime to older women. Instead of the lazy half-baked way of dealing with multiple issues, sidelining Carrie completely.
