If you replaced the 4 leads it wouldn’t be SATC anymore?!! How is that fixing anything? You said yourself it was a much loved show?!!

The show reflected the reality of those women’s worlds at that time. It was quite out there for its era in terms of sex scenes, and did include some POC and had multiple gay characters.

Yeah that's my point. The only way to really fix the show in terms of diversity if they wanted to is to recast it, basically start from scratch but, but then as you say its not the show people loved. Just shoehorning new characters in at the sidelines is nothing but tokenism.

Also as you say it was pretty cutting edge for its time. Showing sex and relationships from a women's point of view. They were all strong independent women. There was (albeit one dimensional) gay representation at a time there wasn't much. At that time women needed better representation and this show provided it. It should be applauded for what it did do, not what it didn't (and never intended to). No show can tackle every single diversity issue

Ah ok sorry I misunderstood your point.

The apparently missing scenes are so weird. Like others have said, there must have been a scene where Miranda, Steve and Brady all discuss what’s happened and their future.
Did they have to cut it out because it was originally filmed with the ghost of Big sitting in a corner, chuckling away to himself saying “abso-bleeping-lately!”?
Im sniggering away here at that mental image 🤣

Was it ever addressed why Mr Big was called that? I'm rewatching and if it slipped my mind the first time, I've forgotten again.
In the very early episodes he was portrayed as a big deal finance guy, very successful and sophisticated and a proper 'grown-up', while Carrie was hapless and always bumping into him in awkward situations. I think Samantha made a reference to him being the next Donald Trump at one point. I don't remember any penis size references, but my brain may have blocked that out.

Yeah, I assumed it was Big like Big Deal or Big Ego. Carrie was waaaaay too much of a prude for it to be about his knob.

Agreed! I also think they will have a very thick skin already. Unfortunately it's how people are with women in the media, but they faced lots of horrible comments about their looks during SATC too. SJP in particular has always had awful, awful comments about her looks and to my knowledge, has never changed a thing and continues to be fabulous.
And they were all stunning in SATC (I’m rewatching it at the moment). SJP always looked amazing. She may not be the typical idea of ‘beautiful’ but she was gorgeous and her figure was fabulous. And just an FYI, Miranda always had uneven teeth that were a bit discoloured, but good on her for not going full on Hollywood with a set of those luminous, glaringly white pebbles.

Out of all the characters who have returned, Big had aged the worst, but you won’t hear anything about that because he’s a man and they’re allowed to look their age (plus we’re all now having to pretend he never existed).

She was right about the Trump stuff.. not in a good way if there are any good comparisons to the Cheeto.

Wasn't he in an episode as a cameo? He was in far too many classic movies/TV back then.

I really can't cope with miranda simping over Che it's so embarrassing, she's like 55, incredibly successful, confident woman and threw away a marriage (which I know wasn't perfect) to gamble on a person who sees you as someone they are "getting to know". I was hoping that this latest episode would shed some light on Miranda's clear need to grow and develop as a single woman but no it's Che or nothing. Just bloody ridiculous and unbelievable, this series is honestly a joke most of the time 😂

I’m sure they were calling him Mr Big before she’d even slept with him so yeah definitely not his knob
I always assumed it was because he was tall with a big build 😂

Yeah Samantha pointed him out to Carrie in a bar and said he was the next Donald Trump, the next Big thing. I think Samantha went over to make a move on him but we never saw any more (that I can remember).

Miranda was horrible to Steve on the day they met. He should have ran!

I always wondered what would have happened if Big said yes to Samantha. I could kind of see those two vibing and having a FWB thing.

Yeah, on rewatching I noticed how Miranda has always been rude and dismissive towards Steve. He really needs somebody who will appreciate him for the total gem he is.

She wouldn’t have let hi, treat her as badly as he did the Carrie that’s for sure

Honestly I don’t think any show should set out to “tackle diversity issues”. SATC didn’t. It told a story about a way of life at a certain time in a certain place, and told it well.

They’d be much better off remembering what they’re there for in the first place, which is to entertain people.

When SATC was first airing it was considered edgy TV for its time… the show and actresses were slandered quite a lot for this and even HBO was considered far more subcultural, shocking, boundary-transgressing than it is today. It wasn’t necessarily just fluff, and is now considered a bit of a trailblazer for allowing women to talk about and have casual sex on TV, to be single in a certain way on TV, etc.

So I have no problem with a similarly edgy and provocative 2021-2022 version of SATC. The problem to me is that this is not it. It’s not pushing the envelope or trailblazing, it’s just a grab bag of cringey plotlines from people who seem to just think life is a Twitter hashtag.

Genuinely lol'ed!
Also... What has happened with the alcoholism storyline?? I feel like Hollyoaks tackles addiction better? Has Steve ever acknowledged her drinking problem, did it create issues with him owning a bar? She literally ordered one book and then it was all good!

Nya must be baffled. The awkward student just seemed like a nice enough middle aged lady if a bit cringe then all of a sudden she's invested in Miranda's whirlwind tour of alcoholism, family breakdown, affairs and negotiating non binary dating

One thing I wanna point out that doesn’t make sense is in the earlier episode when Stanford had a go at Charlotte. It came to my attention in this episode that Charlotte invited Anthony to a dinner party so surely over the course of these past 10 years, Stanford and Anthony would’ve probably hung out with Charlotte and Co for years without Carrie around. None of it makes sense now lol.

I’m late to the thread but honestly, I disliked EVERY single one of Stanford’s scenes. They turned him really horrible.

Worse 50 something is not old these days & they are acting like these women are desperately struggling to keep up with the kids.

Two non-binary/trans (I haven’t paid enough attention to Rock to understand the specifics) people in the same small circle seems statistically unlikely. As for the comments about the professor’s hair from Miranda 🤦‍♀️. A woman who we are supposed to believe was a successful corporate lawyer until 5 minutes ago. I don’t live in NYC but I struggle to believe in 2022 in those type of affluent social circles meeting a POC is commented on that much but perhaps I’m wrong.

All slammed together in an OTT manner because the creators & actors felt the need to correct a show made 20 years ago. A show that have many have said was progressive for its time.
