I was in Asda the day after you posted this and picked up the Pantene Bond repair shampoo and conditioner (£3 each) and also a L'Oréal bond repair serum (about £5 I think?) as my hair was like yours.I'm living proof (no pun intended) that heat styling is viciously bad for your hair. Mine was a mess. Hadn't had it cut for nearly a year but people were asking if it was shorter. Initially I spent a lot of money on products and largely followed Blowout Professor guy's advice. Nine months later and my hair looks pretty decent and has about 3-4 inches extra length. I'm not on the pricey products anymore either - I found Pantene Bond repair works fine for me (I buy it in B&M) and Beauty Works Leave-In is better for me than the Pureology one. But I believe the big changes have occurred simply because I stopped any and all heat, even a hairdryer.
I know I've only washed my hair a couple of times since but it feels so different already. I put the serum on the ends of my hair and on weaker bits every night too. I don't think it's just my imagination as my OH said today how nice my hair was looking. So thank you for the recommendation.
Another good tip was in The Guardian - for those irritating broken flyaways along your parting simply run some dental floss over them. I tried it and it really works! I presume it's the wax but it flattens them down really quite glossily.
