@IOrderedASandwich There are definitely some women on there who are trapped in a cycle and buying things they can’t afford. I find it really sad that that there are posts selling dresses to pay for car or vet bills etc. I do think Popsy should have some sort of social responsibility, especially the re-post of the weekly live that always asks “what are you going for this week?”
They don’t need to use this hype anymore, or release as many new dresses as they have a good code customer base.
I have a decentish job and my bank balance is fine but wouldn’t dream of spending £40+ a week on a dress. Even if I was absolutely loaded I wouldn’t buy a new dress every week!
Popsy aren’t the only brand that do it and I do love how it has enabled some people, including transgender people, to feel good about themselves but if people are buying what they cannot afford, that feel good feeling is not going to last.

I think the group is very enabling, it shocks me when people are buying multiple items a week. I think they’re really bloody expensive too considering they aren’t that great quality. Take the plimsoll types shoes they’ve started doing, they’re £42 for some basic canvas shoes that you can pick up in Primark or Sainsburys for less than a tenner. You can get converse for around £40 if you look around.
I get a mean girl vibe from Cherish, she comes across as fake and smug.

I think all of these cult brands are a bit dangerous to be honest, I love Irregular Choice shoes and so many people in those groups seem to be making regular, frequent purchases; those shoes are NOT cheap!

If they can afford it then fair play to them, I can’t knock that, but I do worry that a lot can’t afford it. Lots of posts about hiding parcels as well, as another Tattler mentioned further up. They’re said in a jokey way but it’s hard to tell sometimes. I think quite a few people get themselves into tit this way and the brands don’t help, constant drops, limited edition, endless collabs etc making a demand for the products and a “must have” attitude. That’s business I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

I used to be a member of the Popsy cult.

At one point I had 75 dresses and alongside that I had 35 pairs of Irregular Choice shoes. I can’t get on with Snag tights (but seriously people keep up- it’s all about Popsy tights now- Snag is toast) and I never have and never would wear Molke.

I do lurk with intent in the group but only post rarely. One thing I found is that the dresses are extremely popular as pre loved so if I needed quick cash I would sell a dress. But then I stopped being able to afford them- I tried buying a few here and there but always ended up selling them to raise money. (I also sold my IC collection, most of which were brand new and unworn)

Now I have five dresses (one of which, Tara blue was extremely hyped and literally sold out in all sizes within a minute or two. I bought it as it was the colours of the Scottish saltire with the tartan pattern- my Nan was Scottish so it’s meaningful to my family. Another dress I bought as it’s name was after a dear friend of mine who passed too soon; I bought it on the anniversary of her death to remember her by) I also have a tunic, a blazer and a couple of pairs of Longpops (which I have to admit I do like) Had all this stuff with the bags, shoes etc happened a few years ago I would too have been wasting my money on them.

I got fed up and left when they went through the phase of basically only wanting teachers as customers and if you weren’t a teacher/education staff you basically weren’t welcome. They soon realised however that this wasn’t really a viable business plan and so the cult of Popsy became more ‘inclusive’

Why did they only want teachers? That whole cosy aesthetic I guess
Snag tights quality went way down and they had some controversies. They need a thread of their own 😂

Didn't Snag take legal action against Better tights? Would love a Snag thread, they never fitted me properly and it felt irritating to see how much they were giving away to instagrammers. Popsy tights are much better quality, I want to buy more but won't be buying anymore dresses (I have 3). I wear Molke despite their use of male models😐

Omg I bought some Snags a couple of weeks ago and they laddered on the first bleeping wear! Never had any quality issues with them before, I was so mad 🥴 my friend mentioned Better Tights too when I was complaining to her so I’ll give them a go perhaps

I’m not keen on the way they encourage over buying and allow people to submit pics of themselves in the clothes purely to get positive feedback making them more likely to buy more so they get that initial high when they see the likes coming in.

It’s like the whole Klarna, buy now pay later thing, designed to encourage more and more buying even when you know you can’t afford it.

I cringe when I see Irregular Choice post new shoes and then in capital letters - KLARNA AVAILABLE!!!

People absolutely do not need the encouragement to buy what they can’t afford. They know things sell out fast so they’ve added Klarna, so people don’t miss out on the “must have”. They barely pay it off and then it’s time for the next drop. I’m glad I’m out of that cycle now, but I have got about 30 pairs of shoes that I need to sell and can’t be arsed to 🥴

It’s funny because this thread was dormant for ages and all of a sudden there are more people here.

The Popsy group drives me crazy. A friend and I often joke that it is full of submissive wives. I can’t stand the “I hid the parcel from my OH lol I’m so kooky!” posts. Then when you say that isn’t a good thing they get all uppity and say “it was only a JOKE!” Sure, Jan. Maybe to you.

I’ve bought one Popsy in the last year or so and it was the blue tartan Tara and I absolutely adore it. But that’s it for me. I bought another on Vinted and sold it immediately because it reminded me how generally dreadfully made they are.

I have a select few, but I do think they are overpriced for what they are. It’s definitely going the same was as LLL.

The teacher thing is very weird? I remember on Mumsnet people saying that Harkel (they used to advertise aggressively on FB) looked like primary school teacher outfits, though.

Klarna really puts me off brands, I have to say. Especially ones that have a lot of 'new drop! bye bye money!!! time for a new haul!' marketing (looking at you, BeautyBay)

I haven’t bought any for ages, I was never a fanatic but probably have 10+that I’ve bought over the years. I did like the Tara dresses but the fact people were going so crazy for them put me off.
I can kinda relate to down playing what they buy to partners, but it does suggest they are spending money that’s needed for something else. Mine sometimes will make sarky comments about how many deliveries I get but I have my money, he has his, the bills are paid and I’m quite comfortable telling me to mind his own freaking business.

Never tried Better tights, are the any good?
I’ve got Snags and Popsy tights but I tend to go back to Snag because they do 120 denier and I’m always cold. I do think they are very over priced for something that could end up being worn once and then unusable.
A few things irritate me about Snag on social media. A month or so ago, some one posted a generic picture of a model in a skort and asked if Snag could make similar.
One comment told the OP that she should have put the image in the comments because it had a slim model in and no one wanted to see that. To be fair, most commenters made it clear that there was nothing wrong with a slim model but I do think that Snag has fed the narrative that minimises any body confidence issues or even nasty comments that non plus size women can have, whether it’s intentional or not.

I joined the Facebook group out of sheer fascination after reading this thread. Its annoying as the dresses are right up my street but likely because she has clearly ripped off the prints and styles from other brands I love, namely Frugi, Piccalilly and Duns to name a few (the stegosaurus print is almost an exact copy of the Frugi Dino print). The fabric looks thin and cheap and bobbly. Shame as if they were cotton I would 100% buy!
