I personally don’t see an issue producing a piece of content targeted at woman who have periods. I completely understand not all woman have periods. Some people have periods who don’t identify as woman but Niomi should be able to produce a video aimed specifically at woman who have periods. Like how many pieces of content are targeted at a certain demographic. I do however think she’s full of tit and it’s no great loss on woman who have periods that they no longer have access to Niomi’s wisdom on the matter. I wonder why she deleted it.
The problem isn't producing a piece of content targeted at women who have periods, the problem is the approach itself. She looks at menstruation as a "superpower" with healing and magical purposes. She thinks if you're hurting and talk with your womb "kindly" and "embrace" it, the hurt will be gone. She mentioned a case where this supposedly happpened. Come on, lol.

And forget about anyone with PMDD, endometriosis, struggles to conceive etc. It was a tone deaf video.

I remember that video popped up when I was having an early miscarriage and I was not amused

It's not even one video you know, she spend so many months randomly gushing about how awesome her period was, just random stuff on IG with a picture of the moon or something. I think if she had an intelligent and cohesive video about it as @frooshh mentioned it would be one thing, but Pseudo Doctor Niomi gets on my damn nerves to be honest.

Yes exactly, that's what I thought of first. She's so unaware that people out there face a myriad of challenges and pains and she spins it into some woowoo unsolicited advice. And per your spoiler big hugs <3 so sorry you had to see her crap at that time.

She minimizes so much of women’s health it makes my blood boil sometimes. Her weird rants about periods, contraception, “feminine and masculine energy”. She doesn’t seem to mind having low muscle mass/bone density when it’s pretty dangerous for women to have low of either at an age like 32. Saying she is learning how to “submit” etc, etc. even refusing to acknowledge mental health struggles when young women who watch her might be going through the same thing and think “learning to accept and submit” is the solution. She takes full advantage of all the rights and privileges women have fought for so long while also diminishing and invalidating those same rights.

This is definitely a bit of a tangent but I realized it’s one of the main reasons I’ve come to despise her.

It’s clear she doesn’t have much empathy and probably can’t fathom how people feel unless she has gone through it herself. I think you can see this at the end of the Joe era when he was clearly disgruntled in the lockdown videos and she was beaming.

(Thank you so much, I’m now 5 months pregnant with a healthy baby girl!)

I think she ran out of things to talk about loooong long ago lol. And so happy for you, congratulations! :)

There were posters talking previously around the topic of woman menstruating being insensitive to those who don’t or those with painful periods / health conditions that effect their periods etc. I personally don’t see an issue in Niomi talking about periods in a positive way. Regular periods are a sign of reproductive health. I don’t think this should be shamed or avoided. There is an audience of woman with healthy reproductive cycles who may value content on the topic. I agree whole heartedly that Niomi’s approach and the woo-woo nonsense was poorly done!

Congratulations, darling! I'm sorry for what you went through but so happy you're having a healthy baby girl now! <3

AND YES. YES. It's mind-blowing to me how this woman actually thinks of herself as "highly empathetic human being" - I believe that's what she called herself once. She's the opposite and every action of hers confirms it. She simply cannot comprehend, let alone relate, to things at all if she hasn't gone through them herself. Anything that it's different from what she knows becomes almost fascinating to her, like things haven't occurred to her at all. She makes observations sometimes about the most mundane things that leaves an adult like??? That's pretty normal??? Sometimes I almost think she's VERY naive. But then I see her having attitudes that make me see her in an evil light. Like this whole incredibly uncultured and insensitive position about "THE BLEED" (ugh). Or her whole behaviour during COVID. And yes, even during lockdown with Joe.

Well, but you see, she didn't talk about periods in a positive way. She talked about them in a crazy, delusional and very dangerous way, in my opinion. There are thousands of videos/people who talk about it, with a scientific bases. Of course regular periods are a sign of reproductive health and of course that should be talked about, no one said otherwise. But HER videos and posts weren't like that at all, it's what we've been saying. Her content on the topic hasn't been about "reproduction" - her whole approach is that "the bleed" gives you "guidance". I highly doubt even women with healthy reproductive cycles are interested to know that, according to Miss Smart, if you're in pain and talk with your uterus very kindly, the pain is pfff, gone. 😂 I don't think her videos are positive or even remotely relatable/relevant at all.

It's not that making a video on the topic of women menstruating in itself is offensive to people who struggle with their cycle, or even trying to show periods in a positive way. It was the statements she was making in particular. Unfortunately if she's deleted it I can't refresh myself on what exactly she said, but I remember blanket statements about how periods are not so bad, everyone complains about them, but they are actually magical, and we just need to embrace them.

PMDD for example can be so severe it can make otherwise healthy women become suicidal once a month - it's not as simple as a change of mindset and spirituality to embrace menstruation and make it all ok. It just felt like naive at best, offensive at worst.

Love everyone’s insights, perspectives and shared experiences on this thread ♥️
For me this conversation is triggering a memory…
Was it after Nims posted that video, someone on here told the story of an ex-work colleague who used to store her menstrual blood in a jar in the staff room fridge, so she had to be let go by the company pretty sharpish?! 😂

I think the most frustrating thing about it is that periods and “women’s problems” are so horribly under researched in medicine, despite us being 50% of the population. Niomi spreading ignorance and “lalala periods are not so bad guys just think positively”, is so not helpful - women’s health issues do not need to be undermined more than they already are.

That’s her entire delusional shtick right now — just think POSITIVELY about EVERYTHING all the time!!! Problem solved! just choose to be happy, duh!

Yet you can see how well that’s working out for her…the eyes don’t lie

Yep! She was keeping it to use for spells. Which, cool, no judgement here (ok some judgement) but IN THE STAFF ROOM FRIDGE? And unlabeled, in an office with a culture of sharing food? Untenable.

@earlgrey baby name ideas:
-Moon (obviously)
-Barley
-Crystal (or Amethyst, Opal, RoseQuartz)
-Frida
-Paris (pronounced pair-eeeee)

I’m afraid you’ve missed my point. I was agreeing her magical nonsense was not helpful. But I disagree that content on periods can’t focus on positive. They aren’t so bad etc embrace the cycle and celebrate your reproductive health if aimed at woman without reproductive issues / very painful periods etc. Most woman’s periods occur without major impact on their comfort and mental health. It’s awful for those who do struggle but it’s ok to create content for those with regular cycles to embrace it. Niomi’s video was not helpful or inspiring but talking about healthy periods in a positive way shouldn’t be an issue. That’s my opinion.
