I agree with you.I don't see the issue with Nelly not commenting on recent events in Lebanon and really despise the trend calling out influencers for not speaking out about about politics/atrocities (as seen in the comment section of her latest post).
Partly because she is an awful spokesperson; she really isn't cut out for talking about grownup things! But also because there is absolutely no obligation for her to.
I am not suggesting that she has an obligation, I am just making an observation that she is happy to inform people that she’s Lebanese when it suits her, which is her right but I find that annoying.
She went through a phase of mentioning it whenever she could, likely to just ‘be different’ and try fit into a minority like she does with being midsize.
I’m sure she also tried to mention it when discussing Iran and Woman rights last year - another thing she’s not qualified to talk about.
But this is about her claimed heritage & now I think about it, she hasn’t mentioned it in ages, as it’s irrelevant to what she’s trying to back, I imagine.
I prefer people to mention their background because they’re proud, not for clout.
