Michael Barrymore - death in the pool

1
Well I have a hunch why he's stepped up his little poor me campaign,at the end of thus year the tv rights to Strike it Lucky are up for sale, due to time and the era it was broadcast the asking price is pretty much rock bottom,My partners sister worked at lwt and still hears about things connected to various shows....I can see it going on Ch5 or hidden away at some late hr...but i would BET my last Dollar Barrymore thinks hes in with a chance to waltz back in.....this guy would step over a dying man to get back on t.v....

He said this morning that mr Lubbock has said in their meetings that, he knows that Barrymore didn't do it, but he brings him up to keep the publicity going. Would the father really say that to him? Do you think the meetings were recorded?
Mm - I could imagine in the meeting between Mr Lubbock and Barrymore, him (B) blubbing and being self pitying and manipulative and woe is me, and Mr Lubbock being a decent man saying something bland like 'It's alright', and then MB twisting this in his own mind to be a declaration of his innocence.

Yeah that sounds believable. What a stupid, pathetic statement from MB.
Firstly, Mr Lubbock may be as close to the case as you could be in the sense that his son was the victim, but how would he “know” Barrymore didn’t do it? Isn’t the point no one who wasn’t there that night knows what happened (unless people have confessed to others etc, but no one who seeks justice )
If he knew MB was innocent he must have had some kind of evidence which he would be doing all he could to make the police pursue.
As it stands there is a desperate lack of information that suggests people keeping quiet to protect each other.
No grieving father would deliberately promote a red herring ie MB’s name - it would be a distraction however much publicity it brought. You want every second of the investigation to be focused on significant information.
Such narcissistic desperation from MB. Can’t believe he went on with his solicitor.

Are you joking!!? There would have been ten times the furore if the victim were female!!
I know it sounds crazy but I honestly think it's the gay thing that made him a pariah, not the death. There's plenty of famous guys who are excused all kinds of terrible things. I know murder is a bit far but I honestly think there might be more people popping up to defend him . As it is, theres no one!
As it is, I think he 100% was directly involved in poor Stuart's death. What a horrible thing to happen to someone just on a fun night out. I really really hope the truth comes out.
Anyway I'm not trying to derail the thread or bang a feminist drum, it's just something that's always struck me about the coverage.

Yeah especially if they could paint her as some tragic innocent victim.m
Because it was a guy st the home of a gay man we get the “drug fuelled gay sex game gone wrong” narrative, the subtext of which blames the victim for being a gay deviant.
I mean I haven’t heard one person in this thread who knew he wasn’t gay all along ?! Not that it should have mattered, but implies how much the press twisted the story

I agree. He has tried time and time again to resurrect his career but he's odious, creepy and I think most people accept he had something to do with this murder. Even if it weren't for all that, time has moved on and, thankfully, we don't seem to have 'entertainers' like that these days.
It’s maybe more to do with the police investigation and Pierce Morgan will be guarded about his approach to interviewing as if there is a trial in the future wouldn’t want any chance of jeapordising it

Wow, this is a pity party! He's there with his solicitor. It's all rather unsavory

I agree, like the documentary said in the 90s (sadly) being gay was associated with a suspect and seedy lifestyle. I think MB was already going off the deep end at the point he announced he was gay, and his career was on the decline. Bringing men back to his place (whether they were gay or not), and the whole drugs exposé...it was never going to end well even without a murder. He was a family entertainer loved mainly by housewives and grannies.

Remember this is the same era that Richard Bacon was SACKED and ostracized for taking Cocaine. You wouldn't see it happen like that now.

He was a blue peter presenter caught doing a class a drug, I’m pretty sure that would happen now.... not just for a children’s presenter but anyone in a high profile role at the BBC. They are paid a lot of money to entertain, provide information, be a reliable face on tv.
It’s not about doing it, ‘everyone’s at it’ in the worlds of lily Allen -it’s about being caught doing it. If you aren’t sacked you have to resign. But lots of people make a comeback in 6 months, remember Kate Moss being dropped from H&M and a bunch of other campaigns when photos of her doing lines were published ? As if anyone was shocked, but the brands had no choice. She went to a rich person ‘rehab’ ie spa and 6 months later was making more money than ever.

I watched the interview this morning. Did anyone else think his speech was off? It was really slurred and almost like he was drunk
i thought he was on prescription medication, I don't know what mental illness he has been diagnosed with, he was going to alcoholics anonymous, he had one of his friends from there on piers morgans life stories to speak up for him.
