Michael Barrymore - death in the pool

1
I can't help but think if MB didn't do he would out whoever did- he'd want to save his rep and play the victim himself.
this is a great point. He’s shown how desperate he is to try to salvage his career for years now - he’s never shown an interest in adopting a quiet life after something so awful happened at its home, he’d rather throw himself at any reality tv show that’ll have him, it’s clear what his priorities are. Say he was innocent and saw nothing - he’d surely still be able to come up with a detail like ‘we were all inside except Stuart and x.’ The same applies to them all I suppose, and I feel it can’t just be money keeping everyone quiet, MB didn’t have THAT much...
It feels like everyone must know something and be trying to save themselves by all keeping quiet. It’s mutually assured destruction otherwise. I just don’t think anything else would be so powerful for so long. Maybe im wrong, but we all can agree on how clearly rotten the whole thing is. Frustratingly you can’t convinct on that, however obvious. We have the police to thank for the evidence issue.

Interesting how many of us assumed Stuart was gay too. And some of the posts here show how much the media has painted this image of gay men as highly sexualised, drug taking, orgy loving nymphomaniacs. ‘Why would he go to a gay party’ - why not ? Who cares? People go to after parties all the time. He might even have been closeted though there’s no evidence to imagine it. Wanting to go to a celebrity’s house party is very credible. It doesn’t mean you are signing up to sex or drugs , gay or not. Kind of a ridiculous distraction to even go down that road.

As for his father, I saw a piece on the news about the case being re opened and the documentary- he’s very sick, and is going through chemo. Another irrelevant angle though really.

There was always something creepy and dirty about Barrymore. He genuinely gave me the ick anytime I saw him on TV
I wasn’t really aware of him in his prime but I did see him on celebrity big brother as mentioned.
I must have been about 14 and was vaguely aware of the murder. In that context I so clearly remember how damaged he seemed and how uncomfortable it was to watch. He’d swing from OTT entertainer persona to crying as himself to some other kind of whacky character like a solider. Especially if he’d had a drink. They wouldn’t put someone like that in reality tv now - or they wouldn’t leave them there or broadcast that stuff. But this was like 2004 right ? The height of the big brother boom and the more messed up the better. I’m not describing him as damaged to make him seem sympathetic- its just a fact. He was definitely someone with a lot of demons.

Of course, somebody dieing at your house would damage anyone. But returning to national TV like that screams more ‘trying to prove I’ve nothing to hide’ as opposed to privately processing the trauma - which I guess happened for a few years, that or no channels would touch him....?
If someone died at my house so horrifically and it was unsolved but I was truely innocent, I wouldn’t want their family to be able to see me prancing around on tv in something so inane. I couldn’t bare that.

I watched the documentary last night. I was only around 14/15 when it all happened so don’t really remember taking much of an interest back then. Over the years I had heard bits and bobs but in my head Stuart was a young gay guy, had been at an after party where there was drink and drugs and drowned in a pool. I had no idea he was a young straight man, had been raped and suffered so badly 😢 and so much had been covered up.

His poor family! You can tell this has completely consumed their whole lives and my heart breaks for them that they will most likely never have answers or any justice for Stuart. 😢

I’m pretty sure whatever went on that night that, they were all aware and part of It and just all kept it quiet. For MB to flee the scene before the police got there and then go on to blame hospital staff for Staurts horrific injuries screams guilty to me. I hope he’s never allowed back on our screens after this document has shed so much light.

I agree that I though MB wasn’t involved and it was someone else in the house that night who done it, but watching the doc changed my mind completely

if MB genuinely didn’t do it, he may have not said anything at the time to protect his career but let’s be honest i think his career would have been finished either way! I’m not sure what/who he is trying to protect now, hardly doubt he will ever make a ‘comeback’

screams guilty to me:unsure:

I watched this last night on All4 and cried my eyes out during the last 5-10 minutes. Stuart seemed like such a wonderful, caring person who just went out to have fun and dance. I sincerely believe one of the men came onto him and he rejected them. I find it interesting how MB's ex-partner was known to get aggressive when under the influence of drugs. Not saying it's him but one of them did it.
In a way it would make sense that someone put him in the pool to ensure he wouldn't be able to tell anyone of what happened that night.
Really heartbreaking, especially right at the end when his Dad put the flowers onto his grave and told him how much he missed him. I hope he gets the answers he deserves and needs before it's too late.

Terribly sad. I wasn't aware either of the full extent of what happened to Stuart.
I was wondering if this hadn't been the first time someone was assaulted at Barrymore's? And shame had stopped them coming forward? Maybe the documentary would encourage them to do so.
I doubt it was the first time, I'd guess he had a habit of picking men up and bringing them home but for whatever reason no one's spoke up!

I've never liked Barrymore. There was always something I couldn't put my finger on. But when this happened, my dislike deepened. He's never been co operative, he's very evasive & he left the scene of a crime for god's sake! He knows exactly what happened that night but didn't want to ruin his career.

He comes across as a man who only thinks of himself. Poor woe is me Michael. It was my house, my party, my poor career etc. He hasn't given a damn about poor Stuart's family. I felt so much for his father. I don't think he or any of his other guests will ever talk though. It's disgusting.
I absolutely detest him

He was ghastly on Big Brother,he ripped Jodie Marsh apart verbally but George Galloway wiped the floor with him and saw straight through his poor me act...the rushing off after the body was found was hiding evidence,it has to be my dears
He is awful and he can forget his career, it wouldn't work now even if the Lubbock death had never happened, I can't say I liked Jodie either, never hear about her nowadays.

He just said he hasn’t spoken to the witnesses since that night she he wouldn’t know em if he tripped over them , then he was asked does he think any of them did it , he was adamant none of them know anything ....well how can he be so sure as he just said he doesn’t know them personally!!!! He did it all day long...they were paid off

fans what bloody fans man is deluded

I don't know why he gets such an easy ride from Morgan and ITV...the documentary was weeks ago so why is he doing this now?

At the end of the day he strikes me as being completely odious and I can't help but think that the fact he hasn't found a scapegoat to take the fall in order to rescue his career - and I think if there was ANY chance of rescuing his career they'd need a scapegoat to take the fall - makes me as certain as I can be that he was heavily involved in what happened.

I agree. He has tried time and time again to resurrect his career but he's odious, creepy and I think most people accept he had something to do with this murder. Even if it weren't for all that, time has moved on and, thankfully, we don't seem to have 'entertainers' like that these days.
