OMG I always thought he would die behind the microphone. What will he do with his life?

Interesting comment " “My contract with LBC is up shortly and following discussions, I’m stepping down from LBC today". Has he done something wrong? Why not see out the end of his contract? When Nigel Farage left, didn't they say something like "..following discussions, NF will leave immediately". I would have thought Steve would want to say goodbye.

According to the schedule Ian Payne is covering both 4am and 10pm. Surely that can't go on for more than a few days?

WTF! NO! 😭
was he pushed? He said until this he had no plans to retire 🤷‍♀️
His work was his life........ I think lbc has had a purge with Darren Adam and now Steve, though I didn't listen to darren. The station will lose a few thousand listeners. He was hugely popular, I just can't see why they'd want to lose him.
I honestly think he got fed up with the trolls.

Somethings obviously gone on behind the scenes.

Shocking he hasn't had a fan fair or decent goodbye.

Wow. I thought Steve would die on air after eating ice cream. Just some initial thoughts.

A lot of the old hands left the BBC because they were asked to share their time with someone else. Maybe he was asked not to make comments about people because everyone is so bleeping touchy these days. Presumably his agent would have played a role in this somewhere.

I am so shocked Steve has departed so suddenly. OK, I moan about him now and again but deep down I probably do enjoy listening to him most of the time. I cannot believe he couldn't even announce his departure then continue until his contract ends. He only spoke a couple of weeks ago of his meeting with the boss to discuss his contract and mentioned how good his listening figures were.

Very very sinister, just last Friday no mention of anything on his show, no appearance on Monday and all this week and now this. After 44 years broadcasting on LBC surely he deserves a much better send off.

As for the Laura K comments being taken down ... again, the cowardice. Having the courage to stand by your convictions is a sign of character (even if your convictions are hateful). :cautious:

It may not have been James' decision to take it down. If Global / LBC were threatened by a lawsuit from Laura, of course they would remove it.

Hard to believe Steve has gone. It's strange comparison but it's a bit like when the Queen died - you knew it would happen one day but couldn't t imagine it actually happening. I still think it's a health issue.
I hope Ian Payne replaces him. He's the only one who does topics other than hard news. He was talking about food this morning and had a message from Pete the Poolman to congratulate him on sounding like Steve!
His fan club must be devastated.

Wow. I've not listened to Steve for years since I stopped listening to LBC altogether but I'm sorry to hear he's left. I used to adore those surreal mornings with Alan Dodgeon, John Warrington ❤️, Nathan Morley and other pals. My son & I travelled to Croydon to see one of his shows. All the best to him but I just hope it's not due to ill health. The bitchin' was fabulous.

Wow, what a shock. I only listened to Steve’s show on LBC since Maajid was given the boot. I doubt he’s bothered by trolls and he’d have wanted a proper send off, for all his loyal listeners at least. Can’t see any colleagues tweeting him, lots of support on Twitter but the same permanently offended crowd happy about the news. I must’ve agreed with less than half of what he said, especially on covid matters, but he just had a way of saying it 🤣 Too many people want to live in echo chambers these days. No thanks!

I know what you mean.

What makes it so odd is that he hasn't been given a chance to say goodbye. If it was health related I'd have thought they'd have given him a least week of shows or something but it's a brutal ending. Such a shame after so long.

It will really affect my LBC listening. There was only Steve and Nick Abbot that I make a point of listening to. All the others depend if I'm out and about in the car. Apart from James and Nick F, all the others are so beige.

Ken Bruce and Greatest Hits Radio are going to be getting a new listener I think.

Perhaps he didn't want a big send off. It would have been difficult to maintain his usual level of nonsense while being inundated with messages expressing his regular listeners' sadness and dismay. I just hope we hear news of him.

Quite fitting he's made the side bar of shame ...

Several papers and the Beeb website have picked up on the story. They all use it to refer to his remarks about Tilly Ramsey.
