There definitely the best radio for podcasts. I go through about 5 a week.

I'm starting to wander if they'll be a big shake up with who has what slots.

I don't know who though. The daytime 4 seem pretty fixed. I'd be surprised if any of those went. The weekend has a lot more scope for a radical shake up. Marr, Maitlis and Sopel might not want fixed spots. They all seem to be doing podcasts. The only one who has said they will be daily is Marr but that may only be for an hour.

I see some are already predicting the demise of Ferrari. I don't think so ....

Ferrari & Mair are the two must haves. I guess James has his fans as much as I’m not keen on the guy.

Shelagh, Iain & Tom are all replaceable to me. Not too fussed about what happens overnight and Steve is Steve, he’ll do his thing regardless. Maybe others will differ though.

I still wonder who will get Maajid’s slot long term. Are they maybe keeping the seat warm for Maitlis/Sopel or even Matthew Wright who seemed to hint his next stint being in the Spring.

I’d personally like to see the back of Natasha Devon who I feel talks rubbish but I guess the Saturday 7pm is kinda inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

I wonder how those swivel eyed loons on the DS LBC thread, are reacting to the news of Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel moving to LBC.

No doubt they'll be calling Emily and Jon, right wing nutcases.
They are busy comparing Wordle scores, making up fantasy schedules, imagining Nick Ferrari as Met Commissioner or a Magistrate & patronising occy or anyone else who doesn't share their obsessive viewpoint(s).
😁

I find Shelagh to be quite depressing. I tried to listen yesterday but it’s all so miserable. She covers some worthy subjects I guess and she’s not as smug as James but but between the two of them you’d think that we lived in the worst, most problematic, awful country in the world.

You're right. I find I can listen to either or. I can't do both.

Interesting piece in today's Telegraph about Emily Maitliss. They seem to think the BBC aren't sorry to see the back of her. It makes you wonder if she jumped or was she pushed. Sorry -it's behind a paywall if you aren't a subscriber:

I saw several suggestions on social media that she had been pushed out by the BBC. But it is also a bit of a coup for Global.

It does marginalise James though because she will be playing to the same market and is a much bigger fish in the media world.

Sad to hear that ex-tabloid editor, David Banks has died. I'm sure Nick Ferrari will do a heartfelt tribute to him. They were good friends and it was Banksie who introduced Nick to LBC. I remember, back in the late 90s (?) DB did a weekend breakfast show and he used to have Nick on as a guest. They were so good together that Nick was hired and the show was called the Big Boys' Breakfast. They were let go when LBC changed hands and took it over to Talk Radio as a daily show. It was hilarious, with their producer Mark Dolan contributing comedy calls. Who can forget 'Mrs Mandelson', who was so proud of her son, Peter. Genuine radio gold.

I heard Jon Sopel was shuffled-off to Washington because he was a nightmare to deal with, both in terms of work-colleagues and bosses. Some of these broadcasters as we can all well imagine have massive ego's and obviously can get pretty big for their boots. As for Emily, I imagine she is the same way. She sure does love herself. I can't see it myself, I find her pretty ordinary. I remember seeing her on one of the talkshows, J. Ross maybe, fawning all over some Hollywood star. It was quite cringeworthy.

Sopel is getting 300k and Emily a bit more, 320k. Good for them I suppose. I won't be listening.

If they were both staff and I’m sure they were, especially Sopel, then they probably got a very nice redundancy payoff too,

Sopel is an odd choice I think. especially if that is his pay. I am not sure what he offers that LBC does not already have? He will sneer at the government but LBC have several who do that already. Also most will have not heard of him.

At least more people will have heard of Emily Maitlis. The problem for LBC is that the media is full of left-leaning Brexit haters.

It will be an issue for James O'Brien and I do not just mean that Emily will be a reminder of his failure at BBC Newsnight. These 2 will be treading on he considers to be his turf.

Are they considered 'Left-leaning' then? I always got the impression Emily loved money, and expensive frocks, and rubbing-shoulders with rich and powerful men (mostly bankers when she worked in Hong Kong back in the day). As for Sopel, I have no idea of his political leanings. I always got the impression he loathed Trump, but so do most of the media (which is ironic as Trump is a godsend for them in reality). They both strike me just interested in themselves rather than any political philosophy. As for O'Brien, personally I think most of his schtick is pretend, making-out he hates Tories all day every day engratiates him with a certain demographic and makes him loathed by another ... he kinda gets off on being loathed I think.

Emily and James seem very much cut from the same cloth to me. I am so confused about politics generally but it seems to be perfectly possible now to be extremely wealthy and privileged with your nice frocks and lovely house in a very smart part of London and also “left-leaning” meaning very woke, hating Tories, hating Brexit, despising working class people. It is the polar opposite of what Labour was really all about. Anyway I’m not excited about Emily on LBC and won’t be listening.
