Enjoyed episode 7. Highlight for me was Aemond’s dragon joyride (until it all ended horribly)

Alicent is becoming a formidable foe for Rhaenyra, especially as her dad is back as Hand of the King and she has that creepy Larys as an ally. However Rhaenyra now has Daemon as a husband which makes her doubly dangerous. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Not loving the time jumps. Hope there’s not too much more of them.

I guess I might be in the minority liking how they are doing the time jumps. I think they are doing the best they can with showing key moments in the years leading up to the war without adding too much filler that will slow down the action. I do think the show would get complaints about very little happening if they spent more time fleshing out relationships with characters who end up being long dead before the war starts. Those characters are footnotes in history, but we just needed to know who they were.
If they had started the show around the start of the war, it would be so hard for audience to understand everyone’s previous marriages, interactions and who has what children, so I think the times jumps are the best compromise to explain without dwelling too long on set-up.

A little BTS moment to brighten up the thread. 😂

So will Laenor come back at some point or is he gone for good? They all think he's dead, right?
I don’t think he will, if they’re planning on staying faithful to the story. Then again who knows? He was supposed to die, him being alive and running away was a deviation from the book.

It’ll be interesting to know if Rhaenyra and Daemon have any intention of letting Laenor’s parents in on the secret. How awful to leave them grieving for two children when one is actually still alive and well.

How long does the war go on for to make this rushed set up worth it?! I’m really enjoying it but it does seem like it would have made more sense to pace it out a little bit. I haven’t read the book though so I don’t know 🫣
About two years. A lot does happen throughout the course of the war and I’m assuming the pacing will have slowed significantly (no more time jumps). We’ll probably get another couple of seasons of the actual dance of the dragons, but not sure if they’ll continue on with other plots leading up to the Mad King/Robert’s Rebellion. There are a lot of other Targaryen conflicts that follow the dance like the Blackfyre Rebellions, so there’s room for more if they chose to expand the series beyond the current characters.

I’ve read the book before and am currently listening to it on audiobook to refresh my memory. It’s very textbook-like, the way it’s written. It’s “written” by an archmaester Gyldayn and based on accounts from different sources, so has an unreliable narrative.

Subtitles have been patchy for me on NowTV too - they were available yesterday but hadn't been there for the past two weeks. It is an accessibility guidelines breach. They can get fined over it

I actually quite liked the most recent episode. A lot happened but I was just so bored of everything skipping all over the place. daemon didnt wait around though, bloody hell :/

I find subtitles on NowTV to be quite rubbish in general. Sometimes they are really inaccurate and sometimes whole lines can be skipped.

Episode 7 was the best one so far.
Aemond claiming the enormous dragon and then the fight between the kids has set it all up so well.

Loved Laenor escaping at the end too.

Daemon was right. If Viserys had allowed him to marry Rhanaeyra at the beginning then all of the ensuing fallout would have been avoided.
