I struggled with who everyone was before the time jump… after, I’ve no hope! Was damons wife the little girl who was offered to the king, originally? In the time jump they looked the same age if it was meant to be her. Why did ser Christon look no different?!
I recognise the actress who now plays Alicent, what has she been in before?
Yes she is. Her brother is the husband of Rhanaerya. Alicent is played by Olivia Cooke...she was in Bates Motel

Loved this episode. The dragon-riding scene, the chemistry between Rhaenyra and Daemon (though I did cringe when she called him “Uncle” after their beach romp). The growing animosity between the children from both factions - RIP Aemond’s eye 👁️ - and that twist at the end (in the book Laenor is killed). I also loved the scene where Alicent attacked Rhaenyra, her shame afterwards and how Otto reels her back in. Ser Incelot smirking during the questioning of Jace and Luke’s legitimacy made me want to punch something even if he is hot.

Another great episode but the pacing is so off for me. I can't form a connection with any character because things are moving so fast.
There’s another time jump next week. Should be the final one I’d imagine, to age up the children for their parts in the war. 👀

It seems season one is a prologue to the actual dance of the dragons/civil war which really kicks off after King Viserys dies. Hopefully the pacing slows down considerably for that. 😬

I really enjoyed this episode loved all of the Rhaenyra and Daemon scenes I spent 8 series hating Jamie and Cerise in Game of Thrones only to be shipping these two! 🙈
I loved what they did with Laenor and I loved the lines Rhaenyra "I do love Laenor" Daemon "then set him free" and the whole metaphor that his family use the sea as an escape.
I am still finding the pacing and time jumps a issue. While I am team blacks all the way I'm loving Aemond him taking Vaghar and losing an eye was brilliant 👏 👌

I did find the lighting a massive issue especially in the Vaghar scenes

I loved when Rhaenyra told Alicent: “Now they see you as you are.”

The title of Ep. 8 is The Lord of The Tides which I think will be focused on who gets Driftmark if Corlys dies (it’s mentioned he is gravely injured in the preview). I think his brother Vaemond Valaryon will be after that honour because he knows that Rhaenyra’s sons are bastards and they won’t let Daemon’s girls succeed (I’m with Princess Rhaenys, why can’t the girls have Driftmark?).

Also judging by the fact that Otto is keeping the throne warm in the episode preview, I’m predicting an episode 9 death for King V.

Episode 9 will be titled “The Green Council” and in Game of Thrones fashion, episode 9 has always been the flagship episode of a season, building momentum for the finale. 👀

Last night's episode felt really rushed. Daemon has his wife's funeral, reunites with Rhaenyra, has sex with her, then marries her and arranges the 'death' of her former husband. In an hour. 😂
We’re supposed to suspend our disbelief and think of that hour as a passing of time; Rhaenyra and Daemon were wed on Dragonstone so some time has passed between then and the funeral and Laenor’s “death”. It is very fast paced but all the finer details don’t really matter in this story, unlike Game of Thrones which has many different POV characters and side plots. They’re just paving the way for Season 2.

I agree about the pacing. The series started off a bit pedestrian and now it is all over the place and doesn’t feel right. It is possible to do atmospheric lighting and still show us what is happening. Virtually a black screen does not do it for me. The mumbled dialogue is annoying too. I had to rewind several times because I missed what was said. They age some characters whilst others look the same? Characters come and go too quickly before you get a chance to care (or not) about them. All of the things that GOT did so well, this show rushes to the point of near incomprehension. Hopefully from the next time jump, when the children are older, it will settle down more and the pacing will me more natural and less erratic.

I’ve seen a lot of people comment on the lighting but I didn’t have an issue with it personally. I do always have subtitles on because I usually miss what’s being said if I don’t, and I tend to watch in the evenings with the lights down low or off completely. I found there was a similar issue in GoT with the lighting in some episodes, especially The Long Night.
