Horror films

I'm obviously a big fan of the Halloween franchise, but my all-time favourite horror is Dead End from 2003. I have mentioned it here before. I found it in the ex-rental bin in Blockbuster. It is very atmospheric but also a few funny moments along the way.
I also love dead end, it actually is one of the few films that’s scared me which is surprising. I also love the film identity…again one of the few that’s scared me.
I still, even though I know what happens get scared in the laundry room scene

Another one I usually watch around Halloween that still makes me jump is thirteen ghosts too

Just watched a horror movie recently Speak no evil. Very disturbing to watch not really my thing, I prefer more haunting based movies.
Speak No Evil is very marmite, I liked the concept but a lot of people took it at face value and dismissed it as stupid.

Unfortunately it's getting a hollywood remake, which will further dilute the premise as I think a major part of that is being guests in a foriegn country.

We can be friends! It is rare to find someone else who has seen Dead End. I think it was released without much of a fan fair so most people missed it. It is one you don't really see on TV either.

The original Woman in Black is fantastic as well. I recently got it on Blu Ray, it so much better than the Daniel Radcliffe one. I try and catch the stage play when it tours nearby. Can't beat it for a good scare.

I rewatched The Nun last night. It had been a while since I watched it and wanted to refresh my memory before watching The Nun 2.

It gets a bit of a bad rap but I think it's good. My only thoughts last night was that Father Burke was as useless as a chocolate teapot. Poor old Sister Irene would have been better on her own with Frenchie. 🤣

For anyone interested, this is what the actress looks like who plays Valak.

Evil Dead Rise is on Netflix, I am watching it now. I saw a lot of hype when it was released and gushing reviews but as you can tell as I type this during the finale, I didn't find it more than a 5/10.

Great practical effects, lashings of gore, the lead baddie is great but it is just meh. I think the tone is off slightly and there were some ideas that were done because they looked cool rather than adding to the film.

If you want a good old fashioned chiller of a horror film, may I recommend The Changeling. It was made in 1980, with George C Scott in the lead role. I had not seen the film in years, but it was recently shown on the freeview channel Talking Pictures. Highly recommended.

The Changeling is one of my favourite horror movies. Still holds up today though I suspect it's long overdue a proper remake.

I hope not, they will add CGI that will overwhelm everything. They will ramp up the gore, and they will probably use a muted colour palete. Basically they will do everything that I hate, about modern films and TV shows.

I hope not too. Its simplicity is what makes it so good. One of those films that relies on the actors and not a load of effects.

I'm just surprised it hasn't had one yet.

It's like the 1963 version of The Haunting. Just relies on the actors and is brilliant.

There is a 50th Anniversary screening of The Exorcist on tonight at my local cinema. I wish they would advertise these things more because I would have gone to see that if I didn't have plans already. It seems to be nationwide, so if any fellow horror fans are stuck for something to do this evening there is that!

I can't wait for the new one and I'm going to try and get in to see Saw X this week as well. Let the spooky season begin!
