Horror films

I’m trying to watch a horror movie a day for October- started with Evil Dead Rise yesterday. The
cheese grater scene 😬😬😬

Later in the month I’m away for a few days- if anyone has recommendations for ones that are Netflix, prime or Disney + that I could download would appreciate it 😊
I am also doing this!

I did The Nun last night and Evil Dead (2013) today.

Yesterday's film was Saw 2, I vaguely remember seeing it before as I knew the twist. I don't think it aged particularly well.

Today it is the Argento Cut of Dawn of the Dead, which is a version that cuts out all the humour and satirical scenes in favour of a pure horror.

I can't remember if I have asked this before, but has anyone seen Cube? It is a great film.

"Six complete strangers with widely varying personalities are involuntarily placed in an endless maze containing deadly traps." it came out in 1997 so pre-Saw but quite similar. It is well worth a look.

Did you watch the making of thing on BBC4 that was on prior to the film? The Fear Of God: Twenty-Five Years Of The Exorcist.

William 'Billy' Friedkin sounds like he was a nutcase. 🤣

That is a very good documentary. The DVD I have comes with a heavily edited version of it. It wasn't until I got the Blu Ray that I saw the entire programme. I do agree that Friedkin went a bit far. Firing guns to get a startled reaction, slapping the priest, nearly breaking Ellen Burstyn's back. I think I would pass working with him!

I have probably said this before, I saw The Exorcist done on stage about five/six years ago. It was phenomenal. They did it all, the head spin, the sick, the spider walk. I did regret afterwards taking my Dad with me... I don't think he enjoyed it as much as I did, he was white as a ghost by the time we got to the interval.

Wow I'd love to see the stage version!

I love The Exrocist 3 too. Apparently it is considered an unofficial trilogy of sorts, The Exorcist, The Exorcist 3 and The Ninth Configuration. I haven't seen the latter.

Watched The Conjuring 3 last night, originally saw it in the cinema, first film I went to see post-covid. Not as strong as the first but I prefer it to the second.

I ordered the new 4K special edition of Sleepy Hollow which arrived today so that might be tonight's offering.

I have seen a lot of theatre shows over the years and hand on heart The Exorcist was one of the best I have ever seen. The bedroom was in the centre of the stage but it would move up and down. The upper half was the scenes in Iraq and below was the living room of the house, but all the time, even when the action wasn't focused on the bedroom, Regan was always on stage. I don't know how they managed it but you could see the actor's breath within the bedroom. Solid 10/10 for the entire show.

I think horror works really well on the stage. The Woman in Black is a classic, I'm desperate to see 2:22 A Ghost Story as well, it is touring nearby early next year so I will be there.

Another film I will suggest is Dark Remains from 2005. It is one of those low budget horror films, and another one that I picked up from Blockbuster back in the day. It isn't the best but good God it has an absolutely lethal jump scare in it that when I first saw it I actually felt sick.

If you want a good old fashioned chiller of a horror film, may I recommend The Changeling. It was made in 1980, with George C Scott in the lead role. I had not seen the film in years, but it was recently shown on the freeview channel Talking Pictures. Highly recommended.
The Changeling is a classic film.
Very atmospheric and deals with the theme of grief and loss beautifully.
I think it's one of George C Scott's best roles.

The Exorcist III
Is a great film.
I haven't watched it for a while, so that might be my Halloween movie sorted!
I'm going to watch Exorcist Believer this week.
Obviously it won't be a patch on the original as for me- that bar is too high and with it being a cert 15, I imagine it'll be diluted.
More like "You're Mother cooks socks in hell" 😁

Watched three I haven't seen before the last few days:

Crimes of the Future - glad I waited for this one on streaming, I feel like it didn't even deliver on it's main concept or premise which is a shame as there is an interesting story lurking in the script.

From Beyond - a classic 80's offering and I can see why, nothing groundbreaking these days but also doesn't mess about, straight into the horror which I didn't mind.

Ghosts of War - I liked the concept of this but it never really got there, I think in the end there were too many ideas in the script and someone should have stepped in and trimmed it back. The opening scene immediately annoyed me though :ROFLMAO:

a group of Allied soldiers asleep outside in Nazi occupied France and no-one is on watch!

Few more from the last few days:

Paranormal Activity 2 & 3: rewatch of course but I do like this series despite coming to it long after the fact. If you can suspend disbelief about the camera excuses they can be quite scary, jump scares of course. I think 4 might be stronger than 3 for creepy factor, though the creepy kid in 3 does an excellent job. 2 is a sequel that is as strong as the original.

Deliver us from Evil: this was ok, I didn't expect much but it's worth a go for a different take on the exorcism/possession trope which I fancied after hearing how terrible the new Exorcist is supposed to be. Supposedly based on a true story, but that snippet made me laugh.

I See You: I put this one off for ages, the trailer and promo images never did it for me. Then I put it on and realise Helen Hunt is in it, which is a surprise. That gave me hope this would be a decent film given her acting pedigree and it was. Not quite what I expected but I'd definitely watch it again.

I cannot find the original Friday the 13th on anywhere to stream. Watching Sinister 2 right now as only watched the first recently
