Holidays #4 2024 onwards

We did Phuket and Khao Lak ❤
---

Have you planned it to the Nth degree or will you just go with the flow? We are very much go with the flow type holiday makers but I feel that might not work in NYC xx
Agree with you about NYC I think planning is the key ... we were due to go a couple of years ago for my 60th unfortunately we had to cancel as my husband was in hospital with a serious illness for 5 weeks .. anyhow we will go again , love it even though I haven't been for many years..

Thailand is one of my favourite countries . Khao Lak does interest me , I may go there next year, did you do a package there? I have been to Thailand 17 times and usually do DIY , but I saw that TUI are doing packages to Khao Lak, is there a particular hotel/area that you would recommend please ?

I'm thinking of booking an airport lounge as I normally have a meal before a flight anyway so the cost wouldn't be much different. Has anyone been the the escape lounges in Manchester airport? I saw someone say there was no hot food when they went early morning and my flight will be early however they say breakfast is served from 4am
Book the 1901/2/3 lounges. Much better! The escape lounges are always full of 6am beer chuggers!

I’m going to Singapore for Christmas this year. Does anyone have any tips or must visits?

For the people who have been to Phuket have you done any boat trips/island hopping? I'd like to do some but may only get to do one which would you recommend?

Also a Phuket cooking class recommendation? We did one in Bangkok and loved it so want to do another

Singapore is amazing
I haven’t been there for years but definitely visit the Long bar for a Singapore sling , also little india and Chinatown were great

Ants recommendations for a staycation in the UK?

It would be October so not guaranteed with the weather but somewhere with a covered hot tub would be good.

I'm thinking a treehouse/cabin with maybe a little village/beach to walk to. Anywhere in the UK although somewhere south of York would be ideal!.

Try Canopy and Stars.

Love Singapore, so clean and safe. For eating I’d recommend staying away from the waterfront restaurants where they rip you off. The hawker centres serve fantastic fresh local food at a fraction of the price. And as per LouSV’s recommendations little India and Chinatown are great. The botanical gardens are fabulous and a trip to Sentosa island is a good day out; you get a cable car over which is fun.
A few days is plenty so if you’re over that way I’d recommend trying to get to Thailand or Malaysia or Vietnam too- if you have the time.

Anyone been to Lake Como/ Lake Garda in Italy and can recommend things to do
Lake garda was a dream.
We stayed in Garda town which was very peaceful and ferried over to other parts.

Sirmione is a must. You can swim In very clear water here.
You can also visit malcesine and take the cable car up.
We also went to limone sul garda which was beautiful.

@Jas28 one tip from a mistake we made in Lake Garda - make sure you budget for the cost of using the ferry as we were on a limited daily budget and they are expensive! We went in September and only a couple of days were sunbathing weather so we ended up travelling around more than first planned so the boat tickets ate into our budget.

Would echo Tommyb re Limone and Malcesine. Also, make sure you have some Bardolino rosé! It’s soooo good!

Anyone have any advice on Switzerland? What time of year to go? Avoiding rain (not worried if cold) and large crowds.

Places to see? Thinking of travel around a bit.

After a little bit of sun for a few days end of October half term, any recommendations resorts not too far from airports beach, little town & restaurants short flights. We ideally need to go from bournemouth/Bristol so probably Spain. Majorca has been done this year already… Benidorm but not the max part? Help

Absolutely love khao lak, we are going back in January and staying int he Chong fah resort again. Just the most amazing little place!

I want to go somewhere special for my 30th birthday it's not until 2026 but I'm just doing research to see how much I'll need to save. I'm also not very inspired for travel at the moment as I've been to the top places I wanted to go recently and some of the places I have left wanting to go to I won't want to go for my birthday or solo.
I'll be going solo, I'm thinking of the Maldives or the Galapagos Islands, probably leaning towards the Maldives though.. Anyone been to both or one what did you think? I really want to swim with sting rays.
I can go for 16 days so probably 14 nights with flights although depending on the timings of the flights possibly 16 nights. I work nights so if I got afternoon flights the day I finished my shift I could leave the same day.
I'm not stuck on these destinations so if anyone has any other suggestions. I like beachy vibes, somewhere I can chill as well as do activities, I don't mind staying in hostels, somewhere safe for solo female, would do a tour with a company but also would do it alone, wildlife. Don't really want to go anywhere in Europe.
Places I've been so don't want to go back/places I've excluded due to other reasons:
- Thailand, Philippines, Bali - the kinds of holiday I like the best
- Jordan - amazing but it was just too much and not enough relaxing
- Costa Rica - if I ever end up going I'd go with a friend

Also if I do decide on a tour some companies already have their tours for 2026 out so it would be good to be able to book super early to spread the payment out more

Faro in Portugal would fit the bill. We were really surprised at how lovely it was.
We went around mid October a few years ago and the weather was really pleasant. Needed a jacket for the evening but lovely during the day.
Loads of restaurants lovely old town and harbour.

Airport taxi was really reasonable from memory, around 9 euros, but there are buses that go from outside the terminal that were a few euro.

Spending 16 nights in the Maldives is a long time, you could look to combine Sri Lanka in the same trip?

Anyone been to Lake Como/ Lake Garda in Italy and can recommend things to do

Lake Como is my favourite place on earth. I actually think it's a lot prettier than Garda. There's endless gorgeous lakeside villages you can explore and stop for a coffee as you please. Beautiful botanical gardens (the one in Bellagio is stunning!). If you want more of a small city you can go to Como itself which has a lovely small city vibe. You can also get the bus over to Lake Lugano in Switzerland from Menaggio which is also beautiful and you can get the fenicular up to Mount Bre from Lugano which has ridiculous views. I could go there every year and never get bored.
