Has anyone been to Sharm El Sheik? Considering this for family holiday
I have never been all inclusive before, has anyone been and can review food?

I have been a couple of times.

The larger hotels will have more choice in terms of food. It's a muslim country, so no pork, so it is beef/turkey sausages/bacon/ham, so bear this in mind if you have fussy eaters. Trip advisor reviews and pictures will help you.

Staff are certainly friendlier if you tip, which annoys me. I prefer to tip at the end if a holiday for good service received, but in Egypt you basically need to buy good service up front.

My biggest gripe with Sharm is the airport. It's a pain in the arse, the staff are rude and on a power trip, they know you want to get home and absolutely delight in holding you up for whatever reason. Also make sure you're not a gram over weight on your bags, as they are very strict. There are multiple security checks, one before you enter the airport, the usual bag checks and then they pull people for random bag searches before you can enter the departure gate area.

We were there in April and it has put me off going back, but I have colleagues who go twice a year 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you that was a really helpful response

I'm thinking of booking an airport lounge as I normally have a meal before a flight anyway so the cost wouldn't be much different. Has anyone been the the escape lounges in Manchester airport? I saw someone say there was no hot food when they went early morning and my flight will be early however they say breakfast is served from 4am

I haven't flown from Manchester but regularly use the lounge at Stansted and have used different lounges at Gatwick. All have served hot food, normally buffet style.

Trip advisor will give you a good idea of what to expect.

My finger slipped and I booked a couple of days in Venice, oops :m What's the best way to get to Venice from the airport? Also any recommendations for a good hotel. Mid to more expensive maybe. But I'd prefer to spend less

Btw this is for April 2025

Anyone recommend a destination for February-match time? That will be hot so 2 kids 4 and 1 can go in these or pool? Obviously would prefer short flights as possible but I know that might not be do able at that time of year so willing to suck it up and go longer haul if needed! 🩷

Canaries your best bit for that time to avoid long haul

Water taxis/bus. Water taxi v expensive, as a solo travellers i coukdnt justify it, water bus, cheap and cheerful.

Venice is fab, have a great time!

There's also a bus (road) from the airport to the train station, you can then pick up a vaporetto. You can buy tickets at the airport. I have Venice envy. We stayed at the Pensione Accademia, which was lovely.

Canaries are the shortest you will probably get that are warmish.

Slightly further that will be warmer, Egypt, Morocco and my fave of the bunch Cape Verde.

What is cape Verde like? Is there much stuff to do there?
It's warm, humid, dessert like terrain.

There are excursions, like quad bikes and jeep tours, and it is good for water sports as it is on the Atlantic so quite windy.

If you want guaranteed sun in Feb that's hotter than the Canaries but not as far as the Caribbean or Asia it's your best bet.

Thanks!!! Is it windy all the time there?

Nope! But when there is a breeze it is very welcome! It is pretty flat, so the hotels break the wind quite a lot, but the sea obviously doesn't have the same barriers, which makes it good for windsurfing etc.

Oooh I love a good holiday chat! We did Thailand in April, it was amazing! Looking at New York at the moment for next new year! We missed out the first time we booked due to Covid and now we can’t go without the kids so it’s doubled in price! I’m so excited!!

We're going to NYC in January but it feels ages away!! I have to bide my time so I don't keep banging on about it to my partner 😂

Have you planned it to the Nth degree or will you just go with the flow? We are very much go with the flow type holiday makers but I feel that might not work in NYC xx

I’ve been to NYC twice, once in summer and once in autumn.

I feel that making a list of things you want to see is a definite must and then working out where all of things are in relation to each other is helpful.

NYC is quite big and it’s easier to focus on things in different locations rather than going up and down and back and forth.

I also found it useful to prebook the observation decks to ensure that I got the ones I wanted at the times I wanted.

plus checking opening/closing times of things is also very helpful.

I have had a very loose plan both times I’ve visited and that’s worked for me. Nothing set in stone as such, just a guide so that we didn’t miss anything.

It's an odd one because I've been 7 or 8 times but it's his first trip so things I wouldn't bother with are woohoo to him. Even though I've seen most things I'll plan like it's my first time.

I created a Google maps NYC page and you can add everything you want to see, your hotel etc and it drops it onto the map so you'll be able to plan a block of time in a certain area. I will say dont overplan - know what you fancy that day & leave time to just enjoy it. I am still throwing around how much money to take though.
