Holidays #4 2024 onwards

Off to Cape Verde (again) on Monday. Can't wait ☀
Would love to know more about Cape Verde 😀
Anyone have recommendations for best places to stay/eat and drink?
Would be two of us going, looking to chill mainly!
Is the scenery nice? People, etc?
Grateful for any tips/suggestions 😊

Boa Vista and Sal are the main tourist islands. Sal being the more built up and bigger the two. It's very unspoilt with not a lot to do outside the hotels other than keep safaris and quad biking. Very chilled vibe. I loved it but it's not for everyone.

I would recommend Sal over Boa Vista.

Santa Maria is the main town. Riu Palace Santa Maria is lovely. We're staying at a different hotel this time, so will report back once back.

The sea is often orange or red flag, so mot create if you're a big fan of the sea.

There isn't a lot there to be fair. It's still largely undeveloped. There is an Irish bar that people like, but we tend to stay in the hotel except for going for walks along the beach etc.

The locals are lovely and very friendly. It is close to Senegal and you do get people try their luck, especially if you are obviously a tourist like me 🙃 (blonde).

However it has year round sunshine, rarely rains, 6 hour flight time, we love it!

Thank you! Sounds like another one to add to my list 😝

How funny, I actually recommend BV over Sal! Different strokes and all that. BV tends to have more green and yellow flags if you stay on the North West of the island and sea is calmest in October.

Go to Barcelona soon. I've asked for some recommendations before but don't think I asked for food recommendations. Also has anyone done a tower at the sagrada familia and was it worth it? Probably just done the one if you have but if anyone has recommendations on which tower is better? Anything in Barcelona you wouldn't recommend doing either

Flying to Dublin a bit later. Is Howth worth visiting to get out of the city for a bit?
Enjoy 😊 if the weather is decent Howth is a lovely day trip. Take the DART out and walk up the Head along the cliff path. The Abbey Tavern is lovely for a more traditional vibe, but the restaurants along the quay are great for local seafood x

Haven’t been for a while but the last time we visited I thought El Nacional’s tapas auction was really fun. They just shout the names of the dishes when they come out of the kitchen and you raise your hand if you want one 🤣 and pay at the end.

Would anyone recommend Krakow? We’re considering going mid-October (if I can get my leave approved) and we’re able to get it pretty cheap too (I was actually shocked at how cheap).

If we go, is there anything that anyone would recommend we definitely do/places to see/places to eat x

Yes. Admittedly we went at Christmas and it was magical, but I'm sure it's also beautiful in Autumn. We did a self-guided tour of the Jewish quarter - you can still see parts of the old ghetto walls. If it's something you want to see, Auschwitz is a day trip you could take. There is also a salt mine thing that is day trip material.

Im going in December - have Auschwitz booked and will likely do the salt mines and wander around tge Christmas markets. Any tips for me?

I loved krakow, although we went in July but I loved to go again around Christmas time. Fabulous city.

We stayed in hotel saski just off the main square and couldn’t fault it, it was stunning. Such a good location too.

Recommend pimiento Argentino If you like a good steak restaurant, it was a little pricey but easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and that’s a bold statement to make. But after 4//5 days we just really fancied some proper food.

The only thing I wasn’t fussed about krakow was the horses for the tours in the main square, I’m sure they’re really well cared for but as I said, we went in July and it was very hot. Some horses were stood there for hours in the heat and it was quite sad.

have a great time though, fab city x

Krakow is great, we really enjoyed it. Also recommend Pimiento - was a real treat.

Other highlights - Stara Zajezdnia Krakow - is a beer hall in a historic tram shed, bit quirky but fun. St Mary's Basilica is beautiful, well worth a visit. The Wawel Castle was good too.

Also recommend a day trip to Auschwitz, we did one that combined it with a trip to the salt mines on the way back to the city. It was a long day, but really interesting and the salt mines were really amazing.

Food and drink (apart from Pimiento) was literally so cheap, but actually nice, and accommodation was super cheap too. We were there for 4 nights I think and really didnt spend much at all. I'd love to go back in the summer as we went in December so would be nice to explore more in daylight ha.

Have a long weekend to Copenhagen book for early February. Have seen all the usual recs online but wondering if anyone here has been and what is an absolute must see. Also looking for recs for bars/restaurants/cafes. Staying in the Vesterbro area not far from the Central Train Station
Also, has anyone purchased the Copenhagen Card and is it worth it?

Just booked an easyjet holiday to the canaries for November for a bit of winter sun.

we went to Tenerife in November a couple of years ago at the same time and had glorious weather.
got a bargain.
We are off to the algarve on Monday for a week.
booked a fabulous apartment close to the beach.
Can’t wait!

I really like Copenhagen. It has a metro and is super easy to get around.

However I went in Feb too and it was absolutely freezing. I've never known anything like it.

Did you know Tivoli gardens is shut that time of year? We did the round tower, the zoo and various kids playgrounds and play centres as we had our kids with us so probably not what you are after :ROFLMAO:
