Holidays #4 2024 onwards

1
Slightly off topic but as seasoned travellers thought you might be able to help!

We are going away in just over 2 weeks. The hotel we are going to only uses paper straws for cocktails etc which is fine by me. We have folding reusable straws which we were going to take with us as a lot of the reviews suggest the straws are very thin so bring your own of you have space.

Does anyone know of dish washing soap sheets or similar we could pack to wash them out? Normally they come home after a day out and go in the dishwasher, but we will be away for 2 weeks so they will need a wash! Amazon is only brining up hand soap or soap dishes, neither of which are what I want 🤦🏼‍♀️

Do they have to be sheets?
Could you decant some liquid washing up liquid into a travel size bottle?

I bought a metal straw a while back which came with a really thing brush with a tiny sort of brilli pad like brush on it so it can get into the straw. I am really sorry I don't know what it is called, I hope I'm explaining it right lol. You could maybe get one of those on amazon and then just use some water and washing up liquid with it maybe?

Yeh it has a skinny brush thing. I guess i wanted to avoid more liquids but decanting normal washing up liquid would be easier 🤦🏼‍♀️

We take insulated water bottles with us too so they need a good scrub.

Will just pack a small bit of fairy and a sponge. Cheers guys.

I’m thinking of doing either Crete or Skiathos in 2025/26 🇬🇷

I’m a beach person so would love a nice, sandy one but in a quieter resort (I’m too old and boring for the club scene). I like a mooch about the old town and some nice food and wine 🍷

I don’t know much about the Greek islands so any advice would be great. I’ve googled plenty of places and read that apparently the west side of Crete would suit best but I still don’t feel any the wiser 🫠

I have no experience of either, but my in laws go to Skiathos every year for 2 weeks and they absolutely love it.

I'm going to Northern Ireland next year (from England) doe drugs mean I won't need to take my passport? Only as by the time I go it'll have less than 6 months validity. I probably won't go anywhere else between then and it running out so I'd like to wait as long as possible before getting a new one

Not sure what you mean with the “doe drugs” but no, you don’t need a passport for travelling between England and NI, but it’s advisable to carry ID, especially if you’re checking in bags.

The six month rule is irrelevant in this situation.

Oops 😂 I meant does 'that mean', I won't be doing drugs 😅. Okay thanks I'll probably take my passport anyway but at least it won't matter about the time left on it

I was looking at packaged holidays next year for myself and soon to be 2 year old… the prices for my 2 year is the same as me? Are there any tricks that I am missing to get the cost down? I know I’m now paying for a seat on the plane for him etc. but I didn’t expect it to be so expensive. I’ve had the luxury of travelling with him for free this year so never paid any attention to the prices for 2+ I guess I thought it would be half of adult 😅

I’m going to Sri Lanka in January has anyone been at that time of year? Not sure what kind of clothes to bring.

I have 4 booked for 2025 also, I'd love to know how I'm getting the annual leave for them all but will cross that bridge when it comes to it 😂
Realised I forgot about one 😂 again another short one though 4 breaks of 2 nights, 1 break if just over 2 weeks and an either 4/5/6 day break. The last depends on flights we booked accommodation for 5 nights but I think the flights are only available for 4/6 night stays. I'm lucky on how my shifts fall I still have 5 days left and that includes 3 days I've booked that I could cancel if I wanted to as I just booked a full week for no reason before a concert.
Tempted to book the last days off to try and prevent me booking anything else, although I'd probably just annoy my boss and ask to change my holidays 😅.
I need to pay off my credit card though, so no more!

As you say after the age of 2, kids are taking up a seat, so it’s irrelevant what age they are!
Why not look for a free child place?
There seems to be a lot of them if you book early enough.
Also, you presumably won’t be going in school holidays, so prices will be cheaper.

Also if you're the only adult there is single supplement on the room, unless it is a single room. So it's basically the same as two adults.
