Just as an aside ... I was in the US last week and watched the first episode of American Song Contest. It's done by the people who do Eurovision and was meant to be all the US States and Territories competing against each other with original songs. Sound familiar? ;) I watched out of curiosity.

It was absolutely shocking and not in an ironic way either. When it got to a cowboy from Wyoming rapping about his new boots in a song called "New Boots Goofin' ... I bailed. 😱
I watched some of the clips, absolutely awful, songs were junk for the most part, there was no fun factor. The cowboy was entertaining at least. Can't see it being recommissioned for a second series unless ratings pick up massively.

I think if they manage to get people to tune in for the final it will work out in their favour massively. At the moment it’s just a glorified singing show. Part of the appeal for Eurovision is getting to see the finals on the night, less people seem to watch the semis and even less follow the individual national selections which is basically what America is more or less doing

THE UK IS FOURTH FAVOURITE TO WIN!!!!! Can someone explain how? We get hardly any points every year, but the bookies rarely get it wrong. I take it the song is well liked across the continent.
I think it's a combination of: charismatic performer, strong voice, song (personally it's not my thing but I can see its appeal and know people who like it), and also the novelty factor of "wow the UK have a good entry for once".

The odds could move a lot when we see snippets of the rehearsals before the contest. Still lots of unknowns.

Greece is high in the odds, personally the song does nothing for me although the singer has a nice voice.

On the topic of rehearsals, I read somewhere that first rehearsals will apparently remain private?

EBU (I assume they're the ones making these decisions and the statement is true) seems to have been shaking some stuff up. There's been a lot of criticisms from the press passes not being given to certain fansites/their people in favour of actual press agencies instead

Hmmm, I'm a cynic, I can't see us doing well in the panel of judges bit of the votes which always have country bias in them, despite the Eurovision organisers trying to stamp it out.
The ballad field is also pretty crowded this year (if you call Space Man a ballad)? There's a number of strong male and female solo ballads tipped to do well, and some of them will underperform vs expectations.

In the upbeat space you have Ukraine, Spain and Norway as the frontrunners.

I really have no idea if Space Man will do well or flop.

I love watching Eurovision every year. I think the best one was last year and had the best songs! It's a shame Sweden didn't win though as I thought his song was brilliant. He did win the judges vote though. I don't like the new voting system. It's obvious Ukraine will win this year, even if the song isn't any good.

I try to not listen to anything before the night itself because I don't want to spoil it for myself but I did have to listen to the Rasmus' entry for Finland. A boyfriend from when I was at school was into their first album so it's nostalgia for me. Such an earworm for me.

I’m the same! I like a surprise on the night. And The Rasmus were my favourite when I was in year 8!

I had a thing for Lauri Ylönen when I was thirteen or something like that, back when In The Shadows came out. Thought he was dead sexy even though he had half a bird in his hair. I was pretty excited that they are representing Finland and the song is also okay, but why does he have feathers in his hair still?
Are these the same feathers? Have there been there all this time? Why do they think that is a good look? I've questions....

The Ukraine entry is everything I look for in a Eurovision song. Inspires the crazy interpretive dancer in me

Sam’s performance at Eurovision in Concert last night. He is undoubtedly one of the best all-round performers (vocals & stage presence)

It’s the first time I’ve ever looked forward to seeing the UK entry at the final! Can’t wait for it this year. I need some cheer and silliness. Still don’t like the new voting system though, I think it ruins it a bit.
